  1. Yes I went to see the Vulcan, I knew it was due to fly past Wattisham. Wanted to get to just north of the base but didn't have time so ended up going to another place I know, a bit further away. But then I saw it, banking slightly as it made its turn towards the north towards Norwich/Cambridge. So pleased to have seen it. I am determined to see it again this year on display, and have bought tickets to Headcorn in Kent for their show in August. Cheap tickets too, much cheaper than Duxford and one of the more local venues for a display, from my location. Really hope the weather plays fair. Here are some far away pics, I don't have a good enough zoom for this, but at least it shows her overflying Wattisham, for the record.
  2. Further to my post earlier (see on page 23 or so of current South East/Anglia Regional discussions!) while out in the storm, here is a mixed bag of pics from last night. It was truly a disco out there, cloud lightning flashing constantly, not a huge amount of thunder though some occasional big rumbles. Stayed out watching until about 315, the cell moving off to the north/northwest of me. Intermittent heavy rain but overall not much, so photography could continue and the light show was not hampered by it. I saw some fabulous CG in the distance, some bolts dropping two at a time (see later pics). Worth staying up for and a good effort reminding me of USA storm fare! It was still flashing as I drove home. Have badly processed pics this morning Glad many of us got to enjoy this sort of storm

  4. An absolutely fantastic light show, just adding in the biggest crack of thunder as I write this. Been out since about 1145 and at my usual vantage point could see the cell firing over the edge of Kent, and slowly the one approaching over London also. Quite a while without rain, which gave good photo ops but the lightning tortured me by striking when the shutter was closed between shots. General sheet lightning but then as time passed there were several cloud crawlers and some lovely CG strikes. Now raining heavily as I sit in the car typing this. Lighting all around still flashing, first cell has long gone off the coast and am surrounded by the orher cell which has spread and slowly moved to the north. This is an old 80s style storm, long lived and electrical. Will post shots once home, disappointed at efforts from what u see in caners but what a great night for storms in this area! And still it rumbles and flashes on...
  5. Sorry a bit off topic - Have you tried Adaptil (plug in wall diffuser with calming effect) or (aptly named!) a Thundershirt? These might help to calm him down. Our previous dog hated them and in the end we got him pills to calm him but that was before other things were available. Our current dog thankfully doesn't bat an eyelid despite me rushing about with camera gear in and out the house. Back on topic: Grey gloomy clouds here, spots of rain, slightly fresher feel today which is a change from yesterday certaily. Chance to cool down the house a little and breathe before the next round of heat.
  6. Had a few heavy but distantrumbles here and according to Netweather radar, a few flashes around further north, though I haven't seen any as have been looking at the computer screen instead! Grey cloud and very heavy rain, nothing much to see. Again according to radar it seems to be growing or intensifying but normally in this area they tend to die out, therefore it is trying, but not getting anywhere really...
  7. Another small storm has passed over, few rumbles, very messy looking with not much structure at all. Cracks of thunder every 10 mins or so, had an absolutely massive shot gun crack of thunder which tripped the electricity and set off building alarms. Now disappearing in same direction as previous, clearer skies approaching.

  9. Thx all! Wonder if we will get anything else soon? Anyone else get any pictures today? Those shots look interesting, Harry! According to lightningmaps.org there has been a huge amount of activity in the area and everything is now moving towards the coast. Looks like the separate streams of storms have just merged into one big mess. Standing water now draining away and the sky clearing somewhat.
  10. Here are some cloud shots of this morning's storm approaching and passing over. Pleased I got a bit of structure! Not really post processed much as yet plus a few rain blobs, please excuse! I think this may be the closest thing to mothership type structure that I will get in this country. Mostly lighting was within the clouds, torrential rain, small pea sized hail at one point, ground is saturated with standing water.

  12. Chaser convergence!! But they are right in the mix with some serious stuff happening!
  13. Yes they are going to come face to face with all the other chasers going back up north!
  14. Tornado just crossed highway 5 road near Elmer, wedge tornado turned to cone,David Drummond on it, all the chasers moving away yet looking back down highway 5. Power lines down and some damage south of Elmer
  15. David Drummond (tvnweather.com) is just west of Brownfield, about two miles south of 380, he is watching the storm which is throwing out bolts, there was some rotation. There are not many chasers out there at the moment, let alone streaming, hope the team can see some good stuff
  16. Hi to everyone on the stream! Some nice bolts there... !
  17. Storm approached earlier this afternoon, mostly cloud to cloud lightning a few times, few booming rumbles, exceedingly heavy rain shower. Not much structure as it approached but as it travelled away I caught this panoramic shot of the showers and some instability (correct me if wrong)

  19. Thunder today? With a 52% chance for my area, according to the 7/10 day forecast, but with CAPE and the storm risk maps looking more significant, it may happen today whereas the last time we had 52% chance, nothing happened. I admit I am not very educated on forecasting and other factors yet, so far I just would like this rain to clear... should have been in the garden yesterday!!
  20. The Sirens Project - UAV Tornado Research This seems an enthusiastic idea however not quite sure of the longevity of it or the drones once tornado season resumes or they begin their tornado hunting... I won't be investing, but will be interesting to see if it gets off the ground!
  21. Woken by low rumbles at about 730, looked out window but all was just grey muck and rain. Up until about 815-30 the storm gradually increased with some big menacing rumbles of thunder but as soon as it got overhead, it fizzled out, as per usual! Intense rain for a time, still raining now.

Up until about 815-30 the storm gradually increased with some big menacing rumbles of thunder but as soon as it got overhead, it fizzled out, as per usual! This time though, because of the intense rain, I was pleased because the extension roof was leaking and I had to get a ladder to put a tarp over it (slightly concerned as there were still thunder and flashes about). Now just raining but certainly a good soaking, which is pleasing for the garden though secretly I wish for a return to the dry weather as it has been great. Still raining now.
  23. Frustration! Suddenly realised the cell was approaching and as it grew and changed it rumbled away - no lightning seen. Wind blowing in wrong direction here so nothing happening over my location, usual track taken up and over Bury St Edmunds (they must be getting a right pasting) and up towards Norwich and Norfolk. This side of Ipswich, bone dry and no clouds above us or near us. Not able to go after it so took some pics as it went by.
