  1. Mr Data you are a legend for posting these videos! I actually remember this forecast well. Do you have any from the later cold spell of January 2003?
  2. Yes I agree it's horribly mundane. Mind you it did drizzle here earlier, had to sit down with excitement.
  3. I know it has been said, but I can't believe the way the mood has dropped in the model thread. I love cold weather as much as the next person, but I wouldn't call charts 'bad' because they don't show cold. Difference between a weather enthusiast and a snow enthusiast I guess.
  4. Again - one to forget in your location. Not in mine. If you're going to make sweeping statements please at least make it clear that you're referring to your own location.
  5. If you read my post properly, rather than whinging, you would realise that I was in part agreeing with you. No, I have not forgotten how mild it was in November, December, January. But I am saying that in the SOUTH-EAST the last spell has made it a decent winter. For you, I agree, it has been poor. But you need to accept that for some it has been a decent winter, just not for you and some others.
  6. How is 'everybody screaming it's been a brilliant winter'? Come on, just because you haven't had snow don't sulk and try to ruin it for those who have. For *parts* of the south-east this spell has been decent - not exceptional, decent - for others and the north, nothing special. I certainly don't see anyone claiming it has made it a brilliant winter.
  7. "nothing remotely cold on the horizon for the next couple of weeks, and distinctly mild by the looks of it, if the models are to be believed." Bit of an exageration. In fact a huge exageration.
  8. Light snow and freezing rain was forecast yesterday for the east of our region today - I was a little surprised there wasn't more talk about it on here. Feels noticeably less cold here today, remaining ice and snow patches are slowly melting away, nice to go for a run without the fear of breaking my neck! Still feel this winter has more to offer for us down here, maybe no freeze, but I could see a few surprises in late Feb/March. I see the model output thread is descending into the usual mix of bickering/ end of winter/ IMBY posting. It's the one thing that lets this forum down for me, all very child-like. I can understand the frustration of anyone in Scotland and Ireland, for whom it's been a poor winter for cold and snow, but I find it a bit of a head-scratcher when someone is actually jealous of another area getting snow, most bizarre.
  9. Is it too early to mark this cold spell out of 10? Here's my sum-up. Longevity: Well over a week, so 8/10 Depth of cold: some absolutely bitter nights, but generally not particularly severe, 6/10 Snow: Two decent falls, one of 11cms, one of 3cms, plus a couple of days of snow grains, so 7/10 Overall, I'd give this spell a 7/10 for my part of London. Much better than I was expecting this time last month. It's just about saved the winter for me. Interested to see how everyone else rates it...
  10. Would agree, the time for deep, deep cold is in mid-January IMO. That isn't to say you can't get very significant snow in Feb, as we often have, but it will just be without the freezing temperatures.
  11. It's bizarre isn't it. At the end of the day, how many in the model thread predicted last night's snow? Not many. It isn't helped by a few members who, not liking cold weather, seem to revel in raining on everyone else's parade. No pun intended.
  12. 5cms at my parents house in Dollis Hill, north-west London - 2cm more than where I live in Ealing. Seems north-west London really hit the jackpot.
  13. The forecasts I saw all said they wouldn't rule out snow in London, but the HEAVIEST snow to the west of London. I accept there has been some snow to the east, but considering how knife-edge it was for us I think we can cut them some slack.
  14. I hasten to add, I know the Met/BBC got it wrong with regards to the snow in the east Mids, but for our area they were fairly spot on.
  15. Decent night here in Ealing, we were in one of the sweet spots about 10pm, a good half hour of very heavy snow which turned a slight dusting into a decent covering. I'd say about 3cms, less on the pavements and none on the roads. TBH, regardless of all the unnesessary slating of the BBC, they called it fairly well. A few cms in the west of the area, less further east. Still, having a go at the Met Office is the done thing isn't it.
  16. It is moving ssw but to a lesser degree than I thought it would - could yet get quite interesting for London
  17. Still a bit 'meh' in west London, been snowing for an hour or so and a dusting (ish) now
  18. Still fairly light here, big flakes blowing around. Still not expecting much, London will certainly not get 'hammered' as some seem to be predicting. A dusting widely, perhaps a covering in western parts of our region - pretty much what the Beeb have been saying. While I'm at it, let's top slating the BBC for what was a hugely difficult forecast. They nailed the weekend's event, this was a far harder call.
  19. Had to laugh at myself there: stare at lampost, stare at lampost, stare at lampost...a flake!...stare at lampost, stare at lampost. You all know what I'm talking about... Anyway, a few flakes now.
  20. Yamkin, sorry mate but I really don't buy that. I don't want to sound rude but you can be very mis-leading sometimes! Heavy snow...any mention of depths at all? For how long? From when?
