It kind of is a big deal as this is England and Wales' hottest September on record. This is the dictionary definition of a big deal. There is no bigger deal than this in meteorology apart from maybe an absolute record break.
I'd use the term "warmest" though.
However, "Hottest" reads better and more dramatic, i guess.

Might also have something to do with the horrible spring slowing everything down
More like no cold nights, here. And days staying mild or warm. No big deal, as it's only 2nd Oct.

For anyone who's really struggling with the prospect of having to deal with autumn and winter, there's a neat trick I like to use that works pretty well. Don't think of spring as being five months away, think of it as being 20 something weeks away. It sounds silly and obvious, but mentally it's a pretty comforting way of thinking about it. It's much less cumbersome than thinking of it in terms of months or days, just remember how fast a week passes.
Ah right, so wish one's time away.
When u get to 61 you really dont want the "20 something weeks" that you mention to pass quickly

Annoyingly cloudy, only a few breaks. Pretty warm though. Already 21c.
Just reached 21c here. Clouds trying to break up, but not really expecting much in the way of sunny spells today.
But 21c on 1st October, i'll take that

Speaking of buses, they've gone back into public ownership here now. I'm sure I'll be making good use of them over the winter months when the relentless cold rain starts. Now I can get a daysaver and hop between buses that used to cost me a fortune!
Our First Day ticket (all dayer) costs Β£6.
I'm lucky being just on edge of Bristol and near Bristol Parkway train station. Bus service here is pretty decent, but other parts of Bristol and surrounding areas would beg to differ.

It was lovely here, even people in shorts and t shirt, was a nice comfy warm out.
It was not bad here, either. Sunny and some clouds, around 19c, but breezy.
We popped down to Bristol dockside. Hopped on the 'fast' bus for Β£3.80 return each. Fish n Chips at Salt n Malt, then over to the Waterside bars for a few bevvies.Β
A decent late Sept day; long may the settled, warmish weather continue well into Autumn.

September might be on course to be warmer than June, but it's also easily going to be wetter than June for vast maj of areas.

Breezy here, we've had a few light showers.
Nearest MetO station, a couple of miles away, at Almondsbury, now only forecasting gusts of 32mph over next few hours.

That'll make a great picture for the 'Nature Pic' thread.
Yeah, as long as it falls into the school grounds, behind our gaff. The damn thing is about 30 feet tall and almost the same wide.

Yeah I think it's the trees driving the broader warning area. It does make sense, especially with wet ground in many areas, much wetter than is typical for late September. Trees could more easily be uprooted.Β
Hmm...if my inconsiderate neighbour 2 doors down, who refuses to severely cut his tree back, could wake up Thurs morn with the monstrosity downed that would make our day at Chez Bris Si's.

Maximum wind gusts of 35mph forecasted here. A yellow wind warning is not justified whatsoever, the exception being in the far north/west of the country.
Around 40mph gusts, for here and they're forecast to be infrequent. Nowt exceptional.

Just hitting me now. Coming down hard!
We passed through it 15 mins ago in the car, coming from Yate thru Iron Acton, Winterbourne. Main road and drains thru Winterbourne, outside the school, were struggling to cope with the monsoon rain.

Have to admit, apart from a few days worth, it has been exceptionally dry since august.
Really?!
Yday eve the Beeb weather guy, Matt Taylor, put up figs of near 100% rainfall, so far, this Sept for most areas. Many areas likely to go past 100% for Sept, by month's end.

14c, raining again, heavy downpours on and off since lunchtime.
1st time the house has felt a little cold, since late April i reck. Admittedly, still have a few of the small windows open though.
Autumn's well and truly arrived here, this week.
