  3. First phase of tonights expected storms just passed through with some lightning (every 10 / 15 secs) , thunder and medium rainfall (2.4MM). I think this was the cell that started in the Channel Islands. Humdity up to 85% now with DP 16.6 DgC in a 19.5 DgC temperature.

Well I am still awaiting the official Eastbourne figures for June 2007 sunshine levels but I notice the Meto website quotes: 'The provisional total for the month is 156.6 hours, which is 84% of the 1961-1990 average. Dullest June since 1998.' The comment for January 2007 was: 'The final total for the month is 51.8 hours, which is 118% of the 1961-1990 average.' I would therefore conclude then that June was not generally duller than January, but in comparison to like months from previous years, June was a stinker with only North Scotland having anything near normal!

  17. Very dark clouds heralded an almighty clap of thunder and the most torrential rain I have seen for about 18 months. More thunder and rain has now set off all the car alarms and flooded the flat roofs that are common to this industiral estate in Burgess Hill Mid Sussex. Looks like more on the way, I'll check on the weather station at home later to see how much rain fell.
