  1. Still nothing noteworthy here... really need wind to turn more northerly! Precip - and the Notts-Derby-Leic triangle gap - is all moving straight east!
  2. No more snow here yet... Big blob to our WNW which is heading almost straight east. It just needs to go a little SE and we're right in the firing line. Given that the wind should be swinging north soon I'd expect it to do so... that or turn around completely!
  3. A nice covering here in Notts making cycling a bit easier than yesterday (more traction). Radar showing plenty to my north-west which seems to be inching ESE at the moment.
  4. I'm in Notts city centre - and yes looking good for us! But not counting my chickens just yet...
  5. Now play nice - it ain't over till the fat lady sings!
  6. pls continue here: http://forum.netweather.tv/topic/59810-east-anglia-south-east-cold-spell-discussion/
  7. I hear you - around here so far it's been only dustings, lethal ice and freezing cold. All of the pain but little of the gain! Not minded while I've been off work but cycling to/from work is anything but fun at the moment with all this ice. Many layers needed - even more so since I can't get any speed up at all (and so can't get warm); double journey length and the fear of falling off the whole time. Saying that I am looking forward to the snow this week - and the extremeness off it all. But after we're done with snow a thaw would be nice - even if only for a week or so!
  8. Jeez I hope it does snow here - cycling on this ice is just impossible! Especially in the dark evenings - feel glad to make it home uninjured! Snow should give some traction - and something more fun than potential broken bones.
  9. Only way I'd get a day off is if the roads were totally impassable (unlikely in the midlands especially in the city) and my electricity or internet went off - otherwise it's struggle in or, at best, work from home.
  10. A throughly unpleasant cycle to work - lethal streets meaning walking with bike half the way and cycling dead slow the other. Freezing cold to the point the my (gloved) hands went numb. This weather seemed interesting and fun during the holidays but during the working week it's anything but. A decent dump of snow might give some better traction at least though.
  11. Yes its certainly better than being soaked and miserable! But I've already been off the bike once this winter due to black ice and it's ruddy painful - so nice as the scenery will be, I'll be looking at my feet/wheels and taking twice as long to get to work in doing so. Frost, ice days, lying snow and great visibility - yes; compacted ice - no!
  12. Guess the thing is that the midlands is one of the least snow prone areas as we're so far from the sea. Often it's only SWlys that have the power to push heavy frontal precip this far inland - and they're usually too mild for snow unless it bashes into a block of existing cold air. Easterlies can do the job if they're unstable and strong enough - otherwise we're just left with low cloud (which, thank the lord, hasn't been something I've seen to much of this year).
  13. Cold & icy here with most surfaces lethal around the estate I live in. Dread to think how much fun the return to work (on my bike) will be tomorrow - it'll be bad enough anyway going back to work without falling off my bike (again!). Some decent snowfall would at least give some traction - all we've had this winter so far is a light covering that melts and refreezes into this awful ice.
  14. Lets leave the pecking each other out of this thread thanks - back to the models please!
  15. The Trent Valley has always been that bit warmer with snow less likely. Radcliffe does shove out a lot of heat no doubt but not sure it'd stop it from actually snowing in Notts/Derby etc.
  16. Now light rain/sleet washing away the earlier snow. Little precip left heading this way so I think that's it for here for now at least. Oh well nice to see a bit of it anyway!
  17. Chucking it down with snow here - taking time to properly settle as I think temps are a little too high. Still it's falling as proper flakes and now settling properly. Don't envy my dad driving to Manchester and back today though...
  18. Moderate snow here with some heavier bursts. Plenty heading this way - so long as Notts doesn't slide down the gap in precip like usual!
  19. Well it snowed heavily here for an hour or so.. now a lot of slush on top of the lethal icy pavements - lovely! Feels warmer though - the thaw is on the way...
  20. Back from my adventures in the south east where everything is struggling with the snow & ice. Heading north out of London on the train you're treated to a winter wonderland scene around Bedford & Luton with fairly deep snow and everything a shade of white. It rapidly thins out as you hit Kettering area then near enough disappears south of Leicester. Nottingham still has some around but nothing like down south!
  21. Snowing in Notts although I'm not there to enjoy it! Can see big flakes falling via my webcams so looks good.
  22. Welcome to the forum! Glad you've finally got some snow - I've also joined you in finally getting a covering tonight!
  23. A nice although thin covering with another lighter area of snow heading in. It'll look nice but won't be disruptive - perfect for me!
  24. Big proper snowflakes here now in Nottingham city centre - our first proper snowfall of the season!
