  1. Had a morning of anticyclonic gloom followed by a few bright spells with a touch of blue sky this afternoon. Spotted the moon, briefly, around half five this evening, but the most important thing has been the fact that it is the second dry day in a row, hoping for a few more.
  2. Total to 09.00 this morning 26.7mm, equal wettest day of the month with 18th. Month's total to date is 160.9mm making it the wettest month of the year. Taking readings as 09.00 to 09.00, we've had 22 consecutive wet days. A lot of surface water flooding and some of the streams are well up, hoping that the forecast for a dry week ahead prove to be correct.
  3. Our local streams are up already according to a FB page and causing roads to be impassable. Hoping that it might all fade away overnight, but I shan't hold my breath.
  4. Overnight rain missed us, just a little shortly before daylight. 24 hour total to 09.00 today 13.6mm taking December total to 105.6mm. Last three months' totals all over 100mm, but still under 1000mm for the year so far. Currently dry with some sunshine here, but it won't last!
  5. 27.6mm in last 24 hours, lots of localised flooding and a couple of roads closed. Currently 11.4°C and not actually raining.
  6. It's been wild an wet here since 15.00, now it's just wild! Just checking the radar and wondering the same as Mapantz and jtay. All our local streams are up and the minor roads resemble rivers. It would help enormously if the council would clear the drains and get rid of the leaves like they used to do, it would solve many of our trouble spots in weather like this. Perhaps this photo from 07.45 this morning should have warned me what was coming!
  7. Squall line just passing through here right now. Sudden increase in the wind strength and rain hitting hard against the windows.
  8. 21mm here from 09.00, local streams well up but going down as quickly as they went up!
  9. Torrential rain since just before nine, still going and more to come, but there does seem to be a break in the intensity before too long.
  10. Overnight min was +0.3°C here with a ground frost which disappeared quickly. Rainfall to 09.00 was 10.1mm but we've been dry since early yesterday evening. Feels raw cold and currently 3.5°C.
  11. First air frost, just, -0.9 this morning, disappeared very quickly and rain started around nine. Was out all morning, fortunately in the car for most of it, but it was torrential for a couple of hours and the roads were a mess and there was a lot of standing water on the side roads. Stopped quite suddenly and I was surprised that there was only 12.2mm in the gauge and that the little local stream (renowned for flooding) was behaving itself!
  12. Seriously fed up with this grey, damp, dank, gloom exacerbated by the strong, raw east wind. Any chance of some sunshine anytime soon?
  13. I'm trying not to get overexcited, but there's something resembling the sun up in the sky! After the gloom of recently, it's very welcome and to be enjoyed before the nasties that are on their way tomorrow and Saturday.
  14. Last night's min was 4.3°C here, foggy start, slow to clear, cloud came up quickly from south. Spits and spots in the afternoon and then persistent moderate rain from 17.00 and still at it now. Felt much colder than the 12°C it got up to. Friday in to Saturday looking particularly bleak.
  15. Most of the shower activity has bypassed here too, just on the edge of the last bit which passed to the SE and produced this rainbow.
  16. Showers first thing, then dry until late afternoon. Currently tanking it down with a strong wind too. Wouldn't be surprised to hear a rumble of thunder.
  17. October 2000 here saw 174mm, preceded by 134.5 in September and followed by 164mm in November and 212mm in December, those four months accounted for over 50% of that year's annual total. Other October figures: 2001-153mm, 2002-177mm, 2004-186mm, 2006-175mm, then a gap to 2013- 173.5. Since September 21st this year there has been 178mm and only one completely dry day on October 2nd
  18. 33.4mm in 24 hours from 09.00GMT yesterday, add that to the 8.0 and 16.5 on the previous two days and it's a total of 57.9mm. Local surface water flooding all around and the River Wriggle is on flood alert....again. Of course, nothing in comparison to the 1000mm in Japan in 48 hours.
  19. Just coming through here right now! Absolutely tanking it down and blowing a hoolie.
  20. After yesterday's return to late summer, 17°C, dry and sunny, today is a miserable washout. Very windy, rain on and off all day so far, only consolation is the temperature which is currently 16°C although it hardly feels like it with the wind and rain.
