  1. Heavy snow falling here. Current temp -2C. Mild air seems to be pushing fast into west Wales so can see it turning to rain later on

Edit: Just spoke to my parents who live down in Yr Wyddgrug and its falling as mostly rain there and is frezzing to surfaces as it falls. There have heard a lot of emergency service vehicle sirens this morning, my guess would be accidents on the ice.

That happened here as well, we had about 5 minutes of really heavy snow and then it suddenly changed to rain.

  2. sure is amazing. Had another 3 inches early this morning, and another 7-8 inches this afternoon. Some of the drifts are very very deep now. I got stuck in my Nissan Navara 2.5 litre diesel for the first time earlier. Neighbour in his tractor had to pull me out of a drift, all ood fun. Although we have had 2 power cuts, but got plenty of chopped logs and fuel for the generator.

Yeah the roads are really deadly now, I wouldn't even dare going outside to drive in it.

The scary part is that it looks as if we're only half way through the band, it seems to be pivoting right over this area as it's moving south.

At this rate, we could possibly see a foot of snow O_o

  3. Right just looked at the Metoffice reports- Shawbury reached 4.6C this afternoon (so probably was 5 in Shrewsbury) while Leek Thorncliffe was 0.0 at the same time. There is only 30 miles between them and about 220m altitude difference. 4.6C in 200m??? That can't be a normal lapse rate- comes to about 18C per km!

Haha, that's about 3 times the average lapse rate, interesting!

  4. Only a few miles east here in Wrexham town we have had hardly no snow over the whole period.........only a smattering a few days ago that soon rained away.

Yeah, just shows what a small amount of difference in elevation and location can have on the precipitation type.

During tuesday, it was a similar scenario, it started out as rain and turned to snow in the early hours, although we only got about an inch from it. If you were to walk for 15 minutes up into the hills they got between 8-12 inches of snow at about 300m elevation! mellow.gif

  5. There's not really that much snow here at low levels either, only around a cm or two and it's just sleety rain now.

I've just been up to the top of the hills around us and there is easily a foot of snow up there already with blizzard like conditions, It will be really interesting to see how much snow there is over the tops by tomorrow afternoon! cold.gif

I really do feel sorry for whoever lives above 300m, there are no roads anymore, conditions are deadly.

  6. Very interesting weather here, we're right on the transition zone between snow/sleet/rain.

You literally have to walk up the hill for 3 minutes and it's snowing there.

We've currently got about 2cms of lying snow, however it is starting to thaw with the sleety mix we're getting at the moment.

The proper snow seems to be falling above 300m.
