BECO UPGRADE from GSW Cat 1 to CAT 2 beco.org.uk latest changed 'focus' of winds and 07:54BBC1 Weather from Matt @ Met Office TV Forecast confirmed gusts now reaching 50 / 60 mph as wind showing signs of strenghening. Areas NI, S Scotland and N England with winds expected of 70mph in these areas later today into Tues Morning - Amber Warning. He also said combo of high seas and Winds maybe a problem for South Wales. BBC News North West - High Pass in Cumbria now shut to larger vans, Ferry's to IOM possible disruption and trains to Scotland from Preston possible Cancellations or delays.
  2. Mornings. No wind, just damp. Mmm this is odd people talking about loosing trees in Wales, windows shaking and bins moving? Blackpool must be in a bubble or calm before the storm. I don't think this is going to be as big as people would like. Theres a 'forum storm' just here dreamimg of utter distruction and panic. A Netweather FI Forum Storm. Never the less its all a good read. Ttfn.
  3. Beco gone to basic mode due to high traffic. They have also updated forecasts. (beco.org.uk) had to refresh saved sites.
  4. Own weather station details : Forecast : Stormy. Much Precip' Pressure : Falling 1.0 mb/ph at 996 Temp: 22.8 oC Wind: F1 - F3 / 19.7 max gust Current: Cloud base 1555 Broken Sunshine. WeatherUnderground Link : IENGLAND288 Forecasting as Stormy - Hurricane Katria. BECO have updated the front page and have a cool hurricane tracker! Ttfn.
  5. Just thought id relay pic as it not showing credit to beco.org.uk MET OFFICE NOW ISSUING WARNINGS ALSO!
  6. beco.org.uk have now issued a GSW (Gale Storm Warning)...
  7. Not sure yet it may loose energy rapidly towards East of Canada or spin off towards Iceland / N Scotland. It could have an effect of systems near or over the Uk and at the most it may and I repeat may visit our country as a depression dumping its rains with a broken down construction bringing an unsettled theme. I see what you mean as other tropical / hurricane's become an 'ex hurricane' over the UK and still pack a punch. BECO are an organisation who moniter these events as an experimental service and if anything is to be said they will. Don't think the forecast models will take Irene into full account at the mo' so don't take FI into much concideration. Just watch the charts 48hrs ahead from Irene's possition to see what direction she intends to take. My kind of weather event providing no one gets hurt. We will just have to sit and see. Ttfn
  8. Good bye Summer 2011. No return to see just yet. You can tell the weather is pantz as no one is posting here... but hey! Is it me or does Greenland look like the 'blue' 850's look like they are now building with a light spill of a -5 moving into Iceland in FI +324. It's only August and I don't remember seeing this last year. (Im happy to be corrected). What a difference 16 days make... I know it's early and I don't want to cause a FI syndrome topic but as there this nothing else to 'gab' about I thought I would just post this today... and It's unusual for me cause it's on topic! (In future I will just link the images rather than swamp the forum) . Oh enjoy a wet and windy spell of weather for us here in Blighty. Looks like some heavy showers going for the SW and South Wales over the next few days and a hint of rual areas seeing temps going to 5 or 6oC at night. Next week looks much the same but thats the beauty of the British weather.
  9. Going into the late next week it seems a bit unsettled for the far north and west... Possible gales? BECO think so... BECO Might this be a sign of the Atlantic opening up this first half of winter? It does seem quite energetic but most push towards Iceland as we have a lump of High pressure bouncing around down south... so the GFS says. Im I wrong?
  10. Timo has moved SSW pushing high pressure back out into the atlantic dropping by 5mb according to latest chart. UWE holding out above Scotland Sven II long gone but his brother is still around but again dropping. This Greenlad High is squeezing depressions up over the atlantic high like a bridge sending fresher lows in and down across the North of the Uk. Look at the trio + of High pressures slapped over Germany, France and Italy. Nice hey? Ttfn.
  11. The British Extratropical Cyclone Organisation or 'BECO' aim to focus in researching and forecasting this area of British Meteorology as a non-profit organisation in the quest to understanding the weather we encounter on a daily basis. In this quest the BECO Chairman is asking any professional or amateur meteorologists interested in this area to volunteer from your home or work. If you feel you can help forecast, improve this site or may have something else to offer contact us today and join our community new page that only talks about this topic. www.pobm.org.uk Thank you. Not in competition with Net Weather.
  12. Yellow again and thanks for your votes. A complete list of European Windstorms with images have just been added to BECO and looks good... Any how as regards any look for an update on the Atlantic situation... unsettled as low pressures are moving north and high pressure seems to stay near the south of the Uk. IMAGE CREDIT : LINK Weds looks like a poor day with heavy rain from N Wales upwards with the larger falls across NW England say Lancs, Cumbria and Yorkshire. Looks like a breezy spell but nowt special. Will it snow this early winter like previous years or is the Atlantic going to 'open up' as seen in other periods? If anyone is more interested in windstorms than snow... post your view/s at this forum. Ttfn.
  13. LINKS Right up my street, would be nice to see but know one hurt please :LINK This is a link to Wikapedia about Wind Storms and previous storms : LINK Historical Link about Wind Storms UK Website on this topic :LINK Current naming of depressions or lows : LINK
  14. This topic is about an area of weather Im very interested in. I like snow like the rest of us but there is nothing best than a good Wind Storm. I have this link www.pobm.org.uk that seems to be the only one site that is focusing in this area of the weather. Please use this topic area as you please. Intro to Extratropical Cyclones. What is an Extratropical cyclone, sometimes called mid-latitude cyclones or wave cyclones, are a group of cyclones defined as synoptic scale low pressure weather systems that occur in the middle latitudes of the Earth (outside the tropics) having neither tropical nor polar characteristics, and are connected with fronts and horizontal gradients in temperature and dew point otherwise known as "baroclinic zones". Extratropical cyclones are the everyday phenomena which, along with anticyclones, drive the weather over much of the Earth including our country the UK, producing anything from cloudiness and mild showers to heavy gales and thunderstorms. Credit to Wikapedia. Snow or Gales, will the Atlantic open up this year and provided us with a 'Great Storm'? I will post more as I collate info to this topic. Please post anything you like. Oh and thank you to all those who vote and support this topic.
