I like my snow to be heavy enough in the garden to make a snowman, yet keeps off the roads so they are drivable.
Actually I just like seeing snow falling. It doesn't need to stick, just look nice coming down.
Agree totally Joo. Love seeing falling snow but hate walking on the stuff. V paranoid after falling a few years ago skiing. Let's hope for a nice dusting but nothing too extreme.

I think we have to face facts guys. No snow for Wales in the current outlook. ( sorry - couldn't resist the emoticon)
Maybe next week but haven't we been here before?!! I would love to be proved wrong though!!!!

You will notice, that some posts have been deleted, a request was made yesterday to keep this thread sensible, and model related.
Any further silliness will be deleted.
There are threads in the banter areas, and I have started a banter thread here, where more of a laugh is welcome.
OK, so my latest post won't make any sense. sorry !! Agree totally Jackone - at last! E x

Don't get me wrong, I am totally addicted to this forum and it is much more forgiving and less 'sniffy' than the other 'very sensible and model driven' forums on here. However, since I am really rubbish at reading charts and the like, I would really like to see some more concrete evidence and explanation rather than ' it will snow on tuesday' and 'it is drizzling in Swansea'. Not even a single flake. This week seems to be all cold and sometimes sunny and I can't really see much on the horizon unfortunately - keeping the faith though - however misguided that might be! E x

Snowing heavily here in Cardiff
Only joking
Where are you? Are you all on the model output discussion? Are we resigned to the Adlantic (sic) coming back

True Cerdiff girl now!!
My prediction is:
1. Westerly wins - everybody sad
2. Easterly wins - lots of cold but not a lot of snow , just enough to make life difficult - everybody sad !!!!

It is fact that everyone in the model thread who's having a rant tonight have just been kicked out of their Local for Drunek disorderly the way they're acting anyway, I wouldn't listen to much to what's going on in there atm, Things will change tomorrow, yes mild weather has made an appearace on the models but they suddenly take that as the gospel itself which is ridiculous, yes we should take this into account just like we take cold weather in the balance, all in all I will stick my neck out and say the easterly is still on but mildER weather will have a part to play somewhere in the evolution. And snow is hard to forecast it's like the woman of the World " Does my bum look big in this? No of course not, Woman - Be onest now I need to know, Man - No seriously, Woman - But I think it does, Man - yes ok it does, (woman goes off on one mans ears turn off ) That's Snow for you
Is the ground cold enough for me to settle? Is my thickness right, are the upper air temps on my side today? am i going to have a mild sector today? We say no its not going to snow then Snow goes nuts and were all off work and distruption is rife, We say its certainly going to snow make preparations and the snow doesnt arrive Its the beauty of Welsh Weather
She's not called Mother Nature for nothing you know! And she might just send you to your room for such blatant sexism.

I have to disagree, Cardiff, which is probably east wales as far as you are concerned got measly amounts. Ok so it all froze over and made life miserable for everyone but that really wasn't the point. We want 6 ft drifts like what you get in the mountains of Swansea!! N x

Quite obviously p*ssed I think. No snow this weekend then - lots of northerly wind but no precipitation to go with it I suspect. A few flakes maybe. Poor show!! Charts I have been looking at seem a bit scary towards next weekend though - but a week is a long time in snow-watching. N x

GFS and ECM are computer models that help us predict what weather we will be having
check out
http://www.wetterzen...n/fsavneur.html
And the current charts are showing a 1947/63 forecast for Feb - mega cold and snow with Siberia holidaying in Britain!
Great news for some but also could be scary for a lot too - this could turn out to be extremely severe!
Thanks Andy. I know I've asked you before !! I do know that the charts predict what weather we will be having - it's just the nuances that you committed weather watchers understand that I have problems with. My A level Geography teacher would be turning in his grave ( if he was dead - which he is not!).
-
It's just .
But there's alot of hours for a downgrade/backtrack to occur... which is the only way they can go reallly .
What ECM? where is it? For us chart newbies - what does it mean? Don't keep me in suspense like this!!!!

Seems the meto and BBC are going for an easterly all next week (not the best direction for us to get snow unless an atlantic low comes in from the south west) - weird thing is the models really aren't showing this right now - so - theories -
The Meto/BBC are using a brand new computer model we don't know about!
The Meto/BBC have taken on a new tea boy and allowed him to come up with the forecasts!
The Meto/BBC have sacked a few of their old scientists and taken on some new ones and are now getting forecasts correct!
The Meto/BBC have decided to try other forms of forecasting such as a gypsy reading a crystal ball!
I'm only saying this because as from this week - last wednesday's snow was forecast as a warning five days before it happened and it was a marginal event - this sort of forecasting has never even happened before with the meto in such detail with such confidence - before this they were floundering all over the place so something has changed - and this insistence that we are having an easterly all this week seems very over confident considering the models we can see are not showing this!
Maybe they've borrowed MrMonopoly's pendulum?!!

Hi this is my first ever post on a weather forum. I would like to say that I would just love a bit more snow as long as I can still get to work.
By the way, this is Andy music's girlfriend, so he's in for a shock now, so please go easy on him.
Hi Liza, Croeso.

Pouring with rain here. 2 centigrade. If only it was just a little bit colder
Would still probably been pouring with rain. I have been in the alps at minus something and it still manages to rain!!!
Mr E back. It did rain in the alps once when we were skiing for about an hour. Then we had sleet for about an hour. Then we had blizzard conditions for 36 hours. Just wanted to clarify.
-
Oh dear no messages all day, this thread will surely die.
Hello?
Even Andymusic has gone??
Have we given up?
I'm watchin'. Always watchin'
Keep the faith. I suspect Andy is out with his girlfriend buying a new freezer. In the volvo.
There is no way this winter is over. It's like half time at the football.
Ha - that was Mr E hacking into my account. As far as I'm concerned half time is the good bit in the football.
Don't let this thread die guys. It might be pouring with rain outside but imagine if it was snow....
-
What's going to happen next week is far far from certain. GFS is quite good, UKMO meh and the ECM is a horror show... total pattern reset that would likely end this winter.
Personally I think Feb will be mild and wet.
agree - unfortunately!
-
slight - wasn't expecting much - just what we got - looking towards the next "proper" freezer spell - I think it's just on the horizon!
Where are you getting this from Andy? I can't see anything more than a 'normal winter' in Jan/Feb. But then again I was very surprised that it snowed today where I was!! N x
-
Can't see what all the fuss is about really - seems to me to be in somewhat of a holding pattern - no give or take on either side. Is this a good snow scenario?
-
Temp 4.4C
Dew point 2.4C
Wind E at 14mph.
It's going to be marginal here Tomorrow I think... sleet?
Aargh, s***t, I'd rather have drizzle than s***t.
-
Major snows over the weekend forecasted if the GFS 18z comes off - it pushes the front due over us thursday into friday and then back over us saturday/sunday and then holds the front over wales from then on - snowing continously!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I will believe it when I see it!! Met office for Wed/Thurs doesn't seem to make much sense and forecasts don't back it up. Where can I get this GFS 18z ?? And more to the point - is it free?! And even more to the point - is it right !!!!?
-
metoffice have a crazy warning out for wednesday
Makes no sense! Doesn't agree with their forecast for weather or their forecast for temperature as far as I can see. Am I missing something??!
