Boring as it sounds get the cold in first and the rest will take care of itself.
My mind wants to know when it’s going to snow but after many past let downs living in the driest part of England it’s time to let go a little and just let what will be happen.
Remember historically the models underestimate blocking and like to show operational runs with our biggest fear of low pressure ploughing through with mild air.
This has a Dec 81 feel about despite the chopping and changing between runs the background seems to be dictating the bigger picture.
I can’t wait to see the exited posts on here from all you guys who are lucky enough to get some snow.
Winter is here let’s enjoy the fun and games!

Wow that’s amazing. Also agree Cambridgeshire had very little snow during the 2010 cold spell.

Just a little pic from '87. And yes it's suspected it was a sting jet event with embedded tornadoes. I saw the destruction E and NE of Ispwich, and exactly as in this photo.
Plus roofs gone, garages smashed, trees down on cars and houses, windows blown through, nearly every commercial greenhouse smashed to smithereens, warehouse roofs off, holiday caravan parks smashed up, flooding, and the power out for days. Just as you see in hurricane aftermath photos in the US.
Don't under estimate a sting jet event. Very hard to predict, and it's good this time round we may get some warning via modern day modelling.

It was very bad, the sound of the wind was like standing next to a motorway. I was just a kid living in Braintree and school was closed. Some of the trees were sheared off halfway up the trunks like something had just twisted them in half. Unbelievable weather event that always stands out in my memory.

The worst flooding I’ve ever seen. The memories have never left my mind, despite only being 6 years of age at the time! I remember going over the River nene on the A1260 (Nene Parkway in Peterborough) on the morning after the monsoonal rain we had the previous day and night, and seeing Orton Mere completely submerged. Never seen it as bad ever since. A truly extreme period of weather. A once in a century event at a conservative take.
I was 23 at the time working in St Ives Cambs on late shift I remember it rained all day and night then on my journey home to Godmanchester there was rivers of water running down the A14 slip road.
Next day Huntingdon was virtually cut off from all sides as the river great Ouse seemed to rise from everywhere. Never seen flooding like that before.

Not my photo but I think this was the strike that scared the living wibble out of us. From reports it struck less than a mile from where we were. @LightningLover
Great strike picture, I was at Normans Bay last week, lovely part of the world.

Argh Lol, Was on holiday at Normans bay East Sussex all last week with cloud and a chilly NE wind.
And of course now back in Cambridgeshire the heat and storms arrive on the Sussex coast.

Having a week on the East Sussex coast, very nice place but could do with a bit of sun

Watching the St Neots storm from my bedroom window with constant thunder and lightning.

Well finally after what seems like months of freezing cold and wet, we have some nice warm and sultry evenings to enjoy the garden that’s growing like crazy.

And the last for us maybe!!! Male the most of it haha.
Talking of which - anyone got an idea on where's tonight's showers are likely to be?! Any decent charts? I've a general feeling that the shower activity is on the decline now but would like to be proven wrong !!
Shame as yesterday’s fax had the winds converging right through E Anglia but it seems to have disappeared from the latest one.
Winds look like they’re going back to NE again so maybe see a few flakes tonight.

Indeed. The heaviest single snowfall I experienced was a NNE which developed a Southerly facing Wash streamer in December 2009. That gave 4-6 inches of widespread snow in Cambridge and the surroundings over 4-6hours
That was a good one, also do you remember the Jan 2003 NNE that left people stranded on the A14 and M11?
Got a pasting from this.
