  1. Same here, they are usually pretty potent showers as well, and if the north westerly is as strong as the 6.30pm forecast suggested then we should get a fair few coming through.
  2. Once again the Met Office have conflicting maps and text forecasts. Really is annoying. It says on their text forecast "Risk of longer spells of sleet or snow Tuesday." However, when you take a look at the map, it suggests nothing of the sort! http://www.metoffice...st_weather.html Are they just covering all options? And yes Mark, definitely showed showers penetrating south, almost reaching Birmingham. Will be interesting radar watching on Sunday.
  3. BBC forecasts that I have seen certainly show showers getting into our area.
  4. The great thing about those types of situations is that we are usually south enough to be within the precipitation, but not so far south that we are out of the cold air. But any snow that falls on Sunday will stick around for a while that's for sure.
  5. I am only a complete amateur, but I will give a forecast a go. The high resolution NMM model from Netweather (using the Lite subscription, would highly recommend it for the winter months) only goes out to 6pm tomorrow evening, but shows this: http://212.100.247.145/viewimage.pbx?type=nwm;date=20091218;time=06;ext=36;file=nmmukprate;sess=fb71f08438db6eb6e9985f841bc08fe4; That is moving southwards, but quite quickly. However, it is pretty intense, and showers will probably follow on behind. This is what the GFS is showing: http://charts.netweather.tv/gfsimages/gfs.20091218/12/33/ukprec.png http://charts.netweather.tv/gfsimages/gfs.20091218/12/36/ukprec.png http://charts.netweather.tv/gfsimages/gfs.20091218/12/39/ukprec.png The vast majority of that will be snow for the Midlands. Perhaps a bit more marginal towards the south-west of the region though. Most place should see a few hours of snowfall during Saturday evening/early hours Sunday. Then as we get into Sunday it will simply be a case of radar watching and looking out your window.
  6. Agreed, I think Sunday may be a pleasant surprise for many.
  7. Just watched the latest forecast on news 24, and it definitely showed the Cheshire gap effect coming into play. Showers penetrating as far south as northern Birmingham potentially. Sunday could be interesting, with a couple of inches possible on the night before it could turn out pretty good!
  8. Shrewsbury isn't too bad, although the best places are north Shropshire, central and southern Staffordshire, Birmingham and pushing into Warwickshire. I know, we aint no softy southerners us
  9. I think it's a cert. If we get a decent NW'ly then the usual places (including me ) will be in the firing line.
  10. Have to admit it is moving further westwards than I expected. You should get something I would have thought, even if it is a few flakes blowing in the wind.
  11. Agreed about the temperatures. When I first saw the BBC forecast for today, it showed 0c across our region - and I thought that was for 9am, not 3pm! Going to be bitterly cold, especially with the breeze. Saturday night still looks interesting, although the Met Office don't seem to care about it.
  12. No snow here, just frost! Got down to -2.5c last night - hopefully my all important football match this morning isn't frozen off.
  13. Bloody Midlands...rubbish place for snow
  14. Anybody want to go down to the south east with some flame throwers? That will ruin their fun...
  15. Nah, if you run a radar loop you will see that it is simply rotating. Will barely make it into the east midlands, let alone the west.
  16. Type in your postcode in the box I have highlighted, then press "zoom in" which is to the right of it
  17. Even if we don't get anything from this spell (if we don't I will be bitterly disappointed), remember that we still have the rest of winter to go through. It is very early days yet, in recent years we have had to wait until February just to get a half-decent cold spell.
  18. Yes I agree, for now I think we should all put our locations in our signatures.
  19. I know I keep being negative, but I wouldn't get your hopes up.
  20. Shame Rob isn't a member on here. Best forecaster of the lot
  21. I don't think I will watch her again. I reckon we have a good chance, but I think we will just have to wait and see as nobody really knows at the moment. If has appeared on the GFS run after run so I think we can now expect a decent covering for Sunday morning. With the very suppressed temperatures and very weak sunshine it probably won't melt very easily.
  22. I know Shefali Oza is a terrible forecaster, but that one has to take the biscuit for the worst one she has ever done. Started at midday today (why I do not know) and only went out to 5am tomorrow morning! Absolutely diabolical. I could have done a better forecast than that.
