  1. Not a whistle North of York yet the radar says we should be getting it about now... Ah i didn't check the times on the radar...
  2. That's a great radar thanks. It might even work on the works computers which block just about everything... Still snowing in Strensall maybe 3 or 4 cm from this evening...
  3. Light snow north of York - there seems to be a small patch on the radar in front of the main band. i was beginning to think it would never come!
  4. Blue skies in York... Will the snow reach us? Raintoday seems to be broken at the moment. oh well More time to play Dominion...
  5. just started snowing in Strenny. That's a 21 minute lag time from Vizzy in Malton. Will that be it for today?
  6. Very fine, light snow in Strensall, not settling apart from on the cover from last night. I emailed an early 'happy new year' to someone on the 28th Dec and said said look out for snow on the 14th. He now thinks i'm Paul Hudson.
  7. Snowing nicely in Strensall, laying on my car but not much else. Raintoday radar seems to be broken. It's all over the place.
  8. Absolutely huge halo round the moon. Like a giant eye staring at you!
  9. As we are staying at home this christmas and not driving halfway round the country, my wife wants a nice white christmas. So i'm afraid the troposphere has got no chance. If it doesn't get it's act together soon they'll be hell to pay.
  10. Nothing here at Linton yet. Is it likely to push this far across?
  11. The Model thread is maddening at the moment. People are saying "look at this chart -snowfest T168" forgetting that they were saying the same thing a week ago. I need Cheese-Rice's smiling horse to tell me everthing will be alright and I'll be buried up to my neck by wednesday.
  12. Nothing in Strensall (north of york) and the sky is a murky light grey with no breaks. And the waste pipe from my downstairs washbasin has frozen.
  13. If it's any help the forecasters in the Met Office here told the day crew that we could expect as much as we had last Saturday night. Which will be nice!
  14. When it said "yorks/lincs" do they mean the whole of N Yorks? We've still got about 5cm of lying snow in Strenny and it would be a shame to see it washed away.
  15. I sometimes work at Church Fenton and the aircraft hangar I work in is the coldest place in Northern Europe. The Met Office instruments are rather exposed on the edge of the airfield! But yes it does seem very localised - my drive home this morning went from quite snowy at Linton to less across Shipton then a bit more at Strensall - very odd! The Strensall Snowshield operator must have been asleep at his post.
  16. I'm looking at RainToday and there's a huge finger of red pointed right at York! Will it clear the moors? Probably not... have to wait for saturday night i think.
  17. Thanks very much Terminal Moraine. My mum has a reasonably long back garden which looks onto fields so i think I can site the station so that it's not in a wind shadow. And, as you say, i don't think she'll be collecting and recording figures every day! thanks for the advice. ant
  18. Hi I'm looking to buy some sort of weather station for my mum. She's always interested in what's happening outside. She is completely Computer Phobic so it would need to be something connected to an LCD display. I've seen this one on Ebay and it's in my price range. Does it seem like a good one? Can anyone recommend a better one? I think it would need some sort of anemometer... Apologies if this is the wrong thread but any advice would be great. Thanks ant
  19. MASSIVE flakes just started in Strensall after a pause of about 2 hours. Wish the kids weren't at school as the neighbours laugh at me making a snowman on my own!
  20. The ones on the top right and bottom right are excellent. i might nick them for my desktop if thats ok... i'm very confused by the downgrades for york. Paul Hudson was positive this evening but then said the snow was sheffield/bratford. i'm sure we'll get a bit tomorrow mornig - just not as much as i'd like..
  21. Morning all. Just driven from Strensall where we had just under 5 cm yesterday afternoon and a dusting overnight to Linton on Ouse where there has been nothing! 13 miles by road! Hope we get some more today... what are our chances? i've got very little access to any radar sites here... ant
  22. Went out for a walk with the kids at 1425. Five minutes later it started snowing and its still snowing! Awesome snow too makes excellent snowballs and snowmen. It was windy to start with but seems to have died down with very little loss of intensity. I really wasn't expecting that! happy new year everyone! want more of this even though i've got to drive to work tomorrow morning! ant
  23. lol this sums me up stelmer! the model could go anyways for us in york. i have been in surrey for the last few days with intermittant heavy rain and NO SNOW. though leeds castle had huge piles of slush that hadnt thawed. as always .... waiting on the york snow-shield operators to fall asleep....
  24. Just started snowing at Linton on Ouse - small flakes covering my car in icing sugar... not much wind hopefully it will last a while here.
