  1. Morning guys and well done to everyone on ths thread for making it so informative. Who needs the met office ! It does remind me very much of an 80's winter as well. 8 days of falling snow and no real end to the cold weather in sight ! Merry Christmas
  2. Morning guys, these are exciting times ! The snow seems to be coming from all angles. After the 2 to 3 inches from the Easterly on Thursday and the further snow from the front from the North yesterday it's ll eyes to the West/North/west today. We had a light snow shower around 9.30 this morning but the sky has cleared now. Hope we all do well today/tonight !
  3. The model outputs are outstanding ! Just goes to show what Strong High pressure over Greenland can bring !
  4. Thanks Steve for an excellent reply. Hope we all do as well as possible out of this situation and for as long as possible.
  5. Thanks John for a very imformative read. It's getting really interesting now and it's good to get an experts view without all the upgrade/downgrade posts that sometimes occur on the model thread.
  6. Thanks Steve for your very imformative posts. Do you think the models are moving away from their output this morning which was showing this comming week mainly being a SE event ? This afternoons and evening output seems to give more of the UK a good chance of snow. Are we out of the woods yet .... ?
  7. Evening guys, some of these charts are incredible. Can any of the experts tell me when or how often in the past have we been on the south east side of an omega block (in winter) ? Also, someone posted earlier about seeing the elusive dendrite snow flakes falling. I take it this would be possible if we tap into the really cold uppers later next week ?
  8. There does seem to be a different look about the models this year. In previous winters FI used to throw up the odd Northerly here and there that never had a long lasting look about them. This year so far, the models in FI seem to be keen on showing the holy grail type senarios with huge amounts of Northen blocking and bitter North Easterlies reminiscent of the late 70's and early to mid 80's. Could this be our year at last ?
  9. Thanks for a very interesting and educational forecast GP. Can't imagine what this forum would be like if we had another 78/79 !
  10. Thanks GP for a very well explained post. I seem to remember it turning very cold just before Christmas 2000 and lasting until New Year with a notable Polar Low event ! Are your thoughts for December similar to your winter thoughts in your pre-winter forecast ?
  11. Hi Guys. Yes, the Edinburgh area always does better when there's an easterly influence. Most of the snowy spells in the 80's were courtesy of easterly or north easterlies. There has just been a lack of sustained easterly spells in recent years. Yesterday was a good example until the sw moved in from the south. Anyway, let's hope that if it does snow tomorrow hopefully it won't be followed by sleet and rain.
