NAE 00z showing substantial snow by 1800. GFS precip says no. During tha night here it clouded over and the temp lifted to -4.1 now it has cleared over again and it is -4.9
-
-0.9c falling very quickly. Hoping we see a couple of hours of snow tomorrow.
-
Everything further West AGAIN on this run.
Can I just remind everyone that on Sunday, that warm front was progged to be over the Eastern Midlands up until 24 hours out, then it changed to Western Midlands, then Wales.
As this front meets the strong block, it's going to stall somewhere over Wales. The Met Office warning for Sunday will cover our region tomorrow too. 20cms widely if we get another shift Westwards. Hopefully the SE will get nothing.
Either way, we're gonna get plastered.
Loving the anti - SE angle.

Cloudy here 0.9c

This event has Dec 2010 written all over it for me. I'll be able to see the clouds, smell the snow but it will be 20-30 miles away.

Liking the fact everything has shifted further west (so far) on the 12z. Lets hope for minor adjustments on each run. Might just be our luck that ends up over Ireland!
Would that please residents of Cork?

Sticking my head over the parapet for the first time in this thread so please be gentle.
I've noticed before that charts from previous years have been posted as a comparison to a suggested evolution, but nothing in this current setup.
Is part of the model programming based on historical data and so this could be why they are struggling with the current situation?

whale oil beef, its turned back to snow and its heavy man.

Rain here now. Snow disappearing very quickly.
Breakdown guy turned up to get into gritter.
Decided to use all his training and adopt a tecnical approach.
Tried to crowbar door open but failed.
Asked to borrow wire coathanger to break in which was successful.
I wonder what tools he had in his van......
-
A little bit of sleety stuff now.
I wonder how long a gritter can sit with the engine idling before it runs out of fuel.......
-
Stopped completely now, thawing rapidly.
But gone VERY dark.....
-
Still coming down.
Someone turned up to try and get into the gritter stuck outside, but he brought the wrong key.
-
A guy just came in my shop and left his vehicle running outside.
Unfortunately the vehicle has locked itself and he cant get back in.
The amusing part is that the vehicle is the scourge of snowlovers - A GRITTER. hahahahahahaha.

Very heavy snow restarted. I'm liking the track of the streamers.
-
Snow stopped now. Clearing over. I reckon a quick melt is on the cards too.
Fun while it lasted.

If you live South of Runcorn, then expect an absolute pasting in about 20 minutes.
We are whited out here, virtually 1" down now and still bucketing down.
-
Its been hammering down here now for 20 mins or so, put down over 1 1/2 cms so far. Very unexpected.
-
Frost already formed on the car roof here.

Yes, last winter we faired poorly, very little snow at all. Was the same the winter before too.
Even in the relatively mild winter of 2006/2007 I received around 4 inches of heavy, wet snow in the Feb cold snap- more than I've received in the last 2 years put together! That particular snowy spell (most of which fell in 2 hours) caused absolute chaos around here- caught the gritters by surprise and it was taking about an hour to get from one side of the town to the other in the car!
Indeed CC, any excitement will be tempered by the harsh reality of history.
I shal still watch closely in hope.

Yeah for Eastern parts of NW England. The band looks like being slightly too far South to affect us.
It looks like close but no cigar... AGAIN.
I could be right on the edge of this, bieng 20 miles south of you.
After the waste of space that was last winter, it would be a novelty.

I have to join as I live in the Cheshire Gap.
It's a gap between wintry precipitation.
-
Steady snow here - decent sized flakes too.
-
You've got to laugh at the way the front is splitting to avoid where I live.
