  1. Yeah you're part is doing well mate. Certaily the most favourable location.

Check out my earlier forecast over the next few days. The ones I have done so far hae been suprisingly accurate.

Although in my forecast from last night:

    (1) I sligtly under-estimated how much snow there would be.

    (2) Did'nt forecast to come as far west as it has, granted that here it has been extremely light in nature.

  2. Looking at things this Morning i think this system is now going to Stall giving parts

of the region Light sometimes moderate Snow for most of the Day,This clearing

Northern Areas by about 1600 hrs but perhaps not clearing the south of the region

until about 20.00 hrs this evening.BTW NW forecast on BBC Seem to back this up.

  3. WEATHER FORECAST TODAY: NORTH WEST ENGLAND

A band of light/moderate snowfall will affect southern and eastern parts of the region which may give slight accumulations in places and significantly more on higher ground. This will gradually weaken in intensity during the morning leaving a dry cold day, with temperatures just getting above freezing. This evening and tonight will remain dry and clear, with temperatures belowe freezing leaving most areas with frost and ice.

    NEXT FEW DAYS:

Friday will be mostly dry and cold, again with a hard frost overnight. Into the weekend Saturday could see some wintry flurries fo some, however, these will be light and patchy in nature and should'nt cause too many problems. On Sunday could see a band of rain pass through the region (still uncertain at the moment) which could produce some snow over higher ground with rain and possibly sleet at lower levels.

    And thats your forecast.

  4. Well nothing here in Chorley or Preston, and looks like if it does reach these areas then it won't be more than a dusting. Oh well one day our time will come and everyone who has got it have fun and stay safe

p.s Hot*Snow - where abouts in Lancashire are you?

    Just outide Bolton, Lancashire.

    (and not on high ground!)

*Note recieving some light snowfall although certainly nothing major and no accumulations.

  5. There is a split in the north west of England to the areas taht have/have'nt seen snowfall.

The south and east of the region have faired well - Cheshire, parts of Merseyside, East Lancashire, South Manchester, Higher ground - parts of Cumbria.

Whilst - Some parts of Merseyside, Greater Manchester, Western/central/northern Lancashire, parts of Cumbria have seen either nothing or minimal amounts of snowfall that has'nt brought significant accumulations.

  6. Such a shame the ppn has died out in intesity, granted favourable spots may see some light/moderate snowfall which will be a suprise to many!

By all accounts parts of midland and southern/central England have woken up to several cm's of snow this morning.

When will we get our turn?

  7. Its a real shame this band of ppn could'nt have just edged slightly more northwards (a big ask I know.) It would have gven the north west a taste of what everyone else has had this winter.

For me, and a lot of people it has been a helluva long time since seen even a few inches, which so many others hae had this week.

Yeah we have been quite lucky as we could have very easily missed out and we've still got the rest of Feb to go yet which could potentially be cold and snowy.

Prospects don't look great for the majority of us in our region (again) for significant snowfall in our part of the region - including the weekend.

  8. UPDATE

A system of moderate ppn has reached parts of the region wich will rapidly clear away during the morning, however the main intensity of the band will not really affect many places as the system affects the midlands taking a north easterly trak. Some areas may get a dusting, whilst high ground and pennine districts will inevitably get more.

  9. C'mon guys seriously. Tonights event is most probably a write off. The weekends event will probably end up a write off very soon. Any future events will end up a write off. I am sick and tired of anti-climax, followed by anti-climax. False hope, wishful thinking and totally unrealistic optimism.

Last weekend we all though wed/thurs would be our time. But once again we are going to miss out.

Now we are talking about potential for the weekend. There will be downgrades and we will miss out.

Yes we all know that the south of the region and higher ground have had plenty of snow - but the majority of us here in the north-west have missed out again. I am really starting to get sick and tired of the whole game now - it just is'nt fun any more. To be frank it depressing. Another winter passing by without any more than a dusting to write home about is absolutely pathetic.

  10. What a strange Forecast by Dianne on NW Tonight nothing she said

Or Showed matched the 1830 forecast by the BBC.

No where on Thee BBC forecast showed Rain/Sleet for NW England,Although

Very Marginal on the Coast.Sorry Dianne much as i respect you,I think you

have that Wrong Tonight.Anyway not going to spoil my Little Ramp

ITS GOING TO SNOW :) :)

That is rather interesting - the inconsistency between local and national forecasts has always been particuarly frustrating.

If you are wondering what will happen check my earlier post - only some parts of the north-west will see snowfall this evening and tonight. The majority of us will get nothing again.

  11. MMMmmm looks like i was right ey ? things are defonatly improving all the time for our area and the precip is defo futher north. Wouldnt it be nice for the "snowless" Nw to steal the best of upcoming snow events hey lol.

ps. Still got the juicy thick covering up here with barely any thaw. Be nice to see that topped up by a few cm before the big thaw.

Certainly not expecting much for my area. Ground temps are too high - we have'nt even had a frost during this 'cold spell' and the air temps are too high (1.4 deg.C) So even though I'm not expecting any here, any ppn that would fall would oelt on impact with the surface.

Tonight the midlands is he place to be.

  12. SNOW THIS EVENING AND TONIGHT

A band of heavy/moderate snowfall this evening/overnight potentially giving accumulations of up to 3cm on lower ground, with significantly more over higher ground.

    AREAS AFECTED

Areas to the south and east of the region may be affected.

    Cheshire,

    southern parts of Merseyside,

    south and east Manchester,

    east Lancashire

    Higher ground - pennines

  13. Well, while thursday and friday certainly look interesting, in that the snow level will be somewhere between 0 and 200 metres for the Midlands north, for me it looks like a snow, to rain to snow event, however i am far more interested in the undiscussed sunday snow event, which looks like giving prolonged and widespread snow.

Hey, what is the 'Sunday event?'

    Cold you explain further?

    Cheers.

  14. I must admit after realising the reality that my area was going to fair well early yesterday I went out. By all accounts some areas in the south east and higher ground did recieve constant snowfall for a long time that brought significant accumulations - but it was all over-egged by the media as usual.

The Devon snowfall coverage was hilarious - the reporter was walking through a car park taking about how everything had shut due to 'severe weather' etc - the covering was about 1/2cm max. The mis-reported 'tornado' that was actually a waterspout made me laugh personally.

    Two questions:

(1)What do the Canadians, Scandanavians etc think of our inability to cope with a bit of snow?

    (2) What do people from Oklahoma think of our definition of a tornado?

  15. Just goes to show how tough it is to get snow in the UK these days, charts chop and change all the time right up to the line, so annoying!

Years ago, without all these super computers, I remember if they said snow for some place or other on the Coutryfile forecast for Thurs/Fri of that week it would usually happen, not any more. Its always bitty cold that makes it to our shores, puff, one extra gust of wind in Norway or Italy annd its missed us by 200 miles. :o

And as for the few inches we got yesterday, its a joke, 70 percent of the country only got a duting that melted by this morning.............all the fuss it because LONDON and the home counties got some snow, OMG it snowed in London, big deal!

Never know though, London could see more snow, then all we will hear on the news for the rest of the month will be Weather related. :o

Excellent point, perfectly illustrated. I am so glad you made that point - I have been thinking it all along but had been slightly afraid to say it myself. I was watching an interview with a woman on bbc news and she said (rather confusingly):

"I am from Denmark - this is not snow!"
