You are doing fantastic.. reminds me of us back in the days of big Sam

Love him or hate him he is a good manager and usually gets the best out of the teams he manages, yourselves and our neighbours down the M65 being good examples.

I bet there aren’t many fans of clubs who can honestly say that getting shut of Sam was a positive move.

No chance of us going down.

We’ll still be playing at the top table next season but I think it will be a long hard one for us.

Beers going down well here, the models looking better by the minute blizzards til April now :drunk-emoji:

Not beer for me but thinking of opening a bottle of red myself.

you never know, enough alcohol and the crap I endured at today’s football might start to look better.

Yeah that’s pretty much what I meant to say myself but it came out all wrong. :D

  5. Calm down folks it’s not mad thread, sorry second SE regional thread.:)

our expectations are always lower here and if this latest severe winter spell turns into a letdown we just put it in the trophy cabinet at the side of all the others we have accumulated this winter and pick ourselves up again ready for the next garden path we can be led down.

The mood on the mod thread at the moment

Might have a quick peek but no doubt after the twelfth person has told me that the heaviest snow in the northern hemisphere will be outside the kebab shop at the bottom of their road i’ll call it quits again.

It’s much more civilised in here.

WTF my mod thread post got deleted in 30 seconds. Quite p**sed off now as it wasn’t that off topic compared to a lot of the utter tripe  in there tonight.

Telling us what you posted my give us a better idea on why it was deleted but if you dared to suggest that Fridays system would be better further north then you deserved everything you got. :nonono:

Had a quick look through the last few pages of posts in there when I got home from footie and unless the current thoughts of a Friday breakdown change it will be carnage shortly.

  8. All this talk of breakdowns and milder weather coming sooner than expected.

Each to their own I suppose but i’ll gladly take a week of bitter cold and snow before winter sods off for another year and we get something warmer.

that said though the Met outlook is anything but mild with upgrades in snow potential over the coming weeks.

  9. Good to see the region now covered by warnings on Tuesday and Wednesday and unlike those earlier in the season, I think that these will end up being justified.

i’m not expecting huge amounts but given the wind strength and bitterly cold uppers and dry air, what falls will readily blow into drifts and conditions approaching blizzard like will probably occur.

IMBY I wouldn’t be surprised to see something approaching late March 2013 which probably gave the largest drifts here since 1979 and even if the snow fails to materialise the winds and perishing cold will no doubt be one to remember.

meanwhile it’s all going off in the mod thread with summary executions taking place of anyone brave enough to mention next weekends low tracking further north and introducing rain and milder conditions down south.

Ive analyzed the charts this morning and im absolutely convinced we are going to get decent snow showers Ian- in fact places like Rochdale / littleborough would be my sweet spots tues into wed.. no shelter from the pennines in an east/ENE wind- TBH with an EC mean at 96 showing this i can see why bbc/meto are going for heavy snow showers tues night into wed-

    EDM1-96.GIF?24-12

That looks fabulous for convective snow showers into our region to me.

Agreed mate, I usually do we’ll out of an easterly and am expecting this occasion to deliver.

how much though we’ll see but forecasts seem to be upgrading chances in our region.

Embrace the headlines that will be made south of our region, there may be a bit of giddyness and excitement to start with but when it starts to disrupt essential services and stops people moving about they may tire of it by the end of the week.  We could think ourselves lucky to escape the worst of it.

Dodge with that last sentence are you Di Oxberry in disguise. :D

i know what you mean though, by mid January 2010 I was sick of shovelling snow and driving on icy roads packed with double parked cars.

1979 will live in my memory and if I'm correct all that came from the East and North East.. must have been over a 18 inches of snow in my area.. up towards Belmont and Winter Hill there were 20 feet drifts in places.. a remarkable sight

Quite a bit from Atlantic fronts stalling against the block as well but i’m pretty sure that some serious amounts came from the east.

oh for a repeat of the winter of 1979 although as it lasted for 10 weeks up here I wouldn’t fancy sitting down tonight knowing I had the full event in front of me.........the highlights will do.

To be honest it feels cold enough already dogs only got a very cursory walk around my field this evening I wasn’t going any further afield it was cold enough this morning. Need to dig out my proper gloves my fingerless ones don’t work in this weather!

Never understood fingerless gloves myself but you’ll be needing Eskimo standard issue ones this time next week.

I,ve brought a car load of logs down from the stables and bought 3 bags of coal today,  I am prepared!!

Party at yours then Sf and save on my heating bills.

seriously though, a strong easterly can cause havoc here even without it being a bitter cold one.

It somehow often gets very gusty as it crosses the ridge on the county boundary and i’ve had fence panels blown out by  easterlies in summer months when lower down the valley it’s been pretty calm.

looking forward in principle to what may be a once in a generation spell of weather but the reality when it arrives may prove to be serious and even if the snow isn’t heavy the feel will certainly be damned cold and probably even a shock to my system.

I'm not sure what to make of this forthcoming cold spell, yes the models are looking like the arctic has dropped south but the BBC weather page for Wigan has sunny/cloudy skies and temps between -1c & 6c all next week , hardly out of the ordinary (apart from the lack of rain), what do they know that we don't.

Maybe we know something that they don’t. :)

I'm going to predict now that at some point in March, Buxton gets cut off.

I’m gonna predict that if the models come off anything like they are showing a lot of places will be cut off including a few in our region.

  17. Nice to see the Met forecast growing for snow showers developing across the region as early as Monday.

still time for changes but at least it’s getting into the reliable timescale.

as for amounts, i’m with others in saying that we’re not likely to be getting snowed in on this side of the Pennines but it’s looking more and more like a potent cold spell is just around the corner and with no marginality, at least what falls should be snow.
