  1. After the rain cleared on Saturday it was a pretty decent weekend down here, and another reasonable day today!
  2. Indeed. Think back to that December cold spell. Imagine we had that for 2-3 weeks and then folks complained in the first week of January that the winter had been crap because the New Year period had unsettled and mild weather. It's exactly the same to what we're seeing now with the moaning about how "bad" it's been. I get that this is the moans thread, but I genuinely don't see what there is to moan about. It's been a rubbish few days but even today in the sunshine is felt pleasant. I remember as a kid thinking "wow" whenever 30C was put on the BBC forecast map! Our expectations have definitely been warped.
  3. Again, am I living in an alternative universe or did this June not really happen or something? The hysterical hyperbole in here is becoming laughable. God forbid we ACTUALLY had a bad summer. Seeing June described as "winter" is baffling to put it politely.
  4. The BBC used to add the odd comment about how climate change makes extreme events more likely, which of course is indisputably true. But now, any weather article is 50% padding waffle about climate change and not about the weather event in question. I wish they would concentrate on details of the severe weather event they're reporting on.
  5. If that was the response of trees every time we had a bit of rain and a few days below average then we wouldn't have any left.
  6. 30C isn't out of the question for Saturday.
  7. Definitely a cooler than average few days but it's been nice to cool the house down. 21C is a very pleasant indoor temperature.
  8. Weird that the BBC won't mention the name of the forecast provider (MeteoGroup/DTN) responsible!
  9. There was a huge EC upgrade the other day, was a lot of behind the scenes work here to make sure it ran (mostly) smoothly. Affected all products, mostly the EC46 and ensembles.
  10. Yep no getting away from the fact spring was appalling. But summer? A good 8/10 so far for me.
  11. It's not the same at all though, is it? 10-11C isn't exactly pleasant to be outside. Sunny spells and low 20s (such as we're seeing for many in the south over the coming days) is perfectly enjoyable. Besides, for cold-lovers, we want snow in winter. You won't get anywhere near that in double figures. For those who enjoy outdoors weather in summer, there is absolutely no issue with fine weather and temperatures in the low-20s even though you may prefer upper 20s (which is exactly what we've had for weeks).
  12. Indeed! If you live on the east coast and have been plagued by low cloud and fog for much of it, absolutely fair enough. But to see folks complaining in London and the SE just leaves me baffled. This has been a great start to summer in my opinion. The outlook, however, is a bit more bleak but certainly not without useable weather. It's been quite nice the last couple of days to be able to go to the allotment without any searing heat.
  13. I really don't get the negativity regarding the summer so far. The last 2-3 weeks have been as glorious as you can realistically hope for. Consistently mid-20s and above with many areas seeing storms. What do folks actually expect from a British summer month?! The Med this ain't!
  14. There are individual radar images from the dozen or so radar sites across the UK, and they are then "stitched" together at source (i.e. the Met Office). No idea about how it's actually done but yes there are automated processes which eliminate any overlap into a "composite" image. Trouble is, sometimes the composite image isn't the best.
  15. Really not sure how we're going to hit the mid-20s around here today.
  16. After a brilliant start to summer it seems as though we're being put back into weather purgatory down here.
  17. The much lower humidity today, combined with the breeze, certainly makes it feel much cooler!
  18. Pretty much perfect summer conditions for me at the moment. Shame it's going to be swiftly replaced by discomfort this weekend.
  19. Having a cracking chase so far. Got some belting hail and immense structure.
  20. Reached 19.8C and then dropped away, still not quite hitting 20.
  21. Nope, 19.2C. Warmest day of the year. Most regions saw 20C but not all stations did, and many of the 20C maxs on this map will be rounded:
  22. Can't say I've ever seen the SPC 4-8 have "potential too low" every day in late May before. What has happened to late May in recent years?!
  23. Another Friday coming up that was looking nice now looking to be chucking it down!
  24. I personally think some things are best left alone, especially as two of the main actors are sadly no longer with us.
