  1. So Lancaster did get its snow, but less than virtually the whole of the rest of the country, thanks to those winds creating a concentrated warming to the east of Morecambe Bay. 1cm temporarily settled, half-melted, and then froze over.
  2. At last, it did actually snow in Lancaster, albeit only 1cm. The snow struggled to settle as temperatures during the snow shower were close to 1C, but there were blizzards at times, similar to those I saw on the east coast on 22 December 2003. Now that the snow cleared, it's got colder (0.1C) and clear sky is advancing from the north. I can't say it's disappointing given that less than an hour ago it looked like we wouldn't get anything at all other than drizzle.
  3. SNOW!!!!!!!!! AMAZING!!!!!!! It's been mild and sleety and drizzly all day, but the temperature dropped from 3C to 1.1C and it's snowing and even settling!
  4. Still drizzle and sleet in Lancaster, the newfangled home of no snow.
  5. Cloudy with outbreaks of drizzle and sleety rain. Temperature 3.1C Very stong and gusty NW wind
  6. Welcome to Lancaster, one of the warmest places in the UK presently (about as warm as the likes of Blackpool and Liverpool despite being further inland and higher up, I would reckon Morecambe is currently warmest) and it's sleeting. Even the "snow" that arrived at 6-7am amounted only to sleet, as the temperature conveniently warmed up to 2C just in time, after having fallen to -2C just a couple of hours beforehand. At least "It Said Sunny Intervals!", MSL and Glenn got some snow before the warmth originating around Lancaster spread to other parts of the North West. Here, where the warmth originated, there wasn't anything beyond sleet falling.
  7. Splendid. Just splendid. Last night- rose to 4C. Sleety rain. Then it cleared up, and the temperature fell to -2C. Then, at around 6am, it suddenly warmed up to 2C, giving us a period of sleety drizzle. Now have near gale force winds blowing sleet and rain over Morecambe Bay. 4C. The temperature distribution across the North West shows that Lancaster is about as warm as Liverpool and Blackpool despite being rather further inland and higher up, which is very unusual. Meanwhile my parents in Tyneside are getting a good old dumping. I bet that if I was in Tyneside, an onshore wind would be giving sleety rain there (or they'd be staying dry), while Lancaster would be seeing snow flurries.
  8. It's clear now, but still 3C- how did all this warm air from Morecambe get over here? The winds aren't even off the sea!
  9. 2C and still very sleety. If only it could drop by another degree Celsius...
  10. Snowing nearby, as the streetlights to the nearby north and east have disappeared in a thick fog (indicating that those areas are getting snow) Looks like Lancaster City is getting some as the city can normally be seen from the University, whereas now you can't see a thing over there. Still sleeting here at the uni though, 2.7C.
  11. Yes, I didn't know the 2nd one was set to be so potent, so maybe it isn't the end of the world for Lancaster if the snow on the 1st one doesn't settle (which I get the distinct impression it won't.) 3C. Snowy yellow aurara covering the sky to the west and north.
  12. 3.6C in Lancaster easily the warmest it's been so far today. Now looking very doubtful for snow. That localised "pool" of snow free air seems to follow me around, it was present around the Tyneside coast on New Years Eve as well!
  13. Thick cumulus and stratocumulus overhead. 2C. Becoming windy. Precipitation can now clearly be seen over the Irish Sea, but still distant.
  14. Very strange in Lancaster with unforecasted Cb clouds over the Irish Sea
  15. Frontal cloud thickening to the NW. Temp falling, now around 2C. Wind picking up from the north, and a juicy 1500 radar showing heavy sustained precipitation to the north.
  16. 3C, virtually no wind, sunny. Sky completely clear except for some wispy frontal cloud to the north and west.
  17. Sunny and quite chilly in Lancaster, after a frosty night. Temperature crept up to 3C.
  18. Sunny all day. Max 6-7C. Isolated showers in the region but we missed them.
  19. Sunny all day- the first sunshine for a week! Cb clouds now approaching, after a fine start.
  20. Westerly picking up, temperature falling about 0.1C per minute.
