  1. Great post's LS, I'm enjoying your analysis. Look forward to some more model up-grades.
  2. UKMO 12z & GFS12z were looking good for Scotland then the ECM was a bit disapointing followed by a dodgy GFS 18z ! Fax charts look interesting though
  3. TWS, I mostly agree with what you say but East/central Scotland and right through the central belt does very well from E/N/E or Easterlies provided the uppers are low enough. I think a lot of forecasters miss the potential for snow in these areas when the focus is always further south. The December 17th Easterly gave around 3 inches in my area with hardly a mention of snow in the forecasts. I also remember the famous January 87 spell which gave huge amounts of snow to Fife and the Lothians and all the way through the Forth/Clyde valley to Glasgow !
  4. Yes, some amazing charts today. I love the look of the Easterly on the ECM, winds from deepest Siberia all the way to Canada. Things looking rather interesting ! http://www.meteociel.fr/ukmo/fax/fax120s.gif
  5. Snow lying here since the easterly on the 17th Dec until Saturday when rain reduced the snow cover to under 50%. So 30 days of lying snow with a high percentage of days with falling snow as well.
  6. Not at all LS, I've enjoyed your analysis. The 18z looks interesting
  7. Hi everyone, also wanted to add how much I've enjoyed reading (and sometimes posting on) this friendly and informative thread. It really is incredible to think that this cold spell has been going from the 17th of Dec. My favourite bit of info/moment was when I logged in late on the 22nd of Dec to read that there was something brewing in the North Sea that looked like hitting east central Scotland early the next morning. There had been no Meto warning given out for this, and when I looked out the next morning around 6.30am I was greeted with near white-out conditions ! Well done everybody, cheers
  8. Hi By-tor, yes up here (Currie) it's getting really deep. Not measured it but my brown wheelie bin resembles Lady Pakal's avatar !
  9. This is a really incredible spell of weather now. I think over 12 inches lying here now and probably the deepest snow cover since Jan 87 ! The snow showers today have been so heavy with no let up yet. With the continued cold outlook who knows what depths of snow we shall all reach !
  10. Oh well, light snow is better than no snow ! Hope tomorrow morning delivers something more juicy !
  11. Happy New Year everyone ! Here's to week 3 of the cold spell . (and also........ c'mon the JT's )
  12. Evening guys, On the subjet of Easterlies, I remember the 87 spell which dumped a lot of deep powdery snow on Fife and Lothian in particular but even Glasgow got several inches such was the intensity of the Easterly. Obviously the uppers were much lower during that spell but the showers and prolonged spells of snow made it all the way west ! Here's to another strong Easterly
  13. Heavy snow here, although the snow fall is a bit wet but can't complain as that 's now 11 days snowfall on he trot . Not bad for the even larger teapot !
