  1. The Calais storms may well slide past us here along the fringes of the east coast.
  2. My posts are still here, but I have noticed really good posts being deleted.
  3. MCS is Multi-Cell System, correct? Is it a Spanish Plume? Also, when you say it'll rotate around the Low, that means it'll swing more north-west (backing, rather than veering, I think?) Sorry to ask so many simple questions, but I'm a novice and this is a great learning experience for me!
  4. On the radar I'm seeing, that's where the brightest colours are.
  5. As I asked in the last thread - what's with the stuff over France? What is the cause and why are MetO still only really mentioning the cold front over the West? Finally, storm chances for me (S. Norfolk) and Chloe (W.London), please?
  6. Just logged-in again after a couple of weeks away. Am watching the "Raintoday" radar, and I am interested in the storms over NE France - can any learned member here explain to me (in layman's terms) what they are associated with (front?) and why Met O seems only to be talking about the rather feeble-looking cold front out West. Also, predictions of when I (in S. Norfolk) might get something, please?
  7. Partly cloudy, some sunny intervals during the evening, breezy.
  8. Call it a lucky guess based on the radar image at the time! Hmmm, in the last few minutes darker clouds have blown in on the westerly breeze - possibly a shower in the next few minutes? Edit: Darkest clouds are crossing to our north, but no radar echo according to Meteogroup.
  9. There looks to be some lively showers off the North Yorkshire coast too.
  10. Is Ross Bay anywhere near Stranraer? If so, I can see the showers on the radar.
  11. Very nice images Sir! Looks like there has been a fairly hefty shower passing along the North Norfolk coast in the last half hour.
  12. The MetO radar suggests that's it for you, weathercoxy. Looks like there are some heavy showers west of London ATM?
  13. Thanks - detected, I assume, like this: Wikipedia link
  14. OK, I'm a dunce, an utter simpleton - what is sferic?
  15. Well, being in Norfolk, our local BBC news (Look East) has used WeatherQuest forecasts rather than Met Office for several years now (since not long after the Norwich Weather centre closed), and I'm sure that they are usually more accurate in their forecasting for us than the national TV forecasts.
  16. Nothing heard at all here in S. Norfolk. Quite heavy rain this morning that has now cleared to the east. Still overcast, but signs of thinner cloud to NW (my desk is next to a window looking North over our back garden).
  17. It's nice to be on a forum that makes me feel young - I seem to be made to feel ridiculously old in the 'real world' where, if you're over 21 you've had it! In 1981 I was a babe in arms, so have no recollection of this event. I'm interested in the poster who recalled massive storms in late May 1989, though - that was the first summer that I can clearly remember being really hot; however, we went to Jersey for a week's holiday in early-mid June, and, on our return, our neighbours told us that there had been some dreadful thunderstorms during that week, on the same day that we'd looked out over the Channel and seen clouds in the far distance (other than that we had clear blue skies and soaring temperatures for the whole week). Are you sure that the MCS was in late may, or could it have been early-ish June?
  18. Apparently, a dead pallbeagle has been washed-up nearby, and it's thought that this was the shark that caused all the fuss.
  19. 10/10ths boring grey cloud cover, dry, light winds. Boring, boring, boring, but as long as those areas recently affected by floding are OK, I'll put-up with it.
  20. Same here - I was fruit-picking today and it was gorgeous - classic English summer weather.
  21. Sounds delightful! Tamara, as a fish-lover, can you recommend any reasonably-priced good fish restaurants around the country for when I go on my hols, please? I'll give you a tip in return - if you ever find yourself in Southwold, Suffolk and are in the position to buy some fish for cooking rather than looking to dine out, might I recommend John's Fish Shop on East Street? If you have Rick's Food Heroes directory you might have heard about this wonderful fishmongers, but I can heartily recomend it - they do their own hot and cold smoking and I can vouch for the quality of their hot-smoked salmon steak and trout.
