    That's just SE trains covering their backsides though more than a forecast. In the past they've adopted a heavily reduced timetable when the chance of snow was about 20% by every model. Didn't arive and they still ran the skeleton service. Clearly the chances are higher now but I wouldn't trust an SE guidance for love nor money. Could come at 3pm or 9pm they put up rubbish anyway

    As usual, nothing to show for another "cold" spell. Still, over in MOD land that'll be brushed off as they get excited about something in 4 days, then 6 days, then 10...

    Where will be worst affected on Friday/Saturday? Hasn't been too bad in the SE today - wind reasonable but nothing compared to elsewhere. Rain not too bad. Trains 95% ok too. Same on Friday or much worse here? And is it a Friday afternoon event or midnight and later?

    Even the TSSA union is out not just Bob Crow's RMT. The TSSA did not go on strike from 1926 to 2010. Couple it with train problems due to the weather and tomorrow is a day to stay in if you can.

    Yep, drag everyone down to the levels of the lowest paid rather than lift up those at the bottom. A nice race to the bottom. They get 26k - how dare they! Put them on 12k. Then let benefits top it up to pay for ridiculous housing costs in the UK so the taxpayer loses out. It's a job where they get abused day in day out living in the most expensive city in Europe. And then cut everyone on more than 12k across the country down to minimum wage. Is that your solution to unemployment?

    It's not tube drivers but station staff. Do keep up. 1000 station staff will be cut. All ticket offices closed. So much more fare avoidance without staff so savings will be wiped out. All those things you could only do at offices like add gold cards and disabled railcards to an oyster card or sort out refunds and use vouchers will go.

    Thames barrier pic is true but it is a designed run off space. No chance of getting close to breaching the second wall and threatening homes. Also further along it overtopped the wall and went to the car park below new build flats though its designed to do so when the barrier shut.

    The Thames - which is fine. I know there's flooding in places and sad for people affected but it is not the massive amounts that were predicted/feared. Which is good and hopefully the coming bands of rain will peter out and give around 10mm like previous ones have.

    To be honest for some in the south east every system in the past week hasn't been that strong and been less than feared. Some heavy showers yes, but generally not more than 10mm of rain a day and non damaging gusts. If there have been heavier bands they last 2 or 3 hours maximum.

    Lucky buggers in the states. Proper winters there. The squall line changes from a thick red line out west until Reading way and then to a tiny slither with mostly yellow and fragmenting as it reaches London. Pretty standard over the last couple of days and nothing there really at all.

    Excellent, thank you. At the moment there's a mass of heavy rain heading up the channel but only a thin band over land. If it pivots up onto land it could make things worse in flooded areas of the South East. If not then that band doesn't look like it'll produce too much?

    Isn't Jaywick the most deprived part of the country? Maybe some are fearful of burglary if they go and a lack of police patrols. A lot of houses look like little more than shacks that could be easy to break into. Horrible situation.

    Unbelievable! Neighbours lightweight plastic chairs and table they left out didn't move! Chair were at 45 degree angle leaning on table. And the rickety old fence is still standing proud. No damage I can see at all from front or rear windows. Did get very windy though.

    If you are taking the train it looks like most are cancelled until 9am and then only a very limited service.

    Just had a nose in the south west thread and a few people saying they havn't had many gusts of note and can't see much about many trees falling. That could mean not much will hit the SE or the damage will be limited?

    I think it is supposed to be worse here in SE England from 6am.

    Not here nope and not that sheltered either. The wind speed at London city airport has topped out at 22mph when I checked. It was louder and stronger one night last week. Still hours to go yet though I believe.

    Some rail companies now have timetables up. Starting about 8am on southeastern with 2 trains an hour to London instead of 6-9 on metro lines. Very unlikely most will fit on that. Southern are around 2 an hour on local lines starting about 9am. That seems to continue all day.

    Pretty much dead quiet here in south London. Can't really hear a thing. Was reasonably loud but nothing special then nothing since 15 minutes ago.

    Quite a few trees near so would have thought I'd be hearing lots of noise but so far nowhere near as loud as a brief storm during the week at about 4am. South London way.
