  1. I am with you here stratos. I have been here 2 days now and have noticed how quickly people do get carried away with things. As an experienced forecaster I have seen these situations arise so many times and nothing come avail. It is always important to remain cautious. I would love it to snow, but I wont be getting excited until a couple of hours before the event starts and I can see the ppn on the radar.

As far as the even larger teapot is concerned - well yes there is evidence to suggest this. It is not a silly pessemistic term that someone has made up. Winters are'nt as cold as they used to be, and we dont get as much snow as we used too. Oh yeah and Britain is'nt a great place for snow anyway (unless you live in the Scottish mountains) and thats why it generates so much interest and thats why it causes so much chaos.

I am not anti-snow. I hope we get loads of the stuff but its important not to get carried away and people should be realistic in their expectations. Here's tosome good fun over the next few days.

  2. Thought I should re-post my thoughts here too...

We are now on the verge of some of the biggest snowfalls seen in the UK in the last 20 years IMO. Over ramping? I don't think so.

Eastern areas Sunday into Monday could see falls in excess of 10-20cm's, even to lower levels... and if things remain on the right side of marginal overnight monday into tuesday morning these amounts could be exceeded.. especially over high ground and not to mention drifts in a strong Easterly wind!

If thats not enough for you, things starting to come together now and it seems we will experiance a reload with a NE'ly! Hold tight and keep your fingers crossed folks... we are so close to the biggest widespread winter spell since the internet began...

One of the biggest snowfall events in the UK and your banging on about the east!

  3. Cheers mate . Where abouts are you from ? We have had a couple of snow events since 2000 but it is always hardly anything and melted in a couple of hours.

Lancashire, north west England so not expecting much. But certainly dont begrudge those who do get some!

  4. I'm not falling for his comments , they didn't work out at christmas did they :) I'm not to worried about whats to come in that range anyway. We haven't had a decent snow event in leicester for years and years and it looks like monday and tuesday will deliver some decent settled snow. And it will stick around for at least 3 days so plenty of snowman building and sledging to be had. If this downgrades now for monday and tuesday then it will be the biggest let down in history. I just hope were not all sat on here on monday and tuesday looking at +144 charts instead of being at the park with our kids enjoying the weather .

As things stand at the moment I think Leicestershire should do good out of this.

You say you hav'nt ha a decent snow event for 3 years? This suprises me.

I hope it comes your way anyway.
