  1. GFS shows a harder frost tonight,we do have colder upper air now max of 2.7c here mildest day since January 30th. :o

    http://91.121.93.17/pics/Rtavn1817.png

1.1c now and total cloudy, snow top feels on the crusty side, doesn`t look like any thawing or freezing at the moment,it was still dripping off the roof from underneath.

Exactly the same here, except it's a little colder now and down to 0.4C

I'm amazed that tomorrow we will have had a full week of snow cover, that is over an inch :)

I reckon that the +400m high ground around us will have well over a foot of snow now, as absolutely no air thawing has happened as the temperature has remained below zero for over a week.

  2. In the past this setup have brought heavy snow here, temps cold enough for snow, and the wind off the Irish sea bringing precipitation and too far away from the sea to warm the temps up too much, 3-4 inches have occurred from this set-up (Nov 05 and Mar 06), although normally we would tend to have a severe weather warning out, so seems unlikely to have anywhere near that much this time, a dusting seems far more likely.

Was that the period when areas in Cheshire and North Wales got over a foot of snow?

I think that was sometime in March 2006, I remember our work place closed for the day.

I honestly thought that was frontal snow, as I recall it thawed dramatically later on in the day as the mild air moved in behind it.

  3. Big Bump over Northern Snowdonia has given us really heavy snow this evening - adding another cm on top of our 13cm - But that has cleared now with temperatures hovering around -2.2C

Kinda annoying, that area just missed us about 5 miles to the west, we just got a few flurries in the air.

Hopefully we will get alot more showers during the early hours and into tomorrow morning.

I want to wake up to another inch on top of what we've already got :D

  4. Well I'll be ............ just looked outside and it was snowing steadily AND settling, this at an air temp of 1.8C

Stopped now, it was just a shower from looking at the radar, but more seem to be coming down from the north.

Weird weather - last night with a temp of 1.1C it snowed but didn't settle, but now at a temp of 1.8C it snows AND settles.

Just when you think you understand all the snow mechanics it goes and surprises you!

BTW, I live in the Carmarthen area.

I think anywhere in West and North Wales could see a few showers tonight.

We've been having snow showers since 4pm, we already have a nice new covering on top of the previous snow cover.

It's like living in ski resort up here, it's continuely building its depth everyday.

  5. Light / Moderate Snow has fallen since 2pm leaving another layer on top of the 5inch snow that's already there! Still light snow flakes. Not really happy with the media here in Wales, you wouldnt think that the snow has fallen apart for Merthyr Tudfil and Cardiff! Here in North West Wales our village hasn't seen bus service for two days, had 5inch of snow, 8inch Drifts, No Primary School since Monday (that makes it 4days off now), and yet BBC Wales said on Tuesday morning that the North West and Gwynedd hadn't seen a single flake! Maybe our population is lower than the rest of Wales but that dosen't make it right to totally forget us, Get your facts right first BBC!

Temperature now at -0.2C with light snow - Looking out for Heavy Snow again Monday Night - Hope no snow is forecast in Preston on Sunday, got a brass band contest at the Guild Hall!!

Is there a faster way to upload photos into NetWeather!?

I know what you mean, similar story here!

We've had a ridiculous amount of snow around here too, especially over the hills and high routes (Horseshoe Pass, etc)

  6. Happy days here in North Wales, we've had nearly 10 hours of light snow, absolutely no thaw!

Took a trek up to the hills around me, there were drifts of snow with depths of well around 4-5ft.

I will be going back up there tomorrow, I will take some photos :D

Hoping for a little from this front, doubt it will reach this far north however, good luck tonight people!

  7. I know you're all getting excited in Bristol, but looking at the Radar I can't see how you're going to get that much accumulation? I would've thought it'll end up a bit further north.. The precipitation looks too far east to hit bristol later on.. I could be wrong.. Just my take on looking at the radar.

The centre of the low pressure is currently located west of france, the precipitation is now starting to swing around it and track N/W.

The west will do VERY well tonight :D

Stop worrying, look at the radar carefully!

  8. I decided to take a New Year's stroll up and around the hills surrounding Llangollen. The town itself only had a regular frost with temperatures around -4C, however when I started to move up to high ground, I was surprised to find the visibility dropping, freezing fog setting in, as well as rather gusty winds behind it!

Spectacular scenes from around the hills, somewhat of an arctic feel!, with really thick hoar frost developing, chiefly above 300m.

From a distance, one might be mistaken for thinking this is actually snow, with some of the frost being over an inch thick, as well as the frost falling off the branches and depositing on the roads, giving a covering of over a centremetre of ice in places.

The temperature was around -5.9C when I was out trekking, with a significant windchill factor of -14C!

For these reasons, I only made it up to around 400m, I had to turn around, however I would have liked to have seen what it was like further up towards the Berwyn Mountains.

    Enjoy!
