  1. 0.2C. Still snowing and sticking on everything. We've still got snow left in trees from days ago.
  2. Temp risen 1.3C. Feels a lot colder than that. Pressure rising. Does anyone else live in a stone house? We've had no decent warmth or sunshine for many months and just an awful lot of wet. The stone buildings need a good drying out and a warm up. Currently, despite indoor heating, it's like living in an icebox. I've never known the cold penetrate indoors so much. . Smooth surfaces, specially if metal or wood -- even crockery and cutlery, doorknobs --- all feel painfully cold to the touch. Was good to see some sunshine today . Rather weak though and didn't persuade the snowdrops to peep up yet.
  3. There's surely plenty at Longridge -- only 5 miles or so from here, though lower.. Still snowing though not so heavy. Viz very poor, can't see the fells.
  4. About 3 to 4 inch depth here -- of all ages. Snowing mostly lightly this morning. Some drifting, Steadily moderate to heavy in last half hour.. Sticking well. 0.7C One track on public road salted and clear
  5. Nowt falling here yet today. Temp 1.0C. Wind moderate easterly. Dark grey clouds to S and SE. Light grey to N and NW. Lying snow got treacherously packed into ice where well trodden -- otherwise a very gentle thaw...
  6. XC Weather has had another change of mind. Rain thrown out and now blizzards put back for next Saturday. http://xcweather.co.uk/
  7. Been a touch above freezing all day, though washing was freezing on the line at 4pm. Now 0.4C BBC forecast showing a thin tongue of snow briefly pushing into Cheshire late tomorrow when the SE snow moves north Otherwise the Yorkies seem to be keeping it all behind the Pennine barricades. Still possible for the forecast to go pear-shaped and we'll get a share. We'll have no end of media coverage if London grinds to a slippery halt.. Would live to see 10ft drifts all round Parliament.
  8. Well, fancy that! XC Weather has dug around and found some bits of snow for now and then next week.. Even a blizzard next Saturday evening. http://xcweather.co.uk/ Doubt any of it is nailed on.
  9. As yesterday eve. Bits of snow flying about. Coming to nothing so far. Looking blackish over the east though. There's plenty going on in the radar over N.Yorkshire. Is all that coming over here? Salt lorry has (at last) come up to dose our hill roads. Do they know something? http://xcweather.co.uk/ Has mostly taken the snow away and brought back RAIN later in the week.
  10. Why are we having this fine dusty stuff all time? Is it because the air is dry? Not really seen any "proper" snowflakes today
  11. Seems to be pivoting around Anglesey and Snowdonia.
  12. Thinking this wind is a bit brisk. Maybe drifts half an inch high? None of our hill roads have been salted so far this cold spell They must know something or saving money?
  13. Now if this was rain, it WOULD have our name on it and we'd be getting a right drowning.
  14. Well, I'm not near Burnley. It's about 15 miles east of here. Daresay others posting in here are nearer. I suspect Burnley (like us) will have last Sun/ Mon's snow and ice lingering hardly melted, though all main roads clear. Everything falling is sticking as ground is so cold. So much depends on tonight. I'd expect Pennines east of Burnley will get a far fall tonight with some drifting as this snow is very loose and powdery.
  15. You can feel it in the wind, but can't see it. Minus 1.3C
  16. Eh? What's them? Saddleworth speciality? Pic?
  17. For sure that's right. We've hardly got going with winter yet ... 2 weeks takes us just about to Candlemass (2 Feb). For farmers up here, that's midwinter. You are supposed to have half your winter feed for your stock still left.
  18. Nothing special here yet. Just a few dusty bits in your face now and then since late morning. Last night's light snow seems to have blown away. Bleak wind. Temp now minus 1.1C. Pressure falling. This is fun to watch Now you see it -- now you don't. http://xcweather.co.uk/ Perhaps we'll get a fresh lot some time.
  19. Been snowing all evening here, light or very light. Thin covering on top of the partly melted layer which came Sun/ Mon.. Temp 0C. Sharpish wind, picked up now. Pressure falling.
  20. Snowing gently from the east.. 0C Everything's been thinly replastered.
  21. Been indoors about a half hour. It's done a sneaky snow in that time. A light dusting on top of the car. A roar of traffic all afternoon from the SSW, mostly Motorway, 10 miles away. The frontal system / precip is reflecting sound up here. A needling little breeze picking up from the south-east.
  22. What about today? There's cloud invading progressively from the west this morning. Is that precip over NI going to hit us. Snow flurries maybe?
  23. But look. http://www.netweather.tv/index.cgi?action=snow;sess North west deluges as usual this weekend, but put through the chiller.
