  1. Heavy heavy rain here, slowly becoming less now, but gutters can't cope with it. Brightening up a bit now towards west, I think, but still thunder around. Not sure if we are due for some more (should have cleaned out the gutters methinks)
  2. Still rumbles echoing around the place, lots and lots of rain, the road outside has streams running down it So nice to have a longer storm (almost like days gone by, dare I say) and to clear the air somewhat with some fresh rain. Staying at home and not chasing as too much rain but camera is filming out of one window and got my eye on/out the other window on the other side of the house. Am very pleased that the weather has rewarded (most of) us today
  3. Things pepping up again, massive shotgun type crack of thunder just now, heavy rain, dogs barking, think that must have woken a few people up quite breezy too.
  4. :o saw something in the middle of my monitor flicker and suddenly a big shotgun crack of thunder. I think I should leave the pc a short while and look out of the window and enjoy this
  5. Typical, I stick the camera on and what happens? Thunder gets less. Very warm and humid here. Glad to have rain and some storm around anyway, wonder if it will keep up until it gets dark and then can do some lightning shots perhaps? Everything seems to be hidden behind cloud. UPDATE: thunder off in distance again, rain intensifying again.
  6. Closer rumbles in time and distance. Grey skies, no rain as yet, haven't spotted any lightning but thinking of going to viewpoint nearby to see if anything interesting can be seen apart from grey skies (last two times went out to 'chase/view' one rumble and that was it, over... however today's temps and feel is very different). EDIT: now big rain shower! might just stay indoors a bit and see what develops!
  7. Think I just heard first rumble of thunder here... oh, and another, very low distant one. Marvellous
  8. Preparing cameras and kit - ready to go out and about over next couple of days, very exciting forecasts! Saw some altocumulus castellanus earlier (well I think it was, still get some cloud types mixed up) and other high level cloud but now it is completely blue sky here good luck to all those who chase and let us hope everyone has some interesting times and things to report soon!
  9. Had one rumble of thunder about an hour+ ago, looked out at some low swirling cloud and thought right, time to go outside/chase. Got to favourite viewing location, (nr Ipswich), and waited for clouds to pass over. Not much of note then except heavy showers, and then some wonderful mammatus to rival what I recently saw in USA. Pics to follow soon, hopefully. Rather pleased with mini 'chase'. Now windy with less heavy cloud and all the storm cells that seemed to have been around earlier have disappeared (from what I can see now out of my windows)
  10. Hadleigh, near Ipswich. Think the main rumbles were to the south (east) of me anyway, but they passed by quick enough, and it all died off :/ According to the radar have had some heavy rain around here today...
  11. Had a few rumbles near to here, probably south heading up the coast, it seems, and also saw some lightning cloud to cloud. Wasted away somewhat the closer it seemed to get to the coast, and left some nice cirrus trails, some mammatus tried to form but not very defined. Rainbow too. Mini chase over practically before it started, but was excited nonetheless to be out taking pics! Lovely skies really, this afternoon
  12. Just would like to echo what has been said already - big thanks to those on Tour 3 for making the trip a memorable one, to Paul for finding the weather, John H for all the driving and Arron for GPS and navigation. Plus of course more big thanks go to the others on the tour for their company too. One day maybe I shall book a place on another tour, as I've realised that I want to see more... but for now the 2011 Tour stays as an experience never to be forgotten! Thanks everyone
  13. Thanks, will message nearer the time, for some reason I thought it would be a very early start so that time is just fine.
  14. OK, I am here in Dallas already, taking in the storm that has so very kindly arrived so soon. Am staying at the Sheraton DFW, almost within site of the Best Western, though that's not within safe walking distance for me unfortunately. Probably won't meet up with folks tonight as still trying to adjust with jet lag and whatnot. What time must we meet at car rentals on Sunday, plz? Have got a mobile number if needed... well, a big crack of thunder just then, makes me wonder how long this will continue, hopefully enough for some good test shots and and like!
  15. Hi, Though am almost done preparing my stuff for my trip (Tour 3) I realise I need some things that other people have listed. Can someone please recommend/advise: - A good quality 4 way adaptor plug for USA - Whether or not I need something like this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B003MA5IZM/ref=oss_product (bearing in mind I need to use chargers for camera, phone, computer etc) Whether people favour video over still images, and how feasible it is to do both ie. is there time when in and out of car, and how much space in car for all this kit of everyone's Any advice most appreciated... Seeing the news today about the storms and tornado hits, I am :o
  16. Greetings, I'm on Tour 3 and have booked flights and hotel a couple of days before (to acclimatise and maybe catch up with sleep and sort camera) and after tour (to meet up with friends in Dallas), so I have no need to get to airport at particular time on designated leaving day. Don't know if this helps! I can see everyone is getting excited already! If I start getting overexcited now, I'll be a blithering mess by the time the tour begins. Mind you, I already started to buy kit last year before I'd even booked! Kim
  17. Hi, my first post here after lurking for ages but things need reporting perhaps! Any Suffolk people see the sky this afternoon round about 4pm-5pm? Wonderful high clouds of different types dragging a huge swathe diagonally across the sky, and what I believe was a smallish fallstreak hole in the cloud layer (as well as a sun halo trying to emerge, and negative contrails). Really great, and I am gutted I couldn't take any pics (was in the car in Ipswich) can anyone confirm or elaborate on this? (no, not about me being in the car...)
