Yes, I thought the same. I think people were hurrying too much, getting impatient in the inevitable traffic that always arrives with wet weather, especially if they were stuck behind drivers that tried not to go through a flooded intersection at all then realised they had no alternative, the one behind speeds up to get through the orange traffic light, another one jumps in behind dashing through a red and off they go, way too fast, covering pedestrians. One school girl got soaked but then didn't move away from the edge of the pavement right next to the deepest flooding where multiple cars always pass at speed. A really unpleasant morning out there. Much clearer now.

I've been away since the weekend, but finding it somewhat sluggish. Got this message, sorry if it's already been dealt with... And it won't let me upload the screenshot! Something about cloudflare. Edit: it's let me upload it now.

It was a very bumpy final 30 minutes or so flying into Gatwick this afternoon through the storms over northern France and the Channel. On our way out to Verona on Sunday, quite a lot of flooding was visible over southern counties. I took this pic from the plane, possibly around Hastings but I'm not sure. Is that flood water running off into the sea... or something else...? Edit: bottom left corner creating a swirl towards the middle is the bit I'm asking about.

Same, I find them very difficult sleeping in the attic with so much noise, it always sounds as if the roof might come off! I'm still hoping for a shift south and just a standard, stormy day in this area; but as others have said, it feels it could go a number of ways, especially with those small pockets of strong winds showing on some of the charts now that could bring unexpected surprises where they may not be anticipated. Also, there's scaffolding all over the house opposite ours right up over the roof, which I'm sure is safe, but....

Loud rumbles here, lightning across the sky to our west and lights flickering. Some absolutely torrential pulses coming through. -
Sorry to hear it's so bad for you:( I've had to stop with vaccinations as I get such bad reactions - usually severe headaches for a couple of weeks - I've submitted a yellow card report twice. If you are prone to intolerances to certain foods, cosmetic products, etc, then the headaches seem much more likely. Get better soon.

Ah yes, I remember, the big white balls... missus:) We can see the top of Troodos and the military places, plus when it's snow-covered, from our house; the snow line sometimes reaches the valley opposite us in the depths of winter. I suspect the half-term holidaymakers are having a lovely week of heat and sunshine at the moment over there. And to keep on-topic, a cloudy day here, early-mid teens temperature-wise.

Just catching up after a week away in Cyprus. And what a week it has been for everyone here, from frost, zero degrees and, I understand snow, to warm, clear, autumn days and now really terrible flooding. After a difficult week in Cyprus (elderly mother-in-law, who lives there, had a fall on day two, broke her pelvis and it's been a nightmare ever since), I was oblivious, as we wandered around Limassol yesterday in 30 degrees, that we would be driving home from Heathrow last night through flooded roads. Anyway, stay well everyone. It looks like less swings in the autum fayre next week with cloud, thunder if we're lucky and more rain, hopefully not enough to top up already flooded areas. And here's a pic of yesterday morning's Cyprus sunrise.

We went out for a walk straight after the rain came through yesterday evening and the air felt so fresh, it was lovely, uplifting in fact. And as others have said, what a joy to be out first thing to clear blue skies and crisp air. Loved it along the Thames next to London Bridge at 9am. By lunchtime, enough cloud had built around Borough Market for sprinkly rain to fall while still remaining cool, but pleasant enough wrapped up warm to eat outside.

Thanks @Snow tyre, I appreciate that, I need to look into covers (albeit for a mobile phone on a gimbal, but same principle). The weather, thankfully, looks fairly dry in the end for Saturday AM. I did a test livestream in this afternoon's drizzle along the Southbank, signal in and out through the market (likely the train lines above), but as you say, the last thing to think about is rain, wind and umbrella under dripping roofs and crowds!

Is it wrong that I'm grumpy about going to visit family in Cyprus where it's 27 degrees because it's going to get all seasonal and cold here, and I'll miss it? Extend the summer, I tell myself, that's good, there will be other opportunities after 28 October for seasonal weather to arrive, won't there... ?! Still balmy here in Surbiton under light grey skies. To be momentarily IMBY, can anyone forecast whether it will be wet or dry this Saturday morning? I'm attempting to livestream from the Big Cheese Weekender around Borough Market for my YouTube channel, and need to plan for whether I'll have to carry an umbrella alongside my gimbal. And that will provide a nice extra element to block the mobile signal as I jostle to point my filming camera towards the cheese stalls! Any advice gratefully received!

I just put on the garden light and the rain has just got heavier here. I'm certainly hopeful - my attic windows look S/SW, so fingers crossed for a good light show:) Good luck to all of us who want a fab storm out of this; it's the most excited I've seen the threads for storms in this area for ages! Edit: Looked out the attic window and I could see flashes to the south west. In this area, it's hard to know if rumbles overhead are planes or thunder! Aaaannnd a long rumble of thunder just crossed the sky.

I hope so, the bits and pieces over us so far seem to get much more energy after they head north east!
