I think it is extremley hit and miss, and to predict A) where the precip will fall, and in what form it'll arrive is going to be very difficult. In saying that, it'll make for good lampost watching throughout the evening. Here's hoping we all get a snow event. Cheers. (opening a nice chilled bottle of pinot Grigot)

Being more of a 'shamateur' than you guys and girls, what do you think the chances of lying snow for Liverpool overnight tonight?

Icy rain at present, bits of sleet mixed in, but as usual, the Irish Sea doing a great job (not) of keeping us free from the white stuff. Maybe the drop in temperature might encourage a change of heart from up above.....

Yes, quite absurd lows over the snowfields. The next few nights appear to offer lows of similar temp, possible -f on the cards??

We've got a bit of sleety rain, more rainy sleet here. A case of blink and you'll miss it?? Might be the prelude for something fantastic though? Lets all join virtual hands and say the 'heavy snow prayer' (nurse...NURSE!!)

Looking at how the percipitation is trekking, we should recieve that in liverpool soon? Hope so, its appeared to turn to sleet now, with just light fall at present.

Quite weird here in Liverpool...snowing quite nicely, but flakes are all different sizes. No sleet though. Haven't seen such a varation in snowflake sizes from the same fall?

Flaking here, though it would take about 3 periodic 'ages' to amount to anything, at this rate!

Don't get this one - just watched BBC red button multiscreen weather (don't know how recent it is) ******************************************************************************** It's about three hours old, maybe more. I think they update it every four hours.

Good luck Blackpool! It's not too heavy now here, though those classic (good) signs are all around, including the settling creeping up the drive, although the heat loss from the house had previously kept it wet. Roads also white now, with the exception of car tracks.

...and you say it's not settling? It's quite appreciable here, only a couple of miles away!!

Good luck Stephen. I'm new to the site, I lived on the Wirral for 35 years, till 2002. Moreton never really saw much in the way of snow, but am off over again tonight, working. I played golf at Heswall golf course only a couple of months back..A lovely place, both the course, and the surrounding areas.

Here's hoping that the boys from the Met are wrong eh! Still snowing in Liverpool, settling readily. Moderate snow, with about 3-4 cms on grass (all grass rapidly disappearing) and about 3 cms on walkways. Roads had a thaw again before, but the temperature appears to have taken a slight drop, as the roads started to accumulate,(edges first, but showing definite signs of whitening.) Edit* Snow once again intensifying.

Andy, this main band is pushing a lot further west than anticipated I think......Almost heading due west now, the direction has changed quite markably over the last hour....You could yet see substantially more snow ****************************************************************************** Quote from the Midlands thread...the weather guys at the Met seem to have got it slightly wrong.
