  1. And only a mile away nothing but the odd flake of sleet between the spots of rain. it’s refusing to budge and yet only 5 miles away the other side of the border, it has perked up again. strange weather.
  2. Just started doing something but it’s more sleet than snow. the main area with the bright echoes seems to have stopped at the town centre and is refusing to head any further east although if it’s rain, it can stop there.
  3. Just cleared the snow off the cars and drive and it’s certainly not slushy although not frozen underneath either. as for the heavier band of something currently crossing Lancashire; it hasn’t quite got here yet but looking at the radar it’s only about 4 miles away so I should know in the next few minutes but no signs of anything falling yet.
  4. At first I thought it was heading NE but your right it does seem to be east now so we’ll soon find out, unless it dies out of course. the lighter stuff to the southwest is knocking on the door here now so I suppose it’ll give a good idea but it’s making painfully slow progress and no doubt has already been taken over by the milder uppers.
  5. Very little thaw so far, even off the cars but it’s gloomy and looks like anything that falls later will be rain rather than snow. thankfully the trip to the Trafford Centre was cancelled so today is being spent inside putting the Christmas tree and other bits up. A week early for us and the outside lights were put up last week but we’re trying to get everything sorted before the birth of our first grandchild stops any plans in its tracks.
  6. Yeah with my greedy hat on I wanted more but it’s been a decent effort in Bacup.
  7. We’ve got a couple of inches of snow overnight and there’s still a few flakes falling so not a bad effort in the end. eyes then on the next system which seems further north than expected and brings parts of the region in with a shout at a more snow overnight tonight and into Monday morning. plenty of time for it to change yet but in the meantime, some decent walking conditions underfoot for today and dry weather to enjoy them.
  8. Coming down steady here now. still no more than a slight covering but a damn site better than it was an hour ago and looking at the radar, I think we’ve a fair bit of snow still heading this way.
  9. In our part of the world it means all of the ways that you will end up with nothing
  10. All this talking about other folk having snow and we’ve got snow. hardly amber warning stuff but it’s coming down ok and for the first time this winter, we’ve got a covering
  11. No, not at all bottom of the table Burnley putting 5 past Sheffield United is the biggest surprise of my day and annoyingly it wasn’t my day for the season tickets No doubt there will have been a few z list celebrity’s who just happened to be in the south lakes today who can star in the upcoming documentary about the late 2023 severe cold snap although most of the the programme will be about the three flakes that fell in the Home Counties
  12. Couldn’t believe the pitiful amount of coverage that ITV news has just given to the snow in Cumbria. obviously the wrong end of of the country
  13. Across most of Lancashire it can’t even be bothered to reach the Pennines, never mind try and cross them. It’s not often we see as dry a day as today from a such a moisture laden SW flow.
  14. Just going to say that the gaps in Irish Sea shower bands are almost filled in now so unless they completely fizzle out, even the parts that have had a dry day look like they will get something in the next hour or so.
  15. Light snow here at the moment but looking at the radar it won’t last long so time to switch the doorbell camera off and back to my Saturday night music watch on YouTube.
  16. So anyone driving up the A65 from Skipton runs out of the warning area and less than 10 minutes later is back into it. A strange set up and as you say, frustrating for the ever decreasing area looking like they are missing out again.
  17. Think we’ve got 1-2cm on our bathroom window but it’s 99% frost. There’s talk of a hose pipe ban here shortly
  18. I know there are probably scientific reasons why it happens but why does it always seem to be the same with UK snow that someone’s gain is another’s loss. US snow storms and those across Europe cover areas larger than this country and yet we are lucky to see a single region effected. tonight’s will no doubt be a classic example of this with parts of the region being buried while less than 30 miles away, it’s drier than the Atacama. It’s understandable that having 3000 miles of Ocean immediately to the left will raise temperatures and make things more marginal when it comes to snow but surely all that should help in these situations with more moisture available and increasing the size of the systems. It all just seems like a lose lose situation.
  19. Great (in the nicest possible way of course) to see Cumbria getting hammered and other parts of the region starting to get some snow. it felt pretty festive driving home from a bit of Christmas shopping with light snow falling but that’s as good as it has got here up to now. It looks like we will probably be just to far north here for anything heavy but I’d be disappointed if we didn’t have a covering in the morning. For those further south and more in the firing line, enjoy and if it’s heavy enough, it may just make my missus change here mind about going to the Trafford Centre in the morning. much prefer a few hours walking the tops rather the mall.
  20. Aye I got that feeling with the early signs of low flying toys in the Mad Thread. apparently the front is to far north and it’s really frustrating when this happens. good job the north never sees it’s snow chances “correct” south otherwise we’d be getting a bit frustrated at times
  21. It’s an annoying pattern that seems to have happened over the last 12 months or so where weather warnings follow the Lancs/WY border before cutting across into GM. They did exactly the same with a couple of heavy rain warnings in October so maybe it reflects the physical weather patterns expected or maybe it’s an expected marginality on the western side of the Pennines. on the other hand, maybe it’s the apprentices job to draw the lines and they have opted for cut and paste as an easier option. I’m not over concerned here as I am close to the warning area and have altitude but it is disheartening to see the same thing happen almost every time.
  22. I wouldn’t worry about snow crossing the Pennines from the west. past experience tells us that it seldom has a problem doing so and often peps up as it hits West Yorkshire. Its the other way that it often struggles but I think you’ll be fine.
  23. Just looked at the BBC one and it is showing snow on and off throughout the evening and into the early hours of Sunday which would give at least a festive covering for many. the last forecast I saw was also updated and did at least focus on a bit of snow crossing northern England this evening rather than going straight into Sunday. the Met app for my location has updated, by removing the solitary flake it was showing at tea time so it’s a case of now casting.
