I would've suggest Buxton obviously if the system kept a more southerly track. Dovestone reservoir or Hawes. Maybe Queensbury.

Queensbury always seems a good bet and it's a decent sized town within a couple of miles of the motorway network (M62/M606). Its my go to for marginal snow events as its within 5miles of my work but is over 200n higher at about 320m.theres a pub to go to just out of town, just past a village called "Mountain". Also you can keep heading north towards Harrogate to follow the snow! All the above were taken whilst it was raining at the M62 Junction 2620150117_105554.thumb.jpg.aa707223ffcf8e3f2db52416f71b9778.jpg20150117_115405.thumb.jpg.debeb55a4a1d21236f25c2a2497e2462.jpg20150117_120119.thumb.jpg.c85c6312ecaa47d23645c2592a2028bc.jpg

  2. By for now, Michael. You've been a big part of inspiring many of the people who are part of this community today. You were one of the golden age of forecasters and will continue to be. Hope you can still contribute in some way, maybe on the forums occasionally, god knows we could have used your input this past 10 days! Hope your health doesn't affect you too much and I wish you a happy, merry Christmas and joyful new year. All the best, sir. ? ⚡ ☀

    And all change again overnight.

Oh dear, when I went to bed it seemed like everything was coming together nicely with the ECM coming on board, now it sounds like everything's flipped the other way but it's OK, according to a certain MOD comedian, it's the GEM and ARPEGE that are the best after all. No doubt there's a 90% certainty that they are right today

  4. So wind warnings for the whole region onTuesday and a snow warning for Western hilly parts. Interestingly, however, the snow warning doesn't mention anything about elevation, just says 2-5cm widely in the warning area. Not sure what to make of that as my home is outside the warning (just) but my work at Cleckheaton is in it, but at less than 100m asl. I wish I worked at Queensbury, its only 5 miles from work but over 300m asl so rarely marginal!

  5. Wild night here with rain and ice pellets turning to snow sometime around 3am. Left a decent covering which is now horribly slushy. No met office warning for snow here, or indeed anywhere in Yorkshire other than the Pennines, despite there being travel chaos with the M1 being closed near Rotherham due to the snow. Its still very blowy out there now and rather cold to boot so I am refusing to get out of bed!20211127_072553.thumb.jpg.14e406df7fa4d42b801f62eca69dbade.jpg
