Not impressed with the forecast I’ve just seen with a large area of rain parking itself east to west across central parts of the UK. Still plenty of time for things to change though and it may look completely different by weekend but the end of the working week is not looking great in these parts. before that it looks like west is best when it comes to sunshine with more cloud in the east and this will probably reach the Pennines at times. I doubt I will be dusting the BBQ off this weekend.

Chris.R it’s reached Bacup now which thanks to Dr Beeching, is something the Irwell Valley railway hasn’t done since December 1966. I’m just old enough to remember going on a train from Bacup to Manchester. enjoy your stay in the valley and if you get chance, try one of the real ale micro pubs in walking distance of the station.

Rain Lady aye it’s a typical double whammy for us, months of poor weather followed by paying the price for months of poor weather in higher food costs. I was talking to a farmer friend checking his sheep yesterday and he said he’s never known the ground as wet and the grass as slow in growing. Chris.R tell it to try a bit harder up here

Iceaxecrampon the radar isn’t lying. not heavy rain here but it’s wet and not looking like sodding off back over the Pennines any time soon. If the forecast is to be believed then hopefully something a bit drier this afternoon so the day might not be totally ruined and it will give me time to complete a bit of decorating that I couldn’t be bothered to finish last night.

Bright start and hopefully a dry day coming up but the forecasts are showing tomorrows rain to be worryingly close to my part of the world. Maybe I just need to turn our local wind turbines round and see if will blow it all back onto the Yorkshire side of the Pennines although maybe it will just stop over there as it would if it was snow.

If I don’t get early finish Friday timed just right and I hit the school traffic then my 20 minute drive home can take 50 minutes and today was one of them but managed it and with typical April weather. dry and sunny mixed with the briefest of heavy showers and even a bit of hail mixed in. nice again now though with a bit of warmth in the sunshine but coolish in the shade. hopefully we’ll miss the weekends threat of rain and it will maintain the same track that it would if it was mid winter and snow forecast.

Looks like another morning to scrape the ice off the windscreen; certainly not unheard of in April but I feel like we’ve had more early morning frosts this month than Jan - March combined. Good to see the forecasters are still pushing the gradual warming next week and the Met extended outlook is talking about warm or even very warm conditions as we going further into next month so maybe we are finally seeing the end of this wretched period of weather and can look forward to venturing out without the need for a jacket. We’re not there yet though and the weekend is looking wet and cold for some although for a change it’s borderline for our our region and we may just about scrape a predominately dry couple of days with the wettest conditions to our south and east.
-
As with other parts of the region, a poor showery day and certainly worse than anything forecast. Wall to wall cloud until lunchtime then a few minutes sunshine here and there during the afternoon and as seems to have been the case throughout April, a cool feel to things. A couple of months earlier and it would have been a winter spell to tell the grandkids about but as usual, no such luck from this part of the planet and week after week, month after month of mediocrity is as good as it gets with anything remotely warm and dry being continually just beyond the reliable. even this weekends warming (sorry approaching average) trend is looking like early next week now.

Heard the rain on the dormer roof when I got up this morning and although it looks to have passed through now, it’s left everything damp so nowhere near as good a start to yesterday and Tuesday. doesn’t look like a bad day coming up though, maybe a few showers but compared to the conditions we’ve endured for much of this spring, passable. just need the warmer air to push up ahead of Saturdays system and for that to remain to our south, then we may manage to get a half decent few days.
-
Another poor days weather, rain never really that heavy but the wet periods were certainly longer than the dry bits in between and a raw feel to things just to rub it in even more. the decent couple of days over the weekend are a distant memory now and I’m glad I managed to get the grass cut as I doubt it will be dry enough over the next 5 days. We may have just been spoilt over the last few years with decent springs and even last year which was a bit iffy had its dry, sunny and warm periods but this one really takes crappyness to a whole new level. nowt we can do about it though and selfishly, at least it is a countrywide crappyness rather than us looking on enviously while the decent weather is hogging other parts.

A much better day and weekend than I was expecting, especially this far east. coolish under the cloud first thing today but once the sun got to work it felt warm and the sunshine has been just about constant since. still cool in the shade though but it was nice sat having a pint at the side of the canal at Sowerby Bridge when we went over the see daughter and family. probably back to the usual conditions tomorrow and not looking very good for the rest of the week but after the absolute dross over the winter months, it was nice to get a couple of decent, if not spectacular days coinciding with the weekend.

Cloudy start but it’s turned into a lovely sunny morning now and feels pleasantly warm. I haven’t seen the forecast today but it’s certainly better than I was expecting looking at what yesterdays was saying. grass cut and strimmed so off over the top and down Calderdale to see the little lad and family.
