  1. It’s barely reached here, a bit brighter at times but the clearance never really arrived.
  2. Just hope they’re better nails than those that were holding Thursdays
  3. Good to see the showers getting a good few miles in from the east coast Still giving up a long way from here and not even sure whether they are wet or white but it’s a start.
  4. Didn’t amount to anything in the end but nice to see a bit of snow falling as the back edge passed through. 27th November for the first sign of anything wintry is pushing it a bit up here but it’s probably a sign of the times and even the great winter of 78-79 didn’t give us anything until the very end of November and even that was a blink and you’ll miss it affair with mild soon taking over and then nothing remotely wintry until almost new year. At least this is a continuation of the cold though rather than a return to mild andthat a couple of rogue showers make it across the Pennines in the coming days. could be a few surprises across the region.
  5. Starting to turn to big flakes of sleety snow here now. 3.2 c so probably not amount to anything but maybe a bit of a covering on the tops before it clears through.
  6. Been woken up a few times in the night by the rain, 15mm almost since midnight according to EA figures. hopefully a quick clearance and a chance to get out for a walk.
  7. It depends just how much you want to rub it in a good dose of “the further south these systems are the better for our snow chances in the SE” while completely ignoring the fact that others up north then miss out or even exist and you’ll be on the naughty step. otherwise fill yer boots and we’ll let you off this time. that said if it’s deep enough in London to fill yer boots and we get sod all up here then we won’t up be happy
  8. Met app is having non of it for my location with cloudy and dry from Monday morning through until next weekend hopefully it will fall in line tomorrow.
  9. I suggest that anyone wanting snow in the northwest later in the week keeps out of the Mod thread at the moment. usual southern bias looking at a usual southern correction with everything of interest heading, you’ve guessed it south. not jealous of course but how much do I hate the phrases southerly correction and Channel Low
  10. We did the same a good few years ago, Jan 2013 I think. London for a long weekend with severe weather warnings on the motorway signs from leaving home until the midlands woke up on the Saturday morning and watched tv news of cars being dug out of snow across Lancashire and Yorkshire while it was raining in west London. drove back home on the Sunday and even up here all we had left was a lot of slush. we had completely missed a foot of snow.
  11. Don’t worry they’ve gone off mine as well so this part of the Pennines maybe missing out as well. They may be back again later and are certainly a little bit at odds with the forecast which shows some form of wetness on Thursday but after today/overnight, the Met is showing cloudy throughout the rest of the week. As for now, another frosty start to the day but unlike Saturdays brilliant sunshine, today is wall to wall cloud.
  12. Aye with those charts, even I will only be looking at a bit white on the hills rather than clearing it off the drive. it’s a start though and another 5 months of chances to go.
  13. I’ve just got one showing at 9pm on Thursday. going to guard that with my life
  14. As already said, a frosty morning but it looks like another lovely day coming up before a return to rain tomorrow. Hopefully that’s just a blip though and things are pretty upbeat in the mad thread this morning, certainly that cold is the form horse over the next week or so. as for the chances of snow and who will get it, difficult to gauge as the usual suspects only ever seem to push options that put them in the sweet spot. I would love to spend more time in there as there are some experienced posters who I am always wanting to learn from but it quickly gets overrun by those only interested in pushing their own agenda, whether it’s likely to come off or not. then it’s usually time to leave and this morning looks like one of those occasions.
  15. Hopefully it’s heading south as looking at the chart and as is often the case, it’s just to far north for most of the region. it’s amazing how the winter systems, certainly those with snow either cross the country to our north or south with our region feeding on the scraps that fall on the edges. obviously it doesn’t mean that we always miss out but it’s as if there are two sets of train lines carrying the fronts; one across the Scottish borders and the other around the south midlands with ourselves stood on an island platform in the middle, watching them going by whilst ours never turns up
  16. After 3 hours pretty backbreaking graft, the power washing is done. Felt pleasant enough for the first hour or so but as soon a the sun disappeared below the houses it was cold and quickly turned into a miserable job. anyway it’s sorted for another 6 months so time for a shower, change and hopefully a warm up.
  17. Just been over the tops to Burnley and the views across to Pendle and onwards to the Yorkshire 3 peaks were stunning. all that was missing was a couple of inches of whiteness on the ground but after the gloom of the last few days where visibility was measured in feet, it’s nice to see such a clear mass of air over us, The last of this years leaf fall safely dumped in the recycling skip and a bit of shopping done on the way back so it’s time for a brew and then power wash the drive and front of the house. maybe even put some outside Christmas lights up this weekend although I prefer to leave it until early December.
  18. I imagine that there’d be a lot in the mad thread frantically switching vacuums on to suck that lot south although no doubt it will do that of its own accord, or swing 200 miles further north instead. meanwhile for what seems like the first time in ages, a dry and bright start.
  19. Cheers, every day’s a school day. is that official terminology or Netweather forum speak
  20. Looks like todays buzz word in the mad thread is phasing. I haven’t got a clue what it means or how it affects what falls out of the sky but given the number of posters who used the word, it must have been on a buy one get one free offer
  21. Sounds like much of the region has had at least a poor couple of hours. Up here it’s been like ground hog day for much of the week with the wipers on whenever I’ve been in the car yesterday and today. Thankfully a nice long weekend off now and it looks like the first couple of days at least should be an improvement on what we have at the moment, not that it could be any worse of course. I haven’t checked the mad thread today and whether toys are being ejected from prams but I’ll sneak in undercover of darkness later
  22. Pretty busy already in the mad thread but things seem a bit more downbeat this morning with the snowmagedon being nailed on my some now looking like a cold but mainly dry weekend and little more. beyond that non of us, including the “experts” have much of an idea on what will happen but even a few days to dry things out will be welcome with a bit of seasonal cold and frost a Brucie bonus. maybe time to get the emergency chairs out of the shed though in case it suddenly gets busy in here
  23. Don’t know about that, it’s pure theatre when it all goes belly up although a good hard hat and an ability to avoid prams and low flying toys is essential
  24. Don’t know about other parts of the region but up here it’s been thoroughly miserable with alternating light rain and drizzle throughout daylight hours. certainly a lot more depressing than the official 3mm of rain that our local gauge is saying has fallen. A cold and raw feel in the gusty wind as well so although it’s November and has a reputation for being poor, today has certainly lived up to that. Last day in work tomorrow until Tuesday and hopefully it will coincide with a colder but settled few days and maybe a chance for some decent although no doubt wet underfoot walking.
