  1. Yep. Snow here too and starting to settle. Quite moderate snow too.
  2. Precipitation bands coming in off the Irish Sea into Wales do seem to be stretching north. The one aproaching us right now has held together better than the ones before it. I'm not going to stay up tonight but I think we do now have a smidgeon of interest. If weather lovers in South Wales aren't leaping around with joy with all the sferics being picked up in the snow showers down there...then they don't deserve it!
  3. Just noticed that myself! Not going to last long but another 10 minutes of snow falling will look pretty! Have to say the Met Office forecast has been really good for here. Bits of light snow throughout the night. Looking like that's whats going to happen! Jealous of the thundery activity being reported from south Wales. The joys of being by the coast. Used to see a lot of thundersnow when i lived in Sunderland...it's amazing to witness!
  4. Well yes indeed! Loads of interest coming up. But I'll have to get back to you on that one becuse as you say...there is still doubt about things that far ahead.
  5. Nasty little cell off the Pembrokeshire coast kicking off lots of lightning! A really exciting evening for some. Meanwhile the latest band has almost reached the English border...but has weakened. That's the only thing heading our way right now.
  6. What few showers there are to our west are predictably being eaten by the Welsh mountains. Shame because the precipitation that just came through did change to all snow showing that it is now cold enough. However, some hefty stuff heading out of Ireland towards South Wales. Really looking good for those south of Worcester for later I reckon. We will need pictures tomorrow morning please!
  7. Indeed..Birmingham and the Black Country seem to be stuck in the middle this winter. Boxing Day snow went a little too far north and this one is progged (and is so far) to go a little too far south. At least this time the forecasts and warnings show that we could miss out...so it's not so bad. Something will get to us eventually! Maybe even tonight...you never know with events like this! We'll get the washout tomorrow night of course! Edit: A bit of light sleet starting to fall now as we graze the northern edge of the precipitation.
  8. I think the bulk of it was supposed to be south of the Midlands anyway with us getting a few showers? Don't think we'll go completely without though. Could use a shift north like the last event that took it away from us!
  9. Showers heading this way but looking very marginal! Been working over in West Brom today and have witnessed the same as everyone else. Rain with sleet and wet snow mixed in around lunchtime. Forecasts seem to be going to plan so far for this area and looking at the radar...on and off wintry showers throughout the evening and night as predicted looks like happening. Don't expect much accumulation here but still good to see it panning out the way it is. I think those west and south of me are in for a better time though! Good luck everyone!
  10. Not as best placed for this one. But every time there's a snowy spell in this country, here in the Black Country we always get there in the end. If we get little tomorrow there'll be other chances. December 2010 we had to wait until the 18th for ours but it was worth the wait. December 2009/January 2010 we had to wait until around the 5th January but again it was worth the wait. Always late to the party in the Black Country but we bring our own drinks so it doesn't matter!
  11. Feet on the ground here. Was a bit too far south on Boxing Day, could well end up being a bit too far north this time. Forecast for here has sproadic light snow showers on and off for Tuesday night. I will place my bets for that scenario at the moment for the Black Country.
  12. The situation seems so fluid. The next week is going to be a real test as to how beneficial these set ups really are. Going to be fun finding out!
  13. Boxing Day was a lesson that snow in these set ups is a bit of a lottery. Even within our region there were a lot of differences. Some of us did really well and it was a let down for others. Open minds regarding snow are going to be needed this week!
  14. I know you're off back to Cornwall this weekend hence why you think your winter is over. I'm sure though it's not a complete lost cause though is it? Cornwall can get it's snow events? When was the last time the tip of Cornwall saw lying snow? Have to say I am quite jealous of the Springs and Summers down there. Added on to the fact it looks like a stunning part of the country. Must get on the Night Riveria from Paddington one evening and check it out!
  15. Haven't spotted anything falling at all to be honest.
  16. First reaction to your post was 'Oh no, not another promising chart from way off in the future that'll never happen'. Then I clicked on it and saw the date. Hmmmm...although these snow prediction charts have been known to throw in false hope at very close time scales, much closer than that one. There seems to be some kind of chance there though doesn't there?
  17. Well there does seem to be a few showers about in the Peak District area. A few isolated ones over Wales but nothing to get excited about. Some forecasts maintain a low chance for sleet/snow showers here this evening. I would imagine them to be very isolated if any did get into this region. Been a beautiful day today....icy wind though. We have a lucher and he found his running about at the common more tiring than usual. He must have really felt it!
  18. The snow in March 2013 came with quite gusty winds...hence the drifting that month. Quick moving snow showers on a stream of showers from the northeast in late November/early December 2010 also came with quite gusty winds. Wind isn't exclusive to mild weather around here...just more likely thanks to our more common weather patterns. Also depends on location, I grew up in Lowestoft so was exposed to some very bitter and strong northerlies and easterlies during the 80s and 90s. We are of course more naturally sheltered here in the Midlands. Every winter is different anyway. To say that it's going to be windy and mild from November to April and then get easterlies might apply to this winter...or the next, you just don't know. You can never be too generic in this country!
  19. One or two icy splats on the car windscreen but that's about as good as it gets. Otherwise it's a horrid day. The worst kind of winter weather. The dog walk this morning was miserable and muddy. The roads are flooding. Mud is being bought in through my living room. Just as it was ALL last winter. I know we have to put up with this as some point every year but I just hope it doesn't go on for weeks on end again.
  20. Indeed, if Boxing day could only offer what it did, then this will be near impossible to get anything out of. The set up is a lot less favourable than it was on Boxing Day. However, it didn't take long for the lovely blue skies to return this week...so I will enjoy today first!
  21. Forecast doesn't suggest that happens until tomorrow morning. Though it could happen sooner. The frost is melting quite well this morning though.
  22. A full thaw with temperatures getting down to freezing tonight? How does that work? Tomorrow you will though. Such a shame we're losing this frosty high just to allow the Atlantic back in...sadly in for a while too.
  23. You were calling me negative yesterday! How do you know it will last the whole of Jan?
  24. That doesn't necessarily mean it's not going to happen! Things went slightly off plan yesterday remember!
  25. Stopping now though...and not much more out there according to the radar. Still..good to see falling snow just one more time.
