Nothing but rain here today, even the ground above 300m had very little in the way of wintry precipitation.
I'm guessing the snow line must have been 400m+ around here.
I'm kinda glad we didn't get anything, we've had way too much snow around here over the past month!
-
Heavy snow falling here. Current temp -2C. Mild air seems to be pushing fast into west Wales so can see it turning to rain later on
Edit: Just spoke to my parents who live down in Yr Wyddgrug and its falling as mostly rain there and is frezzing to surfaces as it falls. There have heard a lot of emergency service vehicle sirens this morning, my guess would be accidents on the ice.
That happened here as well, we had about 5 minutes of really heavy snow and then it suddenly changed to rain.
-
Snow now the heaviest it's been all day. Radar shows it has stalled over us.
Same here, we've got nearly 7 inches from this event!
-
It's just started snowing here, although it is fairly light at the moment.
Anyone any idea how much we're expecting around here?, we have already got around 4 inches lying from last week.
-
The band is pivoting and moving back westwards?
We already have nearly a foot here it's been snowing since 3pm, I really don't want anymore snow now
-
We've had about 8 hours of non stop snow now.
The whole system keeps pivoting right over us, amazing
-
We got an amazing amount of snow from this event, and it's still pivoting over us.
I heard parts of Cheshire, including Chester got well over 6 inches of snow from this event.
So far, we've gotten 9-10 inches from this band
-
It's fully pivoted back over us now.
I think we must be approaching a foot now, probably 11.5 inches.
Anyone that is around North Wales, avoid the horseshoe pass route, it is closed.
-
I've heard reports that Chester has over 10 inches of snow O_o
Can anyone confirm this?
I could believe it, since we've got just around a foot here now!
-
Finally!, it looks as if the precipitation is starting to fizzle out now.
The current depth is 11 inches, about 9 inches fell from 14:00 - 20:00.
There are drifts up the sides of the roads that are well over a foot.
It will be highly interesting to see the amount that fell on the Horseshoe Pass
-
It's still snowing here, 10.5 inches and counting.
-
sure is amazing. Had another 3 inches early this morning, and another 7-8 inches this afternoon. Some of the drifts are very very deep now. I got stuck in my Nissan Navara 2.5 litre diesel for the first time earlier. Neighbour in his tractor had to pull me out of a drift, all ood fun. Although we have had 2 power cuts, but got plenty of chopped logs and fuel for the generator.
Yeah the roads are really deadly now, I wouldn't even dare going outside to drive in it.
The scary part is that it looks as if we're only half way through the band, it seems to be pivoting right over this area as it's moving south.
At this rate, we could possibly see a foot of snow O_o
-
had about 3 inch of snow here in north wales 2day, is that the end of it ? or more to come??
If you're on the north coast, quite possibly yes.
-
Is it pivoting to miss me???
If so, gutted.
I doubt you'll be left with nothing though.
This band has dropped about 7 inches of snow on me at the moment
-
Haha amazing weather here..
We're up to around 8 inches here at the moment, keep it comin'!
-
Currently -1.2C and heavy snow just began falling!
Hoping to top the 6" depth here as there is currently over a foot lying on the higher ground around us.
-
We've got about 3 inches here.. well over a foot on top of the hills!
We've yet to get any snow yet from this band.
Bring on the mild weather!
-
Wow.. a red "take action" warning out for you people..
I can definitely say i'm jealous
-
It's just very light graupel here..
Kinda random, I didn't expect anything..
-
Right just looked at the Metoffice reports- Shawbury reached 4.6C this afternoon (so probably was 5 in Shrewsbury) while Leek Thorncliffe was 0.0 at the same time. There is only 30 miles between them and about 220m altitude difference. 4.6C in 200m??? That can't be a normal lapse rate- comes to about 18C per km!
Haha, that's about 3 times the average lapse rate, interesting!

Only a few miles east here in Wrexham town we have had hardly no snow over the whole period.........only a smattering a few days ago that soon rained away.
Yeah, just shows what a small amount of difference in elevation and location can have on the precipitation type.
During tuesday, it was a similar scenario, it started out as rain and turned to snow in the early hours, although we only got about an inch from it. If you were to walk for 15 minutes up into the hills they got between 8-12 inches of snow at about 300m elevation!
-
It initially started out as sleet, then turned to heavy snow around 3:30pm.
The roads are absolutely atrocious here
-
There's not really that much snow here at low levels either, only around a cm or two and it's just sleety rain now.
I've just been up to the top of the hills around us and there is easily a foot of snow up there already with blizzard like conditions, It will be really interesting to see how much snow there is over the tops by tomorrow afternoon!
I really do feel sorry for whoever lives above 300m, there are no roads anymore, conditions are deadly.
-
Very interesting weather here, we're right on the transition zone between snow/sleet/rain.
You literally have to walk up the hill for 3 minutes and it's snowing there.
We've currently got about 2cms of lying snow, however it is starting to thaw with the sleety mix we're getting at the moment.
The proper snow seems to be falling above 300m.
