Everything posted by Thundery wintry showers

  1. Clear and cold in Lancaster. We had a hail shower at 4pm which was certainly wintry in nature with sleety stuff mixed in, I'm not sure if the 'sleet' was a mix of rain and melting snow, or rain and melting hail.
  2. Wow- there's certainly been a lot of thundery and wintry showers around this week, often simultaneously!! I didn't get any thunder though.
  3. Well, I've just had a fall of precipitation which is difficult to classify: a shower of hail produced a light wet covering, and there appeared to be sleety bits mixed in but I'm not sure if the 'sleet' was just rain mixed with half-melted hail.
  4. No activity at Lancaster itself yet, but there are scattered large cumulus around, and if we hit any they look like they would produce hail. With a temperature of near 10C, however, sleet or snow is unlikely here.
  5. Sunny, just a few cumulus (Cu) to the east. Rather chilly, at 6C.
  6. Cold and clear in Lancaster, max was 8C, now falling to 5C. Reports suggest there has been serious thundery activity in NE England, anyone around to confirm this?
  7. Max 8C here in Lancaster. A mainly cloudy day, quite hazy, with a little sun and a few light rain showers. Strengthening, cold E wind. I was amazed, though, at how easily the showers were getting over the Pennines.
  8. 7C in Lancaster, light NE breeze. Light rain shower, would probably have turned to sleet if it had been heavier, but the main shower area was to the south of us. Now clearing up.
  9. 4-4:15pm: At last, the cloud came over- just before the precipitation on it fizzled out! Shower of fine, sleety rain, a bit like what what Dazmaster75 reported but only 15 minutes worth. The temperature fell to about 4C.
  10. The area of precipitation to my west finally came over (albeit only for 15 minutes, before dying out) and gave a shower of fine sleety rain! Shame it didn't come earlier in the day, as it would've snowed then, but I was lucky in a way (anywhere upwards of 1 mile east of me got nowt!) PS Cheshire, after Merseyside, is probably the North West's least snow prone region.
  11. I look like maxing at around 6C, precipitation is closer than it's ever been but seems to be dying out all the while. Cloudy, with Cb still very much in close attendance.
  12. Precipitation STILL stuck out to the west, just a couple of miles away. Temp crept above 5C. Chilly feel.
  13. Now 4-5C in Lancaster, and that area of precipitation is still stubbonly refusing to come within a mile of where I am, but it's still looking extremely grey to the W and SW.
  14. Creeping up to 4C, sadly, the (precipitation) seems as though it's dying out almost as soon as it reaches the land.
  15. Lancaster Update: Temperature up to a whopping great 3C as well. The snowclouds are getting tantalisingly close, but I fear it will have warmed up too much by the time they get here. Precipitation can be seen about a mile or two away from the fact that fog is developing over Morecambe Bay. Miss Snow Lover, have a good check of any precipitation. If it's foggy, it may be sleeting or even snowing.
  16. Here in Lancaster, the minimum was 0C and it's frosty. Currently 1C. Cloudy. Large Cb clouds to the west, which display characteristics of typical snow (yes, SNOW!) clouds. However, their precipitation is stuck a few miles to the west, so I can't report any snow as none has fallen.
  17. Sunny with a couple of rain showers until about 3pm, then it clouded over. Freshening west wind, 11C, 70% humidity. The front is well and truly approaching!
  18. Lancaster had a heavy rain shower at 4pm with the temperature standing at 8C. I didn't see any sleet, but it's certainly consistent with reports of sleet showers further inland and higher up.
  19. Rain shower, with a current temperature of 12.7C (needs to be at least 8 or 9C colder if we are to have snow!) Freshening winds from the north west. Broken cloud.
  20. Sunny intervals, patchy cloud. 18C. It was windy until recently but the wind's dropped a bit.
  21. Just sunny here in Lancaster. And warm. No sign of any thunderstorms!
  22. AT LAST! The weather has so far been very dull and boring with a little drizzle, but now the sun's coming out and the temperature is responding nicely. Might even make it to 20C here in the North West once the sun really gets out!
  23. Lancaster has had a rather disappointing day, cloudy with outbreaks of rain, and not much in the way of sunshine. Nice sunset though!
  24. Sunshine and showers again here in Lancaster, but no hail or thunder this time. It cleared up in the afternoon.
  25. Sun and showers again in Lancaster. Hail just after 12 noon.
