Morning all
Not alot more overnight, but still snow showers sweeping in, and from the look of the radar could be in line for quite a hefty one soon.
-
Getting so close to here... just needs to swing a little more SW
-
Not spirally much here either, infact from the meteox rainfall radar Devon appears to be clear, with ppn all around us... go figure.
-
Still holding out hope for another good pasting for here by the morning... saw more snow than this in Venice over New Years... and you don't get much closer to sea level than that!
-
I'll open you a new thread in a few minutes folks
But it was getting so cosy in here... hehe
-
Just stuck my head out the door and its snowing again, not alot but steady and covering up the tracks from earlier, so who knows what the morning will bring! Only -4.9C now! hehe
-
I think it will bank up towards Dartmoor yes. If you see Kaz's post it's the perennial problem we have about being between two moors, but coming in from the north should see this hit north Devon and northern Dartmoor hard soonish (by midnight I think or so). Eastern Dartmoor would probably still catch it I think.
Thanks for the quick reply, heres hoping we all see some more snow then! Got the wind coming from the NW at the moment, so it might suggest something
-
Looking at the radar tracks north Devon is on course for the pasting which the GFS forecast all those days ago. The wrap around is approaching, and as it does so it should stall over the area (with genuine apologies to others if that does happen). This is the theory anyway. If it stalls then quantities could be big again. But we'll see - this is the sort of detail which is always hard to predict.
Hi mate,
Any chance of this coming anywhere near Dartmoor? That'd be the East Dartmoor, rather than North.
-
Heya
Any chance of TQ13 being entered? Cheers!
Oh and its -5.6C out there, so a little 'warmer'
-
Gave up on the walk to the pub after slipping on the compacted snow 3 times ... that was while sober, god knows what it'd be like coming back... its reading -6.2C out there, which does seem a little OTT.
How near is that snow! Just needs to edge a little further west and it'll top everything up nicely.
-
I think most people describe the South West as Cornwall, Devon and parts of both Dorset and Somerset, but the MO bundle a whole load of other counties in to there as well, presumably so they can be as broad as possible with their forecasts 'if we have a big enough area, at least somewhere will see what we predict' type thing... or am I being cynical?
-
local weather man said snow hanging round til 3amish but that ppn looks like its on a westerly track now and would surely start clearing somerset in couple of hours?
please som1 explain?
As the low spins it picks up extra moisture from the channel, and bristol channel, they could be taking that into account and would fit with what RJS said in the other thread - I would be biased though as he specifically mentioned Dartmoor getting a pasting! hehe
-
Heavy snow from approx 1pm led to 3cms in about an hour, since then frequent snow showers, turning very heavy again now. Snow stuck from the outset due to the max temp being -2.4C.
-
The wind has dropped considerably, but just over the valley I can see the next band of snow moving in, and its just srarted lightly here again, so assuming it is now slow moving, it could lead to some nice accumulations! Should make the walk to the pub interesting in a bit!
-
Winds now coming straight from the N, but very light, the snow has stopped again and the temp has fallen to -4.1C... lets hope that doesn't stall over Dorset!
-
My cat was somewhat shocked when he went out in it earlier... but soon decided he was able to kill and eat whatever the white fluffy stuff was and proceeded to try... needless to say hes now back in and looking decidedly sorry for himself.
-
haha! Cheeky! As long as it keeps snowing then I'm happy! Although I would rather be snowed in than snowed out! Just concerned about the drive home but fingers crossed it'll be ok! I want it to keep snowing as long as I get home basically!!
Cheeky... don't know the meaning of the word!
Know what you mean though, was out and about earlier and saw this coming in, much prefer to be stuck in with a beer and central heating than not! Always makes me smile tho when the country grinds to a halt... was up in Finland 2 years ago, and they drive on snow there like we drive in perfect conditions here... could just be taxi drivers tho.
-
BIG flakes here now, and very very 'fuzzy' to the NE lol ... no melt from earlier so this could be interesting...
-
Anyone got any news on what the snow forecast is for Wiltshire, pref Chippenham if I'm being picky!! hehe! I'm in Bath at work at the moment, on and off heavy snow showers but no idea what's going on in my home town - the Mother wasn't very helpful!! Bless her! haha!
I think the general consensus is that there is a band of reasonably heavy snow heading this way... wouldn't bet my life on it though
-
cold over any snow fields... my max today was -2.4C ... which means that the lovely fluffy snow is now covering all the ice on the roads, but the amount of snow on the ponds is quite funny
-
I've been somewhat surprised to see those convective snowstorms get as far west as Exeter in advance of the main band- currently not settling much on concrete surfaces but about 2cm on other surfaces. Must be a while since Exeter had even 2cm!
TWS, do you see the main band making it down generally to this area later?
-
haha, so it did make it down there... yeah you swing a left at the palm trees and head for the sea (altho im led to believe its not as warm - certainly wasn't in Polzeath last week - Brrrr)
-
Overnight low of -5.3C, reaching the dizzy heights of -2.4C at about midday, since then temps dropped again to -3.3C. Winds from the North or NE most of the day and frequent heavy snow showers since 1pm have left about 3cm covering on all surfaces. Pressure still dropping, currently 995mb with a dewpoint of -5C and 88% humidity
-
Its pretty localised down here, we have had upwards of 3cm here, but just the otherside of the moor (on the southern side) have had nothing, not even rain.
Starting to snow again here tho, temps have dropped to -3.3C and the pressure is falling away... quite hopeful about this evening.

Winds are already swinging to the SW and the temp here is just -0.4C, so it will gradually turn to rain at lower levels as the day moves on me thinks. That said, just saw a cracking forecast for down here on Thursday!
