  1. I have put heating on otherwise it's tumble dryer (not good for your clothes) or they just sit around the living room taking up space and stink like a damp dog after two days of trying to dry. They always smell fresher is dried outside and it doesn't cover your living room in clothes for two days either. I do miss the extra space the yard gives now we're moving into the colder months
  2. Had it on and off for about 2 weeks now but it's been on most of the time this week keeping it on a nice 20.5-21.5c cycle whenever we're in the house. Been keeping it a bit warmer than usual as I've been ill so needed to keep warm whilst doing very little recovering! If this place hadn't been heated by now it'd be 14-15c in the warmer spots by now which isn't sufficient unless you're in constant motion.
  3. Easily dropping sub 18c after no heating all day in the living room. Even more so with the lack of sunlight and accompanying heat sapping easterly we've had for days on end now. Central heating is now the norm. Switching to winter coat & gloves is not far off either judging by my cycle home tonight.
  4. After cooking a late post pub dinner it's 19.3c in the living room. 18.2c before the cookfest. Not run the heating tonight although I'm getting the "I'm cold" complaints going on! For me it's ok at the moment - it's just waking up at 4am with half your ice block shoulder out the covers that's less pleasant!
  5. Same here otherwise my feet turn to blocks of ice and take a good half hour to warm up again in bed! The only exception is when the weather is very warm (~24c+). 20.2c in here but we've needed a short burst of heating to take it up that extra degree from 19c. Fine for me but I get ear ache from a certain someone at anything less than 20c :o
  6. Ah glad I'm not the only one with that problem! M'lady is almost always cold it seems and there have been frequent demands for the central heating to go on... We've had the gas fire on but the only really warms the living room so as soon as she heads to the bedroom/bathroom/kitchen then it isn't warm enough. Oh for warm summer weather when these battles don't exist!
  7. 21c is technically 'room temperature' and I find it's about the lowest you can sit still in just a t-shirt in. Move around a bit then you can take ever lowering temps as activity levels increase. That or put more clothes on of course. It's 16.9c in here this morning with no sun to warm it. The hot tea will do for now but the fire will most definitely be put on later!
  8. Now 20.2c in here after having gas fire on miin for 3 hours plus cooking in the kitchen. It's now at it's non-summer default i.e. about as warm as I will artificially heat it (I aim for 20.5-21c). Temps not dropping off as fast tonight (cloud cover) so hopefully it won't be too cold when we get back from the pub.
  9. 16.5c in the living room early this morning (after having the gas fire on a little during evening). Sun heated it back to a better 19.3c this morning but dropped away now sun has moved round. Felt the chill last night with any exposed skin when in bed feeling very cold.
  10. 10.9c so a little milder than average. Nothing special - much like October itself bar the fact I turn another year older!
  11. Then perhaps Greenland is somewhere you should consider moving to? Otherwise you'll have to be content with those things for 'only' half the year.
  12. Ideally a bitterly cold night under crystal clear skies - temps -5c or lower (I'd like -16c like Manchester got last winter!). Then a crystal clear sunny day temps not above -2c/-1c with the only cloud being the odd rogue snow shower. Essentially like early Jan was this year. I can take or leave the snow (although I'd prefer to get more than last winters 4cm!) but just want the clear, sunny skies. I'd happily take the dreaded 2c-7c range so long as it was clear. Just don't like unending cloud off the North Sea!
  13. Warmed a little to 19.3c which is that bit too nippy for sitting around in (unless you wrap up). Still not needed to burn any gas just yet!
  14. Flats are almost always warmer - in same way terraced houses are to a lesser extent. But if you live in a detached house you've got more outside walls and less other warm houses around you- really makes a difference. Mine is detached although built into a hillside so not quite four exposed walls but the forth is still against solid earth and not a neighbours warm house! Insulation is poor as it's an old building and we only have insert double glazing downstairs (not proper stuff). Although no central heating on in ours yet! May run the gas fire for first time on a chilly evening to take the edge off soon I'm thinking though. Sun has warmed it to 19c now - do a bit of cooking, add two bodies and two extra computers running and it'll top it up to 20c no doubt.
  15. After an evening of cooking dinner then going out all evening it's settled on 18.5c in here which is about as low as I like it when sat around. Unfortunately it will drop during the night under clear skies (down to 11.9c out there already) so I'm half thinking of setting the heating clock... I hate being cold in the mornings as my body is always at it's coldest when at its sleepiest (mornings). I really really really haven't missed planning running the heating system for this place... It's so much easier during summer just opening the window a crack when you want some fresh air instead of setting heating timers, radiator tap settings, doors closed to stop rooms getting cold etc... But we're moving away from the comfortable time of year now so best start thinking about it really!
  16. This house now cooling after being around 20.5c for many weeks. Several mostly sunless days, a chilly night and a wind have dragged temps down to 18-19c. That's fine for me after cycling home but it won't be good enough for the missus to sit in all evening. Good job we're down the pub really...
  17. I don't really agree with the option range you've got there (dry and cold can be the same as severe cold winter for example; and where is mild & dry?) but closest match for me would be cold & dry. Mainly dry more than anything which usually means colder in general. Nothing severe though and I think we'll have a fair few milder periods this time round. From a more hopeful point of view (and 'hope' is no doubt what the 'severe cold winter' selectors have gone with!) I'd like a mild winter but with short and sharp cold spells. Keeps the gas bills down but still makes for interesting weather. Dry is easier but we do need some rain...
  18. 16.9c was our low with rain on & off all night. Also some extremely irritating car alarms going off at 10 min intervals at around 2am which was most helpful for my sleep!
  19. Flat lined at 17.7c here - it was prob June it was last still this warm at almost midnight. How I miss the wonderful weather of June...
  20. You should try... my house + the complaining noise coming from my missus + my gas bill.. to find there are a lot better things than a cold winters night! Although saying that I do enjoy a _real_ cold winters night i.e. many degrees below zero. It's just the gass guzzling but boring 2-6c I hate.
  21. Uncomfortable nights are impossible in this house - unless it gets too cold in winter
  22. But it's not been hot today nor sunny so your house surely hasn't warmed up too much? It's only 20-21c in here like normal, the difference being it won't fall to 18c overnight instead holding at about 20c.
  23. 17.7c and feelin muggy. Great not needing a coat against the cold although the rain made it a requirement none the less! I'll keep these mild nights as means I can keep the bathroom window open all night.
  24. As we're into autumn now it's time to open a thread dedicated to a fair few of yous favourite season - winter. What do you expect from the coming winter? What are you hoping for? Lets have a friendly thread to discuss the upcoming season! Kicking off... I hope for a mostly mild winter (to avoid me burning half the North Sea gas reserve!) but with a few short (week or so) sharp (like the glorious sunny sub zero week last Jan) periods mixed in. Would like to avoid endless days around 2c with low cloud and a heat sapping easterly but with nothing wintry in it if poss!
  25. It certainly has started in earnest! The traffic is back in full force along with an accident that grid locked a large area last night canceling my missus' driving lesson, it was dark by 7:30pm so needing lights on from around 6:30pm and the wind knocked over one of my lanky tomato plants breaking a large branch off it. Who needs quiet roads & having your dinner outside in the sun when you can queue in traffic inhaling fumes in the rain and sit in dull artificial light for your tea?
