  1. I sure hope so. The Met Office's local forecast for this region doesn't even mention "thunder" or "thundery", despite the fact that all surrounding region's forecasts do. I know, I am picking holes aren't I
  2. Well, after some short early excitment its just rain here now too. It is only April, you know! EDIT: gone now.
  3. Youre not joking, this is very torrential rain indeed. Good lightning show too, if you get it, you're in for a treat! I have to say I wasn't expecting this.
  4. Wind picked up dramatically, started raining heavily and lightning seen, finally. I think I also saw some CG lightning too.
  5. Distant thunder heard here but as of yet nothing has fallen or been seen. Hurry up please.
  6. Although I don't know if there has been any CG lightning yet, yes there has been loud thunder and torrential rain here which has woken me up!!!! Totally unexpected
  7. It is interesting what the NHC say in their Discussion: "CLOUD TOPS SURROUNDING THE EYE HAVE COOLED CONSIDERABLY DURING THE AFTERNOON AND THE EYE HAS ALSO WARMED AND BECOME MORE DISTINCT IN BOTH VISIBLE AND INFRARED SATELLITE IMAGERY. SEVERAL DISTINCT VORTICES INSIDE THE EYE WERE ALSO NOTED...SIMILAR TO WHAT HAS BEEN SEEN WITH PAST HURRICANES THAT WERE NEAR CATEGORY 5 STRENGTH" I think it will briefly be classified as a Cat 5 for a time early tomorrow morning.
  8. Take a look at the eye on this thing! And it's still strengthening . Looking forward to seeing the next advisory on it...
  9. Yup we definately need the rain in the North West. If you read The Environment Agency's report on the "drought", then it says it has been the driest start since 1929. In Southport I have only recorded 185mm from Jan-May, compared to the average of ~300mm, that's only 60% of what we should have.
  10. The flakes all of a sudden have got enormous here - at least 50p size. However, its falling lighter.
  11. Judging by the latest radar it is moving quite fast so about another 40-50 minutes for the coast.
  12. Its a very slow process, but the snow is starting to stick to pavements and roads. Lovely.
  13. Them readings are from my own weather station, but if you dont have one then Weather Underground I think is quite good for local temps.
  14. Nice temp drop here, from 2.3c at 1.30pm to 0.7c now. Hopefully the snow that has been falling fairly steadily starts to stick soon. Flakes appear to be getting bigger, but like other places the snow is still wet. EDIT: In the process of writing this the snow has got quite heavy and is starting to stick!!!
  15. Wow...-5.8c in Southport Surely last nights low of -7.4 can't be beaten...
  16. -4.5c already here!!:cold: It got down to a record low (for me) of -7.4c last night.
  17. -14.9c :o in Woodford and Freezing Fog?? Can that be right?
  18. Lets see how low Southport goes, my record is -7.0c - but I don't think Ill beat that tonight. More like...-6c perhaps - because the temp here is dropping slower than other coastal places at the moment! Current temp is -3.6c and slowly but gradually falling with clear skies...
  19. Roads are already sheet ice, with a temp of -2c and it slowly decreasing any more snow would be lethal. But it would be good though!
  20. We now have very heavy snowfall, in fact the heaviest so far. A good 10-15cm is now likely. A very narrow line of this snow has now developed through from Blackburn into Preston and Southport. After that, things should get much less snowy.
  21. Snow getting thicker and heavier once again - this snowfall is the most extreme I have ever seen it in Southport. We already have 8-10cm, how much better (or worse now) can it get!! People in Cent S England should be really concerned for tomorrow.
  22. No joke! We are still seeing snow (since 6am this morning in fact) non-stop, and although lighter now, it is causing major problems. I would say around 7cm currently.
  23. I said last night that December's snow will be hard to beat for Southport anyway. I am proved wrong as it has been snowing heavily and constantly here for the last 4 hours, and it looks like on the radar there is way more to come!! Chaos again on the roads here, no gritters once again. There must be around 6-8cm here! Schools and colleges are closing as I speak.
  24. Oh dear, temps rapidly rising it's now 2.4c <_<
  25. Taken on 21st December 2009, of Sussex Rd in Southport. No car could drive on the road, so many cars were stranded and ALL buses in Southport were cancelled. Not one main road was gritted, residents were furious!!
