Does anyone actually know why the M4 is such a definitive feature in weather? Is it something to do with concerte/cement/asphalt etc retaining a temperature as opposed to surrounding locations and therefore acting as a "barrier", as I would make an uneducated guess at..?
Or is there a more defined and accepted reason? Really puzzling how it becomes such a defined feature when it comes to weather.. any opinions would be greatly appreciated
Same sometimes its hard here where i am to get a home grown storm in summer, i guess im to far this way but not enough that ,if you rely on convection here ,its neither here nor there ,luck is the main driver or unlucky which ever weather type you want

I had a covering but only slight ,and tbh north facing shade still has a bit ,but one spell doesnt make a winter ,Snowy one i mean , some people like crisp and cold ,instead of windy and wet ,the cold really doesnt dig down enough and its to much NW than NE and and etc etc ,its out run by the milder air ,but its one run like they say and dont put all your hope in one basket ( snow wise ) SSW is a shot in the dark at the best of times ,but statistical records ,are being dropped like flies, SSW does upset it ( polar vortex ) but because its so much warmer ,equatorial wise its so much easier to pull its self togerther again ,thats my opinion, it will like normal when we hit spring and not so much temp variation have a block ,bit too little to late

They just hate the fact that the SE does well for snow in an E -NE'ly
it doesn't though, not always, its so hit and miss they would not get it ,nw wind ,we sit here with half hearted cold with blue skies mostly, northerly, unless there is a front or a disturbance, not much ,clear skies and a frost etc ,what does me is ,in them scenario's, northern France ,Holland ,jersey etc get showers ,we are trying to get blood out of stone getting precipitation out of a north easterly ,yet every where else its bobs your uncle ,everywhere where there is an on shore theres usually showers ,bar us

Just seen a couple of flakes fly past here and im low ,140ft asl ,so crossed fingers theres a chance of lying snow on hills

Morning all!
Figured I'd venture across from the Mod thread now that we're getting closer to seeing some snowflakes in our region. Monday continues to be of interest with the potential for a weak Thames/Kent streamer to develop. The most aggressive modelling on this only suggests 2-3cm at most so I don't think we'll be seeing much, if any for most.
But.. worth keeping an eye on! AROME will be of interest when it comes into range in the next day or so.
So really you saying its a lick and promise ,as in wouldnt put your bottom dollar on it ,you see year in year out we and as strood man yourself see on a good year a week of snow a winter ..thats lucky too, sometimes nothing ,nothing at all ,few flakes ,on hills ,we will have a little wager ..if it does ill buy you a couple pints up the robin hood blue bell hill ,bring sledge then you can slide back to strood ,like you say its not marginal but minimal.,when its maximum its marginal ,which equals cold rain

all the many times i posted in summer about how dry the soil is and no measurable rainfall etc for weeks here ,is now looking like someone looking down end of a hosepipe wondering why its not coming out ,then bosh ,soaked ,then cant stop it

A late merry Christmas all, the weather has been so awful lately painful memories of 2015. Here’s to something representing winter in early 2024…
Merry Christmas, it isn't really late ,twelve days of it really, till the sixth of January, the sudden warming of the stratosphere is a wild card or dark horse i think ,if it comes off great (if you like cold and a bit of snow ) but if we isn't in right place at right time the PV will come back with a vengeance till its too late in march to do much at all ,just saying

Saying that I got blown over when a sudden gust caught my coat down Scotney Castle area this afternoon. Would have gone completely over had I not had a tree to grab on to.
Scotney castle what a place ,i understand Lauren, its windy, not storm force is it ,hope you enjoyed it ,i just think sometimes we or they overcook it ,but big coat ,Scotney ,your asking for it really ,only joking Lauren ,gorgeous place isnt it ,hope you had a lovely Christmas : )

i cant see here(storm bit )as they making a mountain out of a mole hill ,couple gusts and a bit of drizzle, we knew there would be next to nothing here but people whack it out of all proportion ,hope I'm wrong waiting for something that never comes it is a tease tbh ..(if you like extreme weather that is ,if not its all hunky dory )

Time for a brand new shiny thread as we approach Christmas 2023. The old thread clocked up 499 pages of chat and discussions since December 2021 - not bad at all.
And with talk of a possible cold and snowy spell arriving around the Christmas/New Year period, who knows, we might be clocking up our first one hundred pages in record time.
Whatever your weather preference, here's wishing you get lots of it in the weeks and months ahead!
Thanks for telling me blessed lol , thought hes only moved and not told me where the party has moved to
