Nice! Can see that one on the radar, there is also a cell just gone up around the Ayr area which will head this way. Quite a few cells seem to be firing up in the area, can see CB's in 2 or 3 directions out the window
Oh my god I think I've just died and went to heaven, its only thrown out three bolts but they were freaking close! The first one was about a mile behind the house, the second one two or three in front of us and the last one was only fifty or so. I'm glad I was watching from the inside! I think I need a cup of tea now. The cells done though its completely fragmented now, can see three huge CBS to the SE over by Renfrew Way. Few to the SW near Irvine by the looks of it.
omg! fantastic! wish i was there with ya!i would say the rain is falling light to moderate now! it was only bouncing off the pavements for a couple of mins
I've never been that close before.
Rains stopped here just about, but the view is getting good plenty of Cbs around, god was NOT expecting this today!

Lightning just hit the primay school right beside my house! Lucky theres a lightning conductor on the building and no damage seems to have been done by bloody hell I think I've had a heart attack! Can't stop shaking.

Lovely shelf cloud cookie!

Before the storm:
As the gust front rolled in!
The precip core:
There we go, I'm quite proud of my little downpour and how well my mobile phone managed to capture it.
I think I'll call the storm Bob.

I do feel as if the heat warning was needed, from a biological point of view it is not the heat that is the real killer, it’s the difference form the normal that matters as your body is acclimatised to deal with your normal heat climate. When you get those sort of temperatures at night and day here it becomes a real problem to older people and young people as their bodies are not as good at keeping homeostatic equalities level.
However in all honesty we do not need the level of weather forecasting as the USA does, we do not have such extreme weather events and in comparison we have a pretty calm climate even though it doesn’t seem like it. The high res Doppler radar they have is not needed here, as is the complexity and technical level of public forecasting they have. In all honesty we get what we need to know, the MetO I think are put under far too much scrutiny and pressure. They get forecasts right a lot of the time and as we all know it’s a hard thing to do to predict the future and they do dish out warnings but you have to look at the warning system they use. I don’t think people take head of the colour system, when was the last time they had a flash red warning? I can’t remember seeing it more than once in the last year and a bit.
As for tornadoes, well we very rarely get any that could be considered any way ‘major’ tornadoes, the threat for the mass is just not there as compared to the European Windstorms that come though every year. Which IMO are very well forecaste, well warned and good advice for their arrival is given by forecasters.
The MetO do an amazing job at something that is very hard indeed. As far as government funding goes, we’ll at the moment its not going to change, were in the middle of a recession and money is tight for every one thre are more important things than funding storm research labs for a country that does not experience very many severe storms in all honesty.

Could be some flash flooding, i think it was Ross B the other week got some amazing footage of flash flooding, i'm sure it was Ross B) .
Your area is prouned to flash flooding, but its moving through quicker now.
Not so much where I live is prone to flash flooding were on a huge hill side, I can't remember ever getting flooding here but futher up the river, dumbarton area is very prone. I was floored by Ross Bs footage I was on that road just an hour or so before the storm hit I wanted to cry when I got home and found out what was going on. I always think of that footage now when we drive down it haha.

Wish i could help you but i dont have NW extra anymore, i tried signing up yesterday but for some reason it kept rejecting the debit card. All i can say is that the main band is now moving NW. and itensifying on it's N most edge.
Good, means this should keep going for a while, I'm concerned I can hear tons of emergency services close by I hope no ones been hurt.

Constant thunder now, the heavyest rain I have ever seen in my life now, can't make out the end of the street!

My mum always used to rely on me for the washing too. Will it or won't it???? That is the question!
We had buckets' of rain yesterday, but today's just as sticky. Tomorrow Sammie, we'll all feel better!
We haven't had any rain since the start of this hot spell so about time we got something, the gardens partched. Looking at the radar though the part headed in to SW Scotish is intesifying good sign though!
-
I'm used to that happening with snow...
my mums looking at the radar and out the window going "so do I get the washing in or not? if it rains and it gets we your grounded."
FML
I need some rain make the humid go away
-
still not a drop here, radars showing precip right over me but I don't think its reaching the ground. Never seen that happen before...lol, its finally just starting to rain here. Its taken what, more than 14hours for the front to move the final 40 miles here... -
There is SB (Surface Based) and ML (Mixed Level) CAPE. Surface based CAPE is reliant on the sun or some other form of trigger or forcing mechanism whereas Mixed Level CAPE is instability in the mid levels of the atmosphere due to cool dry air aloft.
Thanks for the explanation!
Surface Based CAPE (Convective Available Potential Energy) is SBCAPE.Also please remember CAPE does not take into account a cap, you have sh*t loads of CAPE, but if you dont have a trigger its useless.
Thats the problem here, I think all the things are in place, just with this thick cloud in the way theres no surface heating to release the SBCAPE. It's so fustrating
-
Probably because you're under a warm humid air mass and have high SB CAPE so with surface heating thundery showers/storms will break out quite widely in Scotland.
Thats the thing thats bothering me, we've been sat under this warm and humid air mass for almost a week and we haven't seen a single peak of sunshine or rain. Just very think grey cloud. With this cloud cover and no real surface heating there's no trigger for these thunderstorms. I know I'm being pessimistic but I just can’t see this kicking off.
Only time will tell, for the west of Scotland its gonna be hit or miss, something will kick off if the damn cloud breaks and lets the sun though but other than that. Something needs to get rid of this stagnant air its driving me crazy.
And just really quicky, what exactly is SB CAPE, I know what CAPE is but what does the SB mean? There we go dumb question of the week over with haha.

...WHY have the MetO got a warning for Heavy Thundary Rain for Strathclyde O_O becau something to se that does not look that heavy or thundary...unless they expect something to blow up out of nothing in the next few hours am I out of the loop on something?
-
Same here *crosses fingers* it is getting unbareably humid here now ahead of them.I do hope that pulse of precip just off the west coast of Scotland will trigger things off as it moves East. -
Anyone think theres a chance for West Scotland, round the Clyde area, this humidity has got to go I'm going insane. I can't make head nor tail of trying to work this crap out myself - I'm not that good yet hahah.
Break or make my heart people!
-
Still grey, all foggy, humid. Not pleased.
-
Warm, muggy and grey, low grey cloud like yesterday and the day before. Grey Grey Grey. FML.
Too muggy wouldn't mind if it was sunny but it isn't.

1. The forum would die.
2. Everyone would go outside to take pictures etc
3. The forum goes back on line and everyone comes on to freak out and starts posting all their pics
4. It kills the forum and the admins have a stress related panic attack as angry forum users discover their home locations and decend upon them with torches and pitchforks.

You SURE thats the UK?! Those shots are amazing! The storm structure alone and the funnels are just divine!
Dust Forecast For The 2009 Atlantic Hurricane Season

Thanks for this, I always assumed from that I did last semester in uni that lots of dust would have been good ie lots of condensation nuclei! It's surprising to me, but completely logical how too much stunts development. Makes you wonder where that tipping point between conductive to development and detrimental is.
