Yippee - couple of big strikes have made it just nw of Braintree. Keep going north and we'll be in business. Nothing like Kent, but beggars can't be choosers.
And another much further nw about 20 miles south of Cambridge.... Please please please. Although God knows why — my dog will have a nervous breakdown.

They are as well! They look like there merging?
The graphic looks like when you're making your own popcorn - lightning going off every other second. This is going to be a goodie.
Come to Mummy!

Which radars the best to use in everybody opinion?
This is pretty good.

OMG they're really picking up speed and intensity. Hastings is about to get a pasting.

Those storms which were setting Le Mans to Normandy alight are now mid Channel heading due north. Perhaps I better get some kip now as in a few hours they're going to wake me up. We're going to have some fun around 5–6 am.

My Black Labrador lightning/t-storm detector has gone onto red alert. Trying to climb into the corner behind our router and the light came crashing down. I've already shut the bathroom door as his other party trick is climbing into the bath.
Some wonderfully refreshing updraft of a breeze has sprung up… looking hopeful.

Ooops we're about to leave sunny Suffolk for Hyde Park to see Neil Young.
Going to pack my rain poncho. Could anyone advise when/if the t/storms are going to Hyde Park hit time-wise? I'll stay away from the trees

The front of the band has arrived here now with light rain, I assume the heavy stuff is on it's way. band seems to be moving through much more quickly.
That's a funny term for Mick Jagger, or was it another band like Led Zeppelin? They're definitely heavier than the Stones...
Just bored out of my mind, nothing on TV, nothing worth doing today and I can't even pig out as it's a fast day on my 2:5 diet — might take up smoking again.

Positively autumnal here rain and breezy.
Noticed the hawthorns are loaded with berries which are turning red, in fact it feels more like late August than early July. Suppose last week's 3 or 4 days of fine weather was 'summer' for another year.

Last few days have been exactly the same. Starts off in glorious sunshine after a clear night, by 11 am the clouds roll in and about noon we get a thunderstorm or heavy rain. Dull all afternoon before the skies clearing around 6 o'clock.
Poor dog (who hates thunderstorms) has been terrified — won't go out, so we have to give him his walk in the morning. I'm a bit irritated because I got this lovely Lutyens bench delivered on Friday. Haven't been able to assemble it as if it gets wet the dowels will swell and it will be difficult.

We have had low energy white street lights installed locally, quite like them, anyone else got these?
They are a mixture of LED and CFL.
Similar to this article I expect
So much nicer that those hideous orange ones which infest our roads - if I look south, I can see this horrible orange glow from Haverhill - miles away. Do they have shades to stop light pollution?

Just thought I'd post these pictures of the poplars which line the lane — their leaves are this beautiful copper colour when they come out — yet the farmer keeps threatening to cut them all down — over my dead body… we even like the whispering noise they make in the wind and would miss it as it's 'home' to us now.
I took the photos coming back from the most lovely walk yesterday when it was as perfect as it gets… blue sky, and blossom everywhere. But not quite T-shirt weather yet — a very chilly breeze.
But the best was going to the racing stud just up the lane. It's owner is a very famous jockey of the 1970s and he let me see his (and his clients') newborn foals… three little fillies with another three mares just about to foal in the neighbouring stalls. What was so sweet was their mums who were obviously as pleased as Punch with their new babies. But very sadly, they lost a mare and her foal a couple of weeks ago, 5 weeks before her delivery date — she started haemorrhaging and they couldn't stop it...
But the foals are adorable, just 2 or 3 days old and rock steady on their feet — they'll be let out onto the new spring grass in a few days' time, but come in at night again. One was the daughter of Dubawi which is the best horse in Newmarket. Anyway I've got 3 future Derby winners names to remember, and no, I'm not telling you their names. http:////d321955.r.worldssl.net/forum//public/style_emoticons/default/laugh.png

The Freedom Fence man is coming to do a demonstration on my dogs tomorrow afternoon... as my Labrador is petrified of thunder, it's going to be 'interesting' when he gets a slight static shock from the fence and then a thunderclap. He probably won't ever leave the house again.

I want to know how you can possibly get 7 portions in. I only eat twice a day; veggies / salad at or with each. Wot, they want me to eat more? I want to know if they've thought about the additional CO2 and methane emissions. Ah, the nanny state and the law of unintended consequences.
Er, 13.5c, And the weather station seems to think that it's going to rain. To its credit, pressure seems to have dropped somewhat, to 990 whatevers. First time for a few days below a grand of whatevers.
And no sooner have I given up smoking and taken up vaping the evil EU is going to ban it!
My theory: They want us dead, or so miserable we top ourselves so they don't have to pay state pensions.

Well woke up early because I was COLD and sure enough there's a ground frost this morning.,.

Wow! Sleet here as of 5 minutes ago… it's our elevation and I thought the clouds to the North looked sleety or snowy as opposed to rainy…
Poor husband picked the wrong time for the dog walk - he's still out there.

Hehe. Nowhere near as bad as that, but the possibilities were way worse. (I fell onto barbed wire fencing, at the same time as I fell in the mud; I grabbed it with my right hand and cut myself in a few places, but it's done now - as I said, my fault only )
Tbh I'm intrigued as to why my original message mentioned 'dogs' - most likely I messed up using my tablet, but as I was stone cold sober when I posted, I'm wondering how it happened. Oh well, somewhat Happy Days!
At least you didn't fall into a drainage ditch. My husband was backing up with the radio controls to get a view of his model aeroplane in flight and fell in backwards.

Evening people
Ive been noticing how much calmer the atlantic looks to get at long last!
Now for the spring and into summer, it is an early punt, but I've been looking at the sea temperatures around the world, and there seems to be much warmer than usual oceans at the moment. I think that this could lead to some weird synoptics and affect steering winds and trade winds greatly, that could produce some unthinkable weather for parts of Europe and even the UK, + other parts of the world too in different ways.
I know I may have egg on my face at the end of summer! But I think that we could see some scorching weather and an unusual summer as opposed to typical ones. Perhaps a 1975 style summer is what I'm going to go for. A lot of high pressure, with low pressure over Greenland and to our North, with a Northerly jetstream. More to the fact that in recent history, decent summers have had the tendency to come in pairs, so if that is anything to go by, with 2013 being quite a scorcher, this one may well shock us all !
That really hot summer was 1976. We BBQ'd our evening meal after work every night for months.

I'm feeling pretty numb, my Dad has been fighting hard since August, had part of his throat removed in a major op including voice box, then intensive radiotherapy. Had a stroke today, the nerves in his throat are all burnt out from the radio, it's difficult to take it all in. He has the heart of a lion, and will to stay with us, for the sake of us, but it's not enough. Just trying to draw some strength from somewhere for tomorrow, to make him laugh through the reality (its what me and my sister do, we make him laugh), even though the pain is unbearable for him and us.
The weather, it's been cold, with a bitter wind today.
All our love and best wishes to you and your Dad. Some people are just so awesomely brave, keep positive for his sake... he doesn't need to laugh, just to know you're there is enough. And we'll be here thinking of you and your family.

Yes it's back to coats and jumpers here. Very typical March day in fact, this March has come in like a lamb and might go out like a lion.
At least all the baby wildlife had a nice start. I hate to think of them shivering in the cold and wet.

We didn't have much of a sunset here today, as there seemed to be a layer of cirrostratus near the horizon, which killed everything.
We've had a couple of 'dusty' looking ones here this week, due to cirrus and lots of contrails - whether low level pollution contributed to the look, I'm not sure, but do suspect it.
Not hugely colourful, but different; maybe the sort of sunset you might expect in a settled and warm spell in the Summer.

They are fantastic photos... the first one of the portrait sunset one looks like a painting which my husband's uncle did - he was a Royal Academy artist. Aren't digital cameras great?
So sorry about your cats legrandfromage — we had to put down our little Bella who was only 10 months old a few months ago (she had a massive infection which couldn't be treated). Only consolation was we'd homed her last January, but she didn't get on with a dog and it wasn't a nice house with no garden, so we took her back again... at least she had a lovely summer last year playing in the garden with lots of sunbathing

Hi Abruzzi,
Just to clarify the posts that were deleted and referred to as innuendo were posts with sexual nature and suggestive between two members that a mod deleted. Nothing nasty or serious between anyone. I guess the mod just didn't think it was appropriate. That's all. I have been on here all day as off work with a touch of flu and there's definitely been nothing in the nasty nature. It's been quite jovial.
Other than that it appears all polite and smashey and nicey as usual.
Here's to another sunny day tomorrow. Long may the high pressure continue though the GFS is showing a slight ramp up in the atlantic but that's T188 out.
Well it IS spring... all that birds and bees stuff going on outside. Only natural after a nice w/e.

A beautiful weather day here and still relatively warm.
Walking back from the pub, I could hear a chorus of birdsong, most prominent of which was the singing of blackbirds; in my opinion the most glorious of our songbirds, even outshining nightingales (we have some of them locally too, but it's not quite their time yet) There's a half moon now too, with Jupiter sitting prominently to its left.
I always appreciate the different weather tastes of people and don't criticise people's choices, but the thought that of late snow is something that's not appealing to me now. I know today is too early (and too good) to last, but it was a great taster for weather I hope to see on a prolonged basis in 6 weeks to 2 months time.
Feeling good now, especially for a Sunday evening, mostly weather induced.
I really don't mind if it's totally different from today and snows. It's what keeps weather interesting. I get bored with week after week of the same thing - even in summer if we get a month-long heatwave - I find myself wishing it would rain (a little). Same in that winter when the snow lay around for 6-7 weeks - I got bored with white fields.
What's been tough about this winter is the constant rain.

Well its been really nice here... the cats are ecstatic and so am I as it's the first day for months I haven't had to change their cat litter trays (maybe too much information, but by the end of winter it's the sort of daily chore that just does your head in)... They're doing their 'businesses' outside again!!!! YAY
Hasn't been exactly peaceful though as our lane has been on the route of a cycle race and every time one of them goes past, the dogs woof woof - that must be all they hear - a succession of houses with a dog in it barking.
I've got my lovely white Bob Dylan T-shirt on and some nice Rosa Mosa sandals I picked up in a sale a few months ago and haven't been able to wear... yes I know - very superficial, but today I feel like doing SA and just enjoying myself, I'll start the gardening tomorrow.

I'm intrigued as to the rumblings of discontent on the forum.
I know we all have our 'off' days, but I've not really seen anything here (in this particular thread) that's made me think all is not well, apart from the said murmurings. Maybe it's all going on with PM's, or maybe ignorance is bliss in my case?
Off to the pub now.
I think we should organise some sort of Spring meet up,maybe south of the river this time?
Which river? the South East and East Anglia's a big place.

A strike about 8 miles south of me. I'm hoping for that cell over Braintree. Come on!
