Hi,
Thanks for the updates, always an interesting read. Hopefully this one will blow during the day with some lovely sunshine!
-
2.4C here with a dp of 0.8C ... winds from the East tho.
-
The Hadrian Wall for snow; that fell down, Berlin's was knocked down.....I'm game if anyone else is.
Lets go for it!
-
Unfortunately the lying snow only affects surface temps, the upper temps are the important point.
-
What I want to know is, when they built the M4 did they mean for it to be used so often when reporting and forecasting the weather? This isn't the first time where its been the 'marginal' point
-
I think we are too far south for any snow from this, I'm sure the low was orignially progged for tmrw, its arriving this afternoon, the cold air just hasn't dug south far enough. Thats my take on it anyway... temp 1.6C (warmest for nearly 3 days) and pretty heavy rain melting all my lovely snow ....
-
Where about in wiltshire u from?
I'm down in Devon... land of palm trees and the like
-
Must have been another shower here, cos when I looked out all the footprints had been covered up... comes as a nice suprise!
-
Current temp is -1.4C here... with winds, albeit 0knots, from the SW, dew point still below -2C. ... tricky!
-
If the low can stall long enough for the cold air to dig south then I see no reason why there couldn't be a nice pasting of snow, if as I suspect that isn't the case then yep... rain rain rain. On the other hand, low expectations means you can only be pleasantly suprised
-
We often get out best snow from these types of situations, but I have a feeling this one is just too marginal with the cold air not digging far enough south in time, we shall see tho.
-
Thats put the kiss of death on it then.
In other news, two cars have had a crash on my road this afternoon... one slid into the granite boulders and while asking for some assistance another went straight into the back of them... when will people learn that applying brakes on a 2WD on ice on a 17% hill is always going to lead straight to the insurance company...
-
Well theres clouds producing snow here at the moment, moving roughly NE, so I guess Exeter should get some in a bit, if not already and then upwards and onwards for the rest of you!
-
Got some more light snow here again now, mostly just blowing about in the wind, temp still dropping tho, currently
-1.1C
-
NS suggested earlier that the line is not the be all and end all when it comes to snow, the latest FAX has the low further south which would all help keep the milder air away for longer, or at least thats how I read it.
-
Sunshine here... well, would be if it hadn't gone down behind the hill, but the temp (which climbed to a tropical 0.4C) has now dipped back to just below freezing, so I predict that my car will still be stuck in the morning :-\ Especially with any melt on the road. Gonna go stir crazy soon!
-
Some of the southern facing (ie got the sun) hills are showing a thaw here, but can't say ive seen any melting going on here, or indeed on the road outside (which never gets the sun at this time of year)
North Devon certainly got a good pasting last night, but so did much of the county I think, all in all not bad, reminds me of what it was like a few years back!
Hopefully get some more on Thursday, but thats going to remain marginal for here I think for the time being, hopefully the elevation will come into play!
-
Hey,
Not far from here, and there does appear to be a build up of pretty beefy clouds, with thunder rumbling around, so could well be!
-
Would that not imply the warning was neccessary?
-
More thunder here... looks like we might get a bit more before the end of the day!
-
Whilst I love snow, I have this strange feeling that if this 'exceptionally severe' event would come about, we might not cope. It was bad enough london closing at only 9.30pm, and most of Wales is shut down today. Hmmm. I'm sorry I'll stop being a spoilsport now.
Haha... maybe it'll teach us some lessons... altho to be fair, each year we usually get some snow that grinds the country (especially us southerners) to a halt and we don't learn. If we used chemicals to 'de-ice' the road rather than salt as in Europe it would be a start, and its all very well clearning the main roads, but if you don't clear the side roads whats the point? - rant over, just want to get off the Moor but the car is well and trully stuck! hehe
-
What a forecast for Thursday... News24 seemed to think that it would cover pretty much all of southern britain.
-
Well, just walked up the hill to see what the rest of the village was like, and what a snow shower... with accompanying thunder, its been snowing pretty much all morning, albeit lightly, but this was something else, visibility dropped to nothing. Winds veering from NE to SW but still icy cold out. Currently brighter.
oo and I see we have a moderate risk of a severe event on Thursday....
-
Well, having attempted to get the car out, Ive given up... it spent most of its time sliding backwards, or at best going no where... and its snowing again

Interestingly the temp is now dropping again, albeit slowly, dp is just dipping below freezing, strong wind from the East... me wonders.
Edit: Pressure is also dropping away, 987mb at the moment.
