  1. You've been saying that since yesterday hotcuppa, please carry on, by the end of the day we should be buried in it... (the warm sector thingy)
  2. Right, that's hiking gear on the ready for my commute to work, no point mucking up my trainers and jeans...
  3. Went up the Peak District today, did not take a chance and parked up in New Mills then train to Edale (not much traffic around there...) for a ridge walk to Hope. Tons of snow, some great drifts covering walls, amazing weather, very cold even in the sun. Perfect winter conditions!
  4. Tegg's Nose(above Macc) visitor centre car park is a guaranteed spot chap...
  5. Wander around Anglezarke, honest! Doggers are everywhere nowadays anyway. Bit annoying when you come back from an evening hike and you've got some ugly buggers sniffing around you like a randy dog, it's nof as if we don't look like we were there to walk/run/climb...
  6. Lots of work for Mountain Rescue Teams at the moment due to people going up the mountains and hills totally unprepared. The two muppets in tracksuits and trainers that were lifted up Snowdon last week being the worse examples. The conditions on the major peaks in the Yorkshire Dales at the moment are "alpine", you need some seriously good kit, stamina and experience to make it up and down safely. With the colder conditions, a mistake could have pretty fatal consequences...
  7. I always find the laybies by Anglezarke, Rivington and Winter Hill infested with chavs munching on their mcdonald's and listening to cats fighting over a beat...
  8. Always is, best station bar in the world! Any Peak District residents lurking around? How is it up there?
  9. Excellent, I'm off to the Peak District for a hike tomorrow. Did not expect the alpine conditions of the Dales but should be nice and wintry up there.
  10. left trouser leging it down now, washing away the snow...what a sad sight.
  11. A lovely dusting of snow when opening the curtains this morning and a heavy shower about 15min ago. What a nice way to start the day. Mind you after two days in the Yorkshire Dales, I'm getting a bit blase about snow...
  12. Nowt to add in term of weather at the moment, unless you want to know there is a lovely sunrise over the Peak District and it looks to be quite a pleasant day in the making...
  13. Bloody hell, is that northern chip on the shoulder fest going to last forever...? Have a bag of chips, some gravy and get on with life...I come here to check what's up with the weather, not to read about the north/south divide...
  14. Long dry cold period over a short snowy one anytime, the main component of winter is cold not snow plus with the amount of snows in the hills, if the weather stays cold, that stuff will simply not shift anytime soon so if you need a reminder how it looks like, get a pair of boots and go looking for it...
  15. If any of you want to see some proper snow, go up Pen-Y-Ghent, the amount of it on the top is, well, quite phenomenal...
  16. Went up Anglezarke moor from Rivington reservoir, still some serious amounts of snow and ice left there, particularly in areas sheltered from the wind and sun with little evidence of much melt but slopes exposed to wind/sun are melting fast. Got to the top as snow was going down behind a cold, just before sunset and it felt pretty nippy to say the least. That's a ready made ice cover for next week. Some of the country lanes were awful, the ice thickness means it sticks despite the rain and milder winds.
  17. If Peak District posters could keep an eye on snow cover on the higher grounds, that would be lovely, hoping to have a bit fun in snow up there this week-end...ThankS!
  18. Seems to have stopped now, ah well, let's hope UGLY rain does not arrive later...
  19. No let up, another fun walk to work. I think I'm going to wear my hiking spikes...
  20. Arf, I checked outside 20 min ago, zilch, got busy on summat and now it's all white...
  21. Sale was frozen, so is Salford Quays and there is stunning dawn over the Peak District from my office...
  22. Salford Quays is in a snow cloud, makes the view out of the window rather more interesting than work...
  23. No messing around up the hills today... Better with pics...
  24. It's turned into another Evolution vs Creation "debate" GW, a spendlid demonstration in the sheer perversity of our specie to live in a bubble of self-imposed illusions. Mind you, nowt that can be done really, it's a probable consequence of being living organisme with a finite lifespan and self-awareness...
