Ch 5 have another of their interesting weather programmes on Saturday at 9pm. This one is entitled 'The Great White Christmas of 81' Dec 1981 was the snowiest December of the twentieth century and this programme should be worth watching
Remember December '81 v well; proper wintry/snowy month.

Late December
"The chance of a colder spell of weather, with hazard such as snow and ice, does increase later in December and into the New Year period."
One could write that every year, as it'll be late December, early January. Of course, there's a chance 3+ weeks out - who writes this stuff for Meto?

What a difference a day makes. Other than large puddles left from yesterday, roads and pavements are dry here today and the sun is out!
And here, in SG.
Grey, damp, cloudy, 6c, really dark at just after midday.
But an improvement on yesterday's deluge.

So much for the cold air not being easily able to be pushed away by the Atlantic… The Atlantic will ALWAYS find a way through, as that’s our default weather pattern. It seems no amount of blocking will prevent it and milder air getting through.
Dont fall for that Every-Winter Pony from the 'other' thread, Josh.
Sometimes it does happen, but more often than not The Atlantic just rolls back in to Blighty. 'We' are, after all, predominately a Maritime climate; nowt's changed on that front.

3c and raining now.
During daylight only just reached 0.5c.
A waste of cold, waste of heating bills. Hopefully the remainder of Winter will be very mild.

Best start to Winter since Nov/Dec 2010
Every coming Winter the resident NW Mod thread 'cheerleaders' whip up their 'followers' into a frenzy about computer model output and the chance of some sleet showers
See above - cue the "Darren Bett's a mildy" comments.

Increasing chances that we'll experience an absolutely pointless cold snap with cold rain or the dreaded wintry mix.
"Best start to Winter since 2010" - absolute bo..ll...ox!!
Bring on 'December 2015', with midnight temps of 15c

Oh look a deep low pressure system. Blizzard to start Winter anyone?
A la Early December '81. Blizzard for a few hours, 6-7 inches of snow dumped, then by the evening temps of 12c saw a rapid thaw.

And be prepared for cold rain I reck (in a few days time) or the dreaded "wintry mix".

This morning's weather typifies why I hate late November.
4c, grey, drizzly, gloomy, dark.

Latest Met update is disappointing. Looking like for us up here a few dry frosty nights then back to cloudy and damp. Do they see all the models before we can ?
They're the Pros.

This 'ill do me.
11c, calm, dry, cloudy with sun poking through.
Increase the sunshine hours and it can stay like this right through to mid-Feb. Then early warmth arrives.
One can live in hope, i guess
