  1. Well, last evening in Lincoln we had several hours of snow - it stopped around 9pm. Then it started a slow thaw but, by the time we got up this morning, this had frozen solid and it was incredibly icy - even the car door was difficult to open. We have had a steady thaw all day so the roads are better now apart from smaller residential ones. It all looks rather mucky now.
  2. Just checked on Google Earth and I am at 74m ASL so perhaps that is why I have snow accumulating and Grimsby, Hull, Boston and Sleaford have rain.
  3. Hi Les Perhaps that is headed our way. I really don't want to drive in what's out there right now. I'm just south of Lincoln on a hill and it has got colder after a late afternoon thaw and snowing hard and accumulating right now.
  4. Has the forecast for Lincs changed in the last couple of hours? We were forecast rain this evening and over night and there was a decided thaw setting in earlier but it's been snowing hard for a while now and all the gaps in the snow created by the kids making snowmen are completely covered up. Way more snow than we had yesterday evening. The milder air seems to have slipped off elsewhere.
  5. Just stuck my head out the back door and there is the familiar "drip, drip, drip" of a thaw and I'm actually on a hill south of Lincoln! Definitely getting milder as the evening goes by. If this freezes overnight, roads will be like an ice rink in the morning. Is this the beginning of a big thaw, do you think?
  6. Well, there's definitely a bit of a thaw going on in Lincoln. Despite a couple of hours of so of heavy snow, my car is only wet not snowy and tyre marks and footprints in the snow are going mushy. Good technical term that - mushy.
  7. Thanks - despite the heavy snow falling, there's a definite thaw setting in now. Hopefully a problem-free drive to work tomorrow then.
  8. In Lincoln it's been snowing hard for the last couple of hours BUT the snow on the roofs and pavements is now beginning to melt and it hadn't done all day. Is it likely to be turning to rain overnight?
  9. Just got in from work and really not had time to read through the threads yet but my initial reaction this morning is that it was nowhere near as bad as was forecast. It's very snowy here but, outside of estate roads, most are clear and there's no problems at all. No schools are closed in the city and Lincoln is carrying on just as normal. Just seen some news and I'm really shocked at how badly London seems to be coping - was it very much worse down there?
  10. Well, last post of the day. Not much doing here in Lincoln. A light covering of snow until about 7pm when it all stopped and nothing doing since. Roads all clear and no problems to report.
  11. It is at the moment. I had been worried about driving to work in the morning but I just drove home and it's fine so hopefully not so bad at 7.30am.
  12. Here in Lincoln it stopped snowing about an hour and a half ago. We have a covering of snow that's not melting so it could still be here in the morning but really nowhere near as bad as was forecast.
  13. I'm about 3 miles south of the city centre and there's not much here either. We are getting showers but it's fairly wet snow and only laying on the grass. The roads are completely clear. Really not a big event...........yet. Guess we may well see more tonight ready for rush hour tomorrow.
  14. Really, not even now? It's snowing quite heavily in Bracebridge Heath at the moment.
  15. Well we had a few brief showers of snow grains to be exact. Bright and sunny now here too - opposite end of the city to you - Bracebridge Heath
  16. Snow stopped a while ago in Lincoln. We have blue skies and sun right now.
  17. I'm in Lincoln and need to go out around 4pm and won't get home until almost 8 - do you think lying snow is likely then? What about 7.30 tomorrow morning? That's what I'm most worried about - getting to work tomorrow. Absolutely love the snow but hate to drive in it despite living in North Scotland for a few years.
  18. Just had a couple of text messages from Cheltenham saying it is snowing heavily there. Here in Lincoln, just clear skies and frosty.
  19. Snow falling on very wet ground in Lincoln but beginning to settle.
