  1. That is warm, certainly. Here though only the interior hallway area is cool - because I am following weather stuff and doing things at computer in cool area, am not feeling the heat quite so much. Elsewhere, upstairs, living room, probably 26C plus... will deal with that later (or be out chasing!)
  2. 31.6 here from a rather ancient and low cost thermometer (well it probably is accurate today but gets a bit upset in the very hot and very cold and won't transmit wirelessly). However I can believe the temp certainly. Haven't even bothered with Met O forecast today. Looking at various weather sites and taking the general view - didn't expect the storm (that fizzled out) this morning either but then I was falling asleep so didn't check sites late last night. I should have done! If I have to do an all nighter tonight, I will! I'm hoping for something over the next day or so. Would really like to capture some lightning Not feeling the heat too much as interior of house is old and cool. Keep drinking lots of water, everyone!
  3. I understand your pain - the storm shield here was working once again this morning. The storm that did arrive nearby was moving so fast, that I never would have been able to keep up especially around rush hour. According to all those in Essex and a bit further south it was a stunner. It's frustrating despite a whole lot of lightning going off a few miles away. Though haven't you had some nice storms visit Norfolk in recent weeks? Think we will have to get our own HAARP program running... sunshine here now, and temps rising, things drying out slowly. Another nice day - but am hoping for storms later. It's got to happen!
  4. At about 642 I got up as there was a storm rumbling to the south, the one over/near Colchester. Taking a quick look at radar it seemed a nice little storm was heading my way A marked cloudline and a front of something rolled over incredibly fast and it was as black as night but kind of hazy looking - quite eerie but wouldn't translate to camera very well. All the action was again happening to the west/south west, and despite all the lightning on the radar, I saw about three flashes, and that was it - more rumbles and as per usual it fizzled out as soon as it got level more or less with my location/Ipswich. Rain set in and I feel I missed it - again, also it was travelling pretty fast so no time to really chase further - should have got up earlier!
  5. Here are some images of the cell that passed by - only saw one lightning flash, just distant thunder, very sporadic. Case of more interesting structure than content, I think. Very warm and humid, I think today was supposed to happen yesterday (I knew I might have to eat my words after my previous 'rant' post!) Torrential rain after the last cell clipped this location, the odd puddle left over from previous rain transformed into huge lakes on the roads which were practically covered in water. Beginning to rain again as the grey overcast clears from these storms. Have posted pics in Storms and Convective Thread 7th July onwards on page 23 for those who are interested. Some lovely cloudscapes today

  7. I'm a bit of a way from Sudbury but could see it heading (from that direction) towards my area, fairly frequent lightning (compared to what usually happens around here) and big rumbles. Maybe some CG but didn't see them as probably looking away to sort settings on camera. Heavy rain started and is now continuing. Didn't really see any wild skies, generally overcast and camera captures were a washout so didn't see anything of note in those either. Glad to have some thunder at least, it's been a while!
  8. Back from my viewing point! Quite a nice lot of lightning but all sheet lightning and if there were CG bolts I missed them while sorting out shutter on camera, as per usual I miss them in between leaving the shutter open for periods. So I took video instead, and finally caught the last big flash of the storm, will extract the frames and post here in a few. (I did speak too soon earlier about having no storms!!! However the track of the storm was about the usual path, despite being west to east today, and has again fizzled out over Ipswich. EDIT: appalling captures, not worth posting, quite disappointed.
  9. Finally storm heard in distance from the band approaching east, so far only IC lightning, going out to viewpoint in a few moments and will see if it continues to my location or dies out as per normal! Band certainly seems active as it approaches. Watching radar until I go out to see if I can capture some lightning...
  10. To be honest, as I stated in a post a few days ago, I don't look at the Met Office because I don't trust them to be correct. I look at various forecasts and sites, some originating abroad and take a general view. If some give forecasts that are generally the same, that is what I kind of expect to happen. I am no forecaster nor am I an expert in weather but I would have thought second and third opinions, so to speak, are quite useful to have. Having said that, today I am rather frustrated at various forecasts who, for the past few days to a week, almost, been forecasting for my area 50+% chance of storms. Netweather and other sites have forecast this. OK, before you bash me and say learn to look at models, just for today let say why can't I do as most people might and go by the 'general public' sort of forecast? I am trying to learn (hideously slowly) and look at the model threads but I have to say NW - wrong - no storms are forming today, and if you think that 22 or 23 feels like 30 as was mentioned in the NW 7 day, that is not the case. And I have lived in a hot country so I can safely say, this is not hot at all and not even the 'real feel' is correct. WeatherOnline.co.uk app has stated storms today/weekend for the past week - so far, wrong, and they are usually pretty good. The cloud over us barely cleared until 1pm. East Anglia (certainly an IP postcode) is not the Midlands where most of the storms have ended up tracking. Met Office - from reading the forums it appears there are storm warnings though not sure about their timescales. Now storm chance is pushed to this evening. If NW can just perhaps put into your database that my postcodes (I live on the edges of two areas) for this area never get a storm, you can make your forecasts more accurate. Normally I am very positive on these forums and post helpful answers to various (non weather questions),granted. I am not wishing to stir things up, nor do I want to start a whole debate. I am just very frustrated that something forecast by varied sources seem very wrong, and temps so very wrong. I even went to a topographical map to see why the trend is that my area avoids storms, is it because winds and moisture and whatever else get sucked towards the lowland Fens, or the heat island of Ipswich and then other nearby towns make the storms track either side of us. I am trying to find this out. I watched the sferics on the radar this morning approach Ipswich and begin to skirt and fizzle out, was it the heat island effect? Amazing if so, how it wipes it all out. I may have to eat my words later if a right old banger of a storm does pop up. But for now, I am: Yours Disgruntled of this part of Suffolk.
  11. Very heavy/torrential rain this morning passed over just after 7am. It was so heavy the gutters overflowed and it sounded like the wind was blowing but mostly it was the sound of rain. Heaviest rain we have had in a long time. Currently grey and 15c. Waiting for the heat to arrive! Still hoping for a bit of thundery activity over the weekend...
  12. Couple of rumbles here in the last 15 mins, and dying as usual while passing through this area. Heavy rain, great for the garden. Typical system tracking either side of this area, along the coast and further inland towards Bury St Edmunds.
  13. Personally I don't look at the BBC forecasts because of their accuracy - I look at Netweather and a few others and whoever is roughly matching each other, that is my general view of the weather. I'm trying to slowly learn charts and whatnot. However, Netweather said 52% chance of storm (yesterday) for today (and tomorrow also), which was soon wiped off the 10 day forecast this morning. The other weather sources I look at state thunderstorms also, so that is what I am kind of expecting. Having said that, we have blue skies and scattered cloud here, with some convection, more towards the distance. I am not expecting anything to produce right now. I think I need really to move to Peterborough/Norwich area, as they have had a great showing recently. North France is having a good storm presently also, showing up on NW radar.
  14. I really like the paint work on Miss Demeanour, actually. Great photos!
  15. I remember seeing it years ago, this and the Lightning, and latterly the Harrier, I was always a bit wary of. Why? Because they made one hell of a noise! Now nothing seems quite as loud and as raw, though I admit I haven't been to a show full of jets etc. as I tend to see a lot of the prop aircraft. I went to Sywell (great little airshow) in order to see the Vulcan a few years ago, but it was grounded (weather) at a base and couldn't take off to do the show, which was hugely disappointing. I waited until it came to Duxford in 2012 and I was so pleased to see it, a moment worth waiting for. Then I managed to see and capture it as it flew over my location when it flew back from a display at Clacton, and almost immediately after this it was grounded due to a fuel leak. Fabulous aircraft and very glad to see it is flying this year again.
  16. LOL I think we are becoming a bit desperate due to lack of storms. I am lucky to live in a place that does not experience disruptive snowfall or floods, or heat (and I have lived in hot and cold countries and weather in my area really is not extreme at all). However due to storms always tracking either side of me, I think I really have picked the wrong place. I found myself having a sudden urge to relocate to Belgium or Germany, places I have not previously considered living in... or even Norfolk or the Midlands! I'll check on Woking later...
  17. Paris is going to have a long period of storm activity, looking at how it is tracking up and over the city. Bremen looks like it is is going to get eaten up by the massive German storm, however that does seem to be dividing and it probably will just skirt either side of Bremen completely. Still radar watching to see if anything reaches here, meanwhile eating far too many Ricola sweets than I should be in an attempt to stay awake and be ready to dash out to try to capture some lightning (hoping in vain, I think)
  18. It seems to happen all the time in my location! Admittedly not under a huge storm like the one in Germany right now. But certainly they divide either to the left of London and curve up round to Norfolk or elsewhere, or they track up on the other side of Ipswich, along the coast and up to the North Sea. Very frustrating! Am radar watching tonight to see if something does target here, for once.
  19. It's calmed a little, at Dortmund. However at Munster it looks like it is being flattened... :/
  20. Seems to be a bit of undulatus about, although not very pronounced.
  21. and from another cam: http://www.wetter.com/wettercom-live/muenster/5295ba6c3572b/ Follow the panorama, looks end of worldly...
