  1. This passed through a short while ago, angry storm and thought it might do something interesting ie. try for a funnel but no. Some very good CG and anvil crawlers though.
  2. Nice angry storm passed through, just back from vantage point, some great CG bolts, and anvil crawlers. Including one CG rather too much in my location which made me retreat into the car. Fabulous cracking thunder! Certain I saw some bits of updraft, maybe things were rotating or attempting to, and I am convinced I saw a greenish tinge centrally in the cloud - hail? An interesting lowering and menacing cloud are seen in the pics. Now going through video for any lightning views.
  3. Some more images today, very visible mammatus on the cells today. Storms were rattling up the east coast and I could see them from where I was located further inland, some lovely cloud structures. First cloud image is of a distant cell's mammatus around 1420. Other cells followed its path along the coast and finally at about 1630 a speedy and angry little cell came right overhead so I went after it! Sat underneath filming and managed to see a couple of flashes, including the one CG that is shown here, screen grab from video. As the cell passed, with a few sharp rumbles of thunder until it was in the distance, a huge diagonal line was across the sky with some very defined mammatus showing, as seen in the following images. Finally the cell retreated into the distance although mushroomed somewhat before starting to decay. Great show today, rather unexpected!
  4. Panoramics of the front passing through, firstly approaching, then leaving, looked very impressive but barely any thunder or lighting, storm shield worked again!
  5. Some lovely cloud structure as the convective line passed through, some flashes probably round and about but not seen, one rumble of thunder, shower of rain but nothing very heavy for long at all, fizzled out over here (as per normal) though some more nice structure as it headed towards coast, very defined cloud base and then the sun came out. Got back home to see the radar had practically cleared itself of everything in this area. Here are two panoramics of the gust front (? correct me if I'm wrong) approaching and leaving.
  6. Sorry slightly off topic but just to say it would be nice if people could give credit or state where pics are from, if the knowledge is there. However everyone likes to say 'I shot that' if posting a super pic, they got it, they caught it, and take credit - so why not give credit to others pics too, when possible? And now for some weather: Fast moving storm moved through about 15 mins ago, only about three rumbles but the last big booming echo almost shook the ground, and was preceded by a big flash. Raining here now, but still feels warm.
  7. ooops delete my reply to the above post... something wrong with my page refreshing
  8. According to Netweather Radar and http://www.lightningmaps.org/realtime?lang=en there doesn't seem to be any newish activity as it tracks north ish over land
  9. Don't give up hope, there is normally a storm shield for here but these past few days it has broken! I'm a bit in shock to be honest! It does happen, and I hope for you that you do get a storm sooner rather than later. I do understand your disappointment though, nature/weather can be very frustrating!
  10. It's just sort of backbuilding and hovering east of Ipswich... wonder if it will expand or disappear... huge amount of murk and haze, saw top of anvil sort of thing but any structure is hidden for the moment. Home grown, according to the radar.. and something I haven't seen here for a long long time, forming as it is now.
  11. Slowly building rumbles from the cell to my east, wondering if it will keep its intensity. Not seen any lighting as in garden stubbornly finishing some jobs but will go out to take pics if it becomes more interesting...
  12. Raining here - still warm. Went out to capture the small slice of the current system now out in the channel, which gave a great little show of bolts and anvil crawlers.
  13. Captured at about 2120 this evening as a thin slice of the system travelled along from the south and helpfully threw out a few lovely CG and anvil crawlers without any rain nearby. Actually a great display although very short before rain arrived and everything dissipated.
  14. Hi, not sure - possibly something approaching Cardiff - take a look at the Netweather radar and select Lightning On, and see what there is maybe a spot of rain at least on the way? Sorry for late reply - catching up on thread... oops
  15. Some lovely anvil crawlers from the second round we have had, booming rolling thunder which has lasted for ages as it echoes back to here while moving out to the coast. Got a few captures from video as too tired and jumping between too many windows to relocate camera and tripod - video grab is noisy but a record, anyway. No heavy rain yet, wonder if more will happen?
  16. Woke up from short nap to hear thunder, and to see some super anvil crawlers in a pink sky. Lots of flashing for a short while! Decided to film out the windows so will have to sort through and take captures. Amazing thunder, really heavy and long rumbles, reminds me of 80s storms. Now dying out though still the odd rumble and flash, rain, but not heavy. Preparing for the next batch?
  17. Is it possible to start a fresh thread (potentially for round 2/early hours) for activity, please? This is a huge thread now Thanks if you can.
  18. Some of the captures I have managed to get this evening - didn't see much structure at all unfortunately as it was dark really by the time anything reached here. First pic is heavily processed to show mammatus which I saw in the last bits of light as I was driving. Camera and photo program enhanced it. Undulatus type instability before the lightning came, couldn't reproduce adequately in camera because of the light but could see it with the naked eye. Then the lightning started to build, although sporadic, not much thunder and it wasn't close by either. Some great CG and anvil crawlers in the yellow orange sky (orange really from the neighbouring towns). Here are some captures (sorry for any dead pixels, haven't edited all out yet). Quite pleased with what I achieved before the storm fizzled as per usual here... sorry if pics a little dark, don't get much opportunity to practice anymore!
  19. Meteo France has an amber warning out for potentially dangerous storms: http://vigilance.meteofrance.com/ Link to http://www.meteoalarm.eu/ (in English) You still can get an idea of where their warnings are even if you don't speak the language, and if you or others are travelling or staying, might be worth a look on these sites. Also, with their forecast also of risk of violent storms: http://www.keraunos.org/ If you need some translation I can assist! Hope this doesn't annoy folk, just posting to be helpful and might be of interest to see things build there and track what may come here.
