  1. Rush2019 same up here, it’s nice to see a bit of sunshine first thing and for a dry day coming up.
  2. A better day than yesterday with plenty of blue sky and only spoilt by a couple of heavy hail and rain showers early afternoon. It looks like the majority of the showers were further west than here which is pretty much the case whenever there is a NNW flow and it’s turned into a lovely although cold evening.
  3. Rain Lady aye it doesn’t matter which side of the GW debate you sit on, the conditions since early summer last year have been abysmal and we will all likely feel the effects in terms of substandard foods at higher prices. if this turns out to have been a freak event and conditions settle down into a lengthy period of good weather then some sort of normality will return and GW will suddenly become a positive thing but months of continuing wet weather has certainly played havoc with all aspects of life and I really feel for anyone trying to make a living in these conditions. Thankfully the dire conditions of yesterday should improve into something drier over the next few days with that rarest of beast, a high pressure system looking to set up shop around this part of the world but to me it looks like a drier but largely cloudy affair and, given the need for sunshine at this time of year, suppressed temperatures. I certainly cannot see us reaching for the sun cream and dusting the BBQ off anytime soon.
  4. Deafening 15 minutes of hail left everything white and my missus struggling to hear Emmerdale. Could do with the same again for when Corrie is on shortly
  5. We spent the morning stuck under the type of northwesterly streamer and high winds that would have given a massive dumping and blizzards in winter but nothing but disgusting torrential rain today. A slight improvement in the afternoon but another couple of lighter showers have just passed through in the last hour but after all of the rain, the grass will have to wait until things seriously dry out again. maybe June if we are lucky
  6. Not a bad day yesterday but now we’re back to rain hammering against the windows nothing else to add apart from will this crap ever end.
  7. Off out for a hour or so’s walk, will it stay fine. Radar says yes, skies says not so sure and as usual the forecast is getting splinters in its backside from sitting on the fence. I suppose I better take a jacket.
  8. Damp here rather than raining and it looks like are are right on the northern edge of what is currently passing through the region. maybe a dry afternoon coming up
  9. Rush2019 we really are lucky where we live that everything slopes and the water drains down to the brook at the bottom and although the clay soil never completely dries out, it’s thankfully never under water. I really do feel for those not so lucky though and lower down in the town centre and more so over the hill in Todmorden, Hebden Bridge and lower down the Calder Valley, flooding is still a major concern when rainfall is particularly heavy.
  10. Managed to time my walk from the car to the dentist perfectly with a heavy shower but it was dry and bright again when I came back out and drove home again.
  11. If you forget about the couple of spits of rain I noticed at one stage early evening, yesterday actually managed to be a rare dry day but today looks like normal service will be resumed with a good chance of showers at some stage. The day has already gone downhill with sunshine at 7 o’clock turning into cloud and murk within the hour and I can’t see much of an improvement from here on. hopefully it will stay dry for the walk to and from the football this afternoon but with something on this morning, I just hope that Sunday gives a dry slot so I can cut the grass before the second cut becomes as bad as the first one a week or so back. then to really rub our noses into it, a chance of snow on Monday and Tuesday. sorry but if can’t have it in the first three months of the year, I don’t want it in month four.
  12. HafrenLMP1 my idea of high stakes gambling is a couple of pounds each way but we usually do a couple of Haydock evening racing and music events with friends who live within walking distance of the course. as you say, queues for everything and and by 10pm it’s pretty lively from those who have been on the pop since it opened but if paying through the nose for warm beer in plastic glasses is your thing then I suppose there are worse ways of spending a decent mid summer evening.
  13. Looking at other posts, it looks like the east of the region, certainly this part of it has done best for sunshine today. With little or no wind to take the edge off things it’s probably the most spring feeling day we have had up here this year.
  14. 5 o’clock and it’s still not rained, could we finally have a daylight period without any rain or maybe even stretch it to a full 24 hours.
  15. And here was me just about to make the most of the drought conditions by cutting the grass. still fine at the moment but looking at the radar, i’d be lucky to get it switched on before rain stops play
  16. Three years ago today. Somehow I don’t think we’ll be getting anything similar today
  17. I’ve not opened the door yet but I’m sure I can see a bit of frost on the cars this morning. nothing unusual for the time of year I suppose but certainly a change from the usual conditions we’ve seen so far this year.
  18. Even by the standards set over the last few months, today has been a vile day. heavy, at times torrential rain since mid morning and for much of the time it was being blown horizontal by the wind. certainly not knocking the Met office but we’ve had warnings issued for conditions that didn’t come close to what we had at times today. thoroughly unpleasant is probably the most polite way to sum it up and I’m just glad that we had a couple of dry hours yesterday to clear the remains of the fence panel blown out over the weekend as It would have been scattered over the town by now. new ones come tomorrow so please can we have a reasonable day so I can get it fitted before the next mid winter storm arrives
  19. Showers since first thing up here with a bit of sunshine in between but so far it’s been more wet than bright. feels pretty warm when the sun does put an appearance though and the wind which was howling in the early hours has thankfully dropped to little more than a breeze over the last few hours.
  20. Quickly gone downhill here now with late afternoon dry and bright replaced by early evening damp and gloom. forecasted…….yes, welcome…..
  21. A bit of a shower at work this afternoon but dry other than with a bit of sunshine at times so with the weather bar set so low, not a bad day in the end. got an overnight in Blackpool at the weekend so hopefully it will coincide with the high winds and some serious high wave watching, something I haven’t witnessed for many years. just need the rain to keep away.
  22. What a horrible days weather up here. rain throughout the morning turned seamlessly to showers this afternoon and every time it looked like clearing, another even heavier one arrived and it didn’t eventually stop until teatime. even now it’s wall to wall cloud and our sunshine total can be counted in minutes on one hand. I’ve been looking at the weather for far to many years but even. I cannot remember as long a period of depressingly wet conditions as this one has been.
  23. Not a bad day up here, cloudy misty start but a bright afternoon and crucially it stayed dry so the mower has been out to give the grass its first chew and clog up of the season. even by the usual standards, this time has been brutal but at least it’s done now and vaguely resembles the type of lawn that a gardening programme would take pity on. I just hope that the next six months of cuts are a lot easier and that the grass is a lot drier.
  24. Sun dog looks like we’ve drawn the short straw up here. cloudy and misty with just the odd glimpse of brightness, hopefully it burns off before to long.
  25. I wasn’t taking that much notice of Mondays weather a couple of days ago but wasn’t the rain supposed to affect Southern parts with a decent day expected up here. now it’s looking like a Northern England and north Midlands washout with the rest of the country drier. Asking for a frustrated friend who, after a weekend doing inside jobs had outdoor plans for Monday
