  1. Perhaps it needs to be renamed local warming, rather than global then. I mean, it works both ways right? If we are looking at 'global' temps then that should be everywhere. Which it appears is not the case.

Of course, there has been alot said about parts of the NH cooling if things got warmer in other areas. Perhaps this is what we are seeing the start of?

  2. So the CFC's we placed in our atmosphere were in huge proportions D.M.? Enough to measure as a percentage point D.M.? Did a pretty good job of influencing the Antarctic climate/weather systems though didn't it? Some power trip indeed eh? Little old me caused that? nah! surely not.......

If you say so. I wasn't old enough to buy a fridge, so it sure as hell wasn't me, but thanks for screwing up the world.

As an aside, didn't you say the hole was shrinking? But that when it was larger it made Antarctica colder, or was that just a bit more spin? Larger colder, larger warmer, smaller colder, smaller warmer, it changes so often I just can't keep up.

Anyway, its Friday, which means its the weekend, which means I am now going to have a drink. drinks.gif

  3. No Matt! The CO2, the H2O et. al. will all be doing it...But, so will myriad Natural Cycles?? IMO, it's the NCs that need better understood. And - we do not understand all of the feedbacks (maybe any?) either... biggrin.gif

At the end of the day - CO2 is a GHG just as much as the Sun is hot? mega_shok.gif

So, because they don't understand the natural cycles and because CO2 has gone up, as have temperatures, they saw 2+2 and got 7. That figures.

And just how hot is that sun at the moment? wink.gif

Edit @ SSS: Oh, and how is it fallacy that the sun provides 99% of our heat...?

Without it we'd never of existed. This is proved by the simple fact that there is NO LIFE on other planets in this solar system, because its either too hot, or too cold! But I see your point, it can't possibly be the sun.

  4. Of course, it could be that the CO2 isn't doing it. But you AGW lot just bang on and on about this amazing gas that somehow is going to be the end of all the little critters first, then the biggers ones and then us. Damn. I gotta get me some of that.

I was reading something the other day, totally not connected with climate or indeed the environment but a line stood out...

"Sometimes, people believe in something so much they are likened to see things that aren't there"

  5. We've had many more snow days this winter to last, and certainly more frosts, but one more bite at the cherry would be good! Then we can look forward to some uber warm weather! (Well, we can hope right?! - might as well get something out of all this global warming!)

Some pretty beefy showers today, but also plenty of sunshine!

Oh, and did someone say it was Friday!? :drinks:

  6. The sun is due to go through a polar shift in 2012, but then it did the same in 2001 and so on and so forth.

Basically, the peak of the suns output in each cycle. Not sure that will make it unbearably hot down here... one can hope I suppose :)

  7. Agree Matt. It will turn colder, but at this stage we know not how cold or snowy. The areas that will cop any snowfall will not be known until 24 hours before any progged snow event and in some cases only hours before. We've seen this happen a few weeks ago and last Feb - the detail was not decided until almost the last minute.

I'm sure if things start to 'firm up' in next couple of days we'll get 1st hand knowledge from Ian F.

Hopefully, and the GEM, GME and a few GFS ens throwing in the channel low again for good measure!

  8. ...

Sheeshh. So, we don't need the law, all we need is accusations and a rope...

    ...

You will note I said 'kill' not 'murder', so he is guilty of killing, but the trial would determine whether it was any number of alternatives that fit into the general heading.

Edit: That link is to a comment on here, with no links or backup to suggest anything. If thats the defence then the fall required is only about 4 foot...

  9. I think, and we've been through this lots of times now, but work is quiet, that you will find the newspapers (unless you read the gutter trash) generally report the news, not make the news.

The Head of the ICO said the UEA witheld information requested under the FOI therefore by definition they broke the law. We don't need to wait until someone else says so.

It's a bit like 100 people seeing someone killing his wife, he is guilty immediately and not after his trial.

  10. GW, why do you delight in things happening that merely might confirm that we are all going to roast and die like ants under a microscope?

Any chance of a little less pessimism?

Oh, and surely there is a chance, seeing as all the ice and snow is white, that they are doing a grand job of reflecting the heat back?

Of course, it could all be doom and gloom and we best all go out and buy 25 packs of paracetomol. :)nonono.gif

  11. Thanks, sometimes it's better not to ask looking at the amount of input used!

    Ok, next question!

If the input changes run to run, why do we look so far ahead (10-15 day+) and count our chickens, are we looking out for trends only?

    Haha!

Well, its only the GFS that goes out that far, the ECM goes to 240hrs and the UKMO to 144hrs (although even that is a slightly suspect timescale)

So yes, look for trends over the longer time scale rather that exact synoptics. You have to remember that the models are generally correct in what will happen, but rarely where it will happen.

noggin: The ABC...is that where the Odeon is on Sidwell St.? Or some other long lost place? I prefer the Picture House at the moment, get some good films in there... if somewhat outside of the box. Antichrist was ... interesting, but you get awesomely comfy seats and can take your beer in with you :)
