  1. Yes the language filters on the forum would not let me articulate what I needed to say to you via PM. Sorweeee
  2. That is nice isn't it. I'm feeling a bit more relaxed this evening, Given that there is a very good chance we will all be able to get there for the start of the tours and hopefully tours 1 - 4 will be able to go as scheduled. I've a good feeling they will. Awesome to be arriving into a potential good setup also. I was chatting to Tom last night and he was saying that Dave Ewald thinks tour 1 are in for an interesting time at the beginning of May (apparently he's gotten in to gardening too but thats neither topical or relevant, but I wish him well) See you all soon, it will be a brilliant chase.
  3. Jez, this is turning into an homage to the Sigma 10 -20! But well founded, I have one, and works great with the 450D. Tis pricy no doubt though.
  4. Pat just drop the ) http://www.aeophoto.com/
  5. I'm tempted to get one of those myself. I built a lightning trigger myself last year. it didn't rely on the detecting the light from the strike to react, just the AM radio pulse emitted my the strike. Theory being that the shutter should be open even before the return stroke. Worked OK ish but had some problems with reaction time. Haven’t had time to make any modifications to it for this year, but with my limited experience you can’t beat a remote release at night for the best photo. Now Pats trigger kicks ass for the day time stuff.
  6. Hi Ross, This is the one were on about. One of the other guys recommended it (think MCT not sure). Had it bout 2 months and is a nice little bit of kit. Basically its a standard remote release cable but it can also act as a timer / intervalometer. Linky here... TR-90 C6 Took about 3 weeks to arrive from Hong Kong so if your in a hurry you will be able to get the RS-60E3 (you've a 450 right?) Canon remote switch from and good camera shop that stocks Canon. All you need for night time lightning really. The intervalometer just saves you the hassle of connecting your camera to a lappy when shooting timelapse.
  7. No worries Harry. I got the one Pat's talking about which also doubles as an intervalometer so I wont be needing two. Yes Pat its the dogs (pardon the pun) especially for 30 squid.
  8. Unless we get to a specialist camera shop on a down day you are going to find it very difficult to get one over there (I've tried). I would advise you get it before you go. I said in a previous post to you that I have a spare that you can borrow if you wish. Thats up to you.
  9. There will yeah! Harry, we will most likely meet you at the Car Rental place for the Terminal you land in but I'll let Paul confirm that.
  10. I said vacation 2 years ago and the officer found it odd that I was on my own, so he continued to ask who I was meeting and why. I eventually had to fess up and he ended up shouting over to the officer about 5 booths over that this Irish guy was with the other nutters from England on the previous flight, he didnt say nutters but something similar. Don't lie anyway, even if its something trivial and you are questioned further you may end up with a cavity search.
  11. Have done that route twice. Once for work and once for stormchase. Wasn't that bad actually, as AA flights go. Chicago O'Hare is actually a fairly nice airport. Now once on the way home it went horribly wrong for me but that was down to mechanical failure on the aircraft but that could happen on a single hop. I certainly wouldn't let the additional flight get in the way of a chase in the plains. Although its probably 2 additional flights for you Ross.
  12. WOW Pat. I don't remember seeing those last year. Awesome pics there mate. Nice wall cloud in the first one too,
  13. I'd agree with this. You guys are going to be knackered at the end of each day. It will be a struggle to find the energy to do anything fancy before uploading to NW Player etc etc. Basic split and cut functionality is all you'll need out there. All the fancy stuff can wait till your back in the UK.
  14. My wife calls me Tripod. Sherman lowered the tone first OK!
  15. Yes the remote cable is absolutely essential, I have a spare you can borrow Harry if you dont have time to get your own. A tripod is also a must, even the steadiest hand would end up with a blurry image with the exposure times required, unless your really really really lucky with timing. Your best bet is to pick up a cheap (ish) tripod in radioshack. Wont cost any more than $30, then dump in a Kansas field when done
  16. Who said anything about Stormchasing. I'm out there studying meteorological phenomena
  17. Dont know. Got the impression it was taken from one of the stream cams. but dont know, just found it a few minutes ago. Amazing. That would even have woken Ian up
  18. Gotta love this ridiculously close CG
  19. I looked into this and couldnt find any way online to retrieve it. Lucky for me I have the number given last year.
  20. Oops Im on it mate. BTW i find it very hard to believe that Ian got his in before me.... and if he did, im a gonna be checking last years bio for copy / paste evidence
  21. Pat I think your messenger is full From a quick google,,, this should do the job http://www.amazon.co.uk/netbooks-laptops-Netbook-DURAGADGET-warranty/dp/B001E601VM/ref=cm_cr_pr_sims_t#moreAboutThisProduct
  22. Just finshed modifying a standard laptop car charger so it will power (charge) my dell latitude on tour. Most modern Dell notebooks wont charge the battery unless a Dell charger is connected, easy enough to trick the little bugger into thinking its got one. Needed to do it as it caused a few probs for me and Ian last year. Looking at stormchasers S3E8 this morning it seemed to be a bit of a prob for Mr Timmer's team to.
