  1. Right ready boys and girls. If you look at the fax chart for Monday ,youll see ive highlighted in red the 528 dam which is the general consensus for snow at sea level, [the whole of the uk is under that!] the lines in blue are bands of snow showers which could well give a good covering to many places later on Monday and any accumulations will drift in that bitter east north east wind.post-6830-1233411661_thumb.png The real fun and games start in the early hours of Tuesday morning with that low moving slowly north , you,ll notice with this second chart we are still under that 528 dam line ,and the area in Blue is where I expect the heaviest of the snow, perhaps up to 12 inches in some favoured spots with drifting as well. It all depends how far north and how fast that low pushes its fronts across our area. There is potential for severe wintry weather in these synoptics but the devil will be in the detail, last minute changes can make a massive difference. Thats my thoughts at the moment....post-6830-1233412142_thumb.png :) :o :):)

  2. I love these outlandish, long range weather predictions, there about as good as the proverbial "chocolate teapot"

Yep thats what I wrote above, and reading that forecast, now, I can see why I wrote it! I always say credit where due on good forecasting , but that forecast he gave has done him no credit whatsover. The next time people read his LRF they will not believe a word.....[ian, if you read this learn a lesson and give up your Long range forecasts, ]

  3. Went to the Beautiful Black Mountains in Wales on Sunday with my friend and had a great time! We were just at the top of Hay Bluff at nearly 2,300 ft when we had a blizzard for about 15 minutes.! :) Ive never been in such a "white out " and the winds were ferocious , gusting to at least 60mph ,that the snow hurt your face when you walked towards it and the wind was enough to blow you pff youre feet! Just shows you how easily it is to get trapped on a mountain[even at modest heights] and get very cold[hypothermia]...its scary and dangerous ,but fortunately for us it was only for a few minutes....its a Stunning area ,here are some of the pics.....post-6830-1232476836_thumb.jpgpost-6830-1232476874_thumb.jpg[attachme

  7. Well not much of interest in our skies over this part of the world today, but a few pics just to show you how varied our skies are in the UK and how lucky we are to get such a variety of weather. Although there are no outstanding pics in this collection they were taken over the last week or so and shows that our skies are always painting a unique picture for us ,which sometimes we take for granted.....post-6830-1223821788_thumb.jpgpost-6830-1223821813_thumb.jpgpost-6830-1223821882_thumb.jpgpost-6830-1223821897_thumb.jpgpost-6830-1223821912_thumb.jpgpost-6830-1223821929_thumb.jpgpost-6830-1223821946_thumb.jpgpost-6830-1223821955_thumb.jpgpost-6830-1223821978_thumb.jpgpost-6830-1223821991_thumb.jpg

  8. The last couple of days have seen some nice Autumn weather but back in the start of October 1908 all the country was experiencing a "Classic" Indian Summer with temperatures widely into the 70sf as was the case from this extract....post-6830-1223814196_thumb.jpg As can be seen from the synoptic chart back then the whole of the UK was affected by a big European high much more dominant than we have right now.... :)

  9. I listened with amusement on country file this lunch time. Not about the plight the crops were in as this is serious but the rubbish the women came out with.

Farmers need to change there farming methods to cope with increased and heavier rainfall.

It wasn't very long they were saying that farmers had to change there methods becuase of the reduction of the rainfall.

I wish these people would stop making alarmist statements and realise that climate does naturally vary. In five years time it maybe drought drought.

If they want to be taken seriously they can't take every slight swing in the climate and make it into dooms day scenario.

Two wet summers does not make Armageddon.

Good point! I was thinking the same as you, how many times do we have to hear this rubbish?! Man has been battling against the elements since time began and because we have a run of wet/dry years these folks make such alarmist comments on wondering how we are gonna cope! I do really feel sorry for the farmers this year ,but what you fail to hear of is the number of good years farmers and growers have had ,and you dont often hear of there success, they have survived up to now and they will continue to do so ,the point is there is nothing new about our weather in this country being varied, it changes from year to year some wet, years ,some dry and a good many more years being very kind indeed! :D

  10. Hi and Welcome! I purchased a Davis Vantage Pro2 last year and its the best weather station ive ever had and very accurate. You can buy the additional software so you can link it into your computer [weather link 5.7] and I must say it works exceptionally well. Just type the weather station I mentioned into your search engine and it will come up with the info. As the Vantage Pro2 is made in the USA ,you will need a uk dealer, the details are as follows THE WEATHER SHOP@ 5 THE WATERFRONT,SOVEREIGN HARBOUR VILLAGE, EASTBOURNE, BN23 5UZ, OR TELEPHONE 01323 479769 or there website is www.weathershop.co.uk Hope that helps and best of luck! :D
