Wow, incredible ECM for snow lovers!
Monday / Tuesday looks marginal, but at the moment it looks like snow away from the immediate coast.

Looks good for some heavy snow on Tuesday now. I'll be in Durham, hopefully I'll see it in the snow
The GFS looks particularly snowy on Tuesday, with significant falls right down to sea level.

I reckon every time you didn't go to the lakes it rained there too!

I'm also in the Lakes next weekend but I've already missed 3 snow events this year whilst I was over there so I'm used to it now.

Covering of snow here this morning. Where did that come from? I could have sworn there was nothing when I went to bed at 12ish yet the radar looks dry after that!

Insanely heavy snow now with a very rapid accumulation. - never mind 50p flakes, these are £5 notes!
Edit: easing off now, was good while it lasted. Still, 1cm cover after about 2 minutes of heavy snow isn't bad!

Hail and snow showers all afternoon here, but this current shower is all snow with large flakes.

The showers are starting to move NNE->SSW now so the rest of us should be seeing snow soon.

Remind me why anyone thought anywhere in our region apart from about the first 100m along the coast would get anything tonight? N'lies are awful for here. We need an E'ly element. Always do.
The NAE and GFS (maybe the others, I haven't looked) still give us a good chance of snow tomorrow morning as a kink in the isobars on the pressure charts indicates the trough will move onshore, and the precipitation charts support this. By the afternoon I would be a bit worried about the rising temperatures.

I have my eye on tomorrow evening - we could see showers before then, but during the evening a trough is predicted to move in from the coast, and I could see us getting a fair bit from it.

All eyes on later tomorrow and Wednesday now for the next significant snow risk.

It reached -0.5C earlier, and it is now -2C with these snow showers so an ice day could well be on the cards.

Wednesday has potential, but the winds will be N'ly so we could miss the showers, and during the afternoon it will be a bit marginal. After a brief less cold blip at the end of the week there is certainly a decent chance of another cold snap next week as well.
It is amazing that the deepest cold we've had in a long time has arrived in March, hopefully that'll silence anyone who thinks March is too late for proper wintry weather!

Ironically I think it is too cold for large accumulations as any snow which falls is so dry that it just gets blown away again.

Looking at the radar I have been annoyingly close to the heavier stuff today. Luckily the dry slot is filling in now.

We've had a fair number of heavy snow and grauple showers today, but it doesn't look very wintry as the snow has blown off all the rooftops.

The showers come and go really, the last one to hit Tyneside really intensified as it hit land and gave that hailstorm, followed by a quick covering of snow.

Re. those showers I was just using raintoday - there's a decent clump out in the North Sea heading our way.

I think December 2009 wasn't spectacular, we had about 2 inches here, but it came during the run up to Christmas and the temperatures were very low. January 2010 was when nearly a foot of snow accumulated in Newcastle. November and December 2010 were by far the snowiest with several 4-6 inch snowfalls over the period of a week.
This January we had more than half a foot / 15cm, and significant snow fell in all three winter months, so I don't really think we can complain about it. Other than 09/10 and 10/11 it has been one of the better winters in the past two decades for snow, and it might not even be over with some marginal snowfalls possible this week.
I would certainly expect somewhere in the NE quadrant of the UK to get a big fall on Tuesday, whether that ends up being NE England or E Scotland is yet to be seen. The 18z GFS has downgraded the risk for low levels in NE England, but that could easily change again on the 0z. We do still get -10 uppers later in the week so some North Sea snow would be possible if we miss out on the Tuesday event.
